You just gotta hang in there while the fediverse gets more users, contribute where you can. I still visit reddit for specific interests that are dead over here but I only lurk, I don't cobtribute back. The fact is that if everyone leaves due to there not being enough users, the fediverse will never grow. From what I can tell it does seem to get more active over timez hang in there.

I lurk as well, they won’t let me contribute if I wanted to.

I definitely miss the niche communities and am mostly happy with what’s happening here. Would love to see it grow so local communities become relevant and active.

Yes there is much less activity than reddit. Yes there are much less bots than reddit.

And yes, you must take time and care to interact more than in reddit, if you want Lemmy / fediverse su succeed.

And yes, on the long run the fediverse will superseed all other corporate owned social media just because.

So, don't complain and be part of it! :)

There are fewer bots ... but only because the bot-mongers don't see Lemmy as a worthwhile target.

If Lemmy started having as many users as Reddit has, the bots would come here as well.

I didn't say there are none... But LESS than reddit I think it's a safe guess.

Per-capita, more on Lemmy… in my observation. Definitely more alt accounts on Lemmy, per-capita. The Lemmy dogpile is a whole phenomenon.

Not-A-Bot community where we name and shame would be great, until it gets overrun

Anyone with .ml just assume is a bot at this point.

True, but it doesn’t make the account a real person either.

What interests you? There's a lot of people here not willing to be the first regular poster somewhere but someone has to do it and others often follow.

I was on reddit for a long time and didn't make as many posts as I have here in 3 years.

People have showed up here on Lemmy reporting having been banned from Reddit (and for bullshit reasons) left and right now-a-days.

It's true Lemmy isn't as active as Reddit, and I definitely miss some Reddit communities I used to be part of. (I wasn't banned. I quit more on a "boycott" basis.) But Lemmy has its own strengths.

I'd recommend using the "new" sort and the "all" filter frequently. It's a good way to find communities. New/all has been most of how I browse Lemmy for a long time now.

I got perma banned from Reddit for linking to epstein files and naming names.

Technically, the ban is justified, because I broke two rules; dox, and sharing content where children are harmed (multiple has (censored) dead victims in the photos)

But honestly, I learned my lesson and won't do it again lol

Top 6 hours is also a pretty good way to browse Lemmy. Enough turnover of links to keep you interested.

Pro tip, just about the worst way to introduce yourself here is to mention you are here because you were banned on reddit.

Same. I moved because of the API debacle in 2023 (my original account was on .world) not because I was asked to leave.

I was proudly banned from Reddit

I was a mod of a top ten sub. I was banned for:

Banning Nazis

Reporting bots

Reporting gooner/csam subs (when the admins did nothing, I reported them directly to the FBI)

I made work for the admins, and they didn’t like it.

Reddit ban you for using VPN!! But I live somewhere where I have to be on VPN all the times

I live somewhere where I have to be on VPN all the times. Is there anyway to circumvent the VPN BAN?

And instantly I already know you're interesting and think for yourself. Because you don't follow the echo chamber like a good little redditor does.

Kudos to you!

Eh, it's the same as anywhere else.

Bans are red flags, that's not the same as a "do not enter" sign. There's accounts on here that create communities no one else posts to, just so they can ban people they argue with in other places. Weaponizing the modlog for people that (for some reason) just blindly believe everything in the modlog.

It's a weird move for OP to say being here isn't a choice. But you can get banned from reddit for all types of shit, some is admirable and some you'd get banned from anywhere for saying.

Welcome, there are a lot of them, it is just a bit slower pace here which you'll have to get used to coming from reddit, not at all bad honestly
