Beware: the Sonic the Hedgehog comics from the Humble Bundle bundle appear to be DRM-tied

This bundle: https://www.humblebundle.com/books/sonic-35th-anniversary-megabundle-idw-books

These #SonicTheHedgehog #ebooks are activated on Neon Ichiban, and they appear to have #DRM because, on the titles' pages, each has the "❌ Downloadable" tag under the title, like in the screenshot attached as an example, and have no other indication of technologies included or otherwise.

Reddit's auto-moderation

Crossposted from https://lemmy.ca/post/66708331

Reddit seems to have introduced sitewide AI moderation bots that are sweeping up users and outright banning them, without warning or explanation, for crimes like including links in their posts. This has started to hit some pretty well-known artists in r/comics.

It's inconsistent and unpredictable - which makes it worse, since you don't know what the rules are. As companies like Reddit give up more and more control to unaccountable machines, this kind of thing is getting more common.

Reddit has always had kind of a strange relationship with contributors and what is often called "self-promotion". On one hand, it wants Content... But it can't seem to decide where it wants the content to come from.

It's nice that we've got alternative spaces like this.

Anyway, have some links:

About patiently waiting for a Switch 2 mod

About patiently waiting for a Switch 2 mod

RE: https://thebrainbin.org/m/random/p/757841

#consolemods #patientgamers #swtich2

Going by memory...

In 2016, the guy behind PS Vita's HENkaku said the console would no longer be moddable. In 2018, he found a new exploit that Sony was never fully able to patch, plus supposedly there are two more exploits someone found but is holding until they might be needed.

Apparently earlier this years, the revised Xbox 360 models finally became moddable.

The PS5 had a same exploit as the PS4 due to the shared base. Same with the PS Vita on later system updates with some PSP games on the PSN.

Also everyone's afraid of anti-consumer Nintendo doing lawfare, so staying low on the radar is understandable.

Recent and recent-ish developments & setbacks should serve as examples that patience is good in such cases.

Also, if one wants to mod the console for legitimate reasons, and not just to be a dirty pirate, do push for consumer-friendly systems, as well as for better laws and culture. Even if that means the Switch 2 ain't getting a mod any time soon, it should be a small price for a better future.

About advices on how to not get banned on switch 2

About advices on how to not get banned on switch 2

RE: https://thebrainbin.org/m/random/p/758579

OP on Reddit went pretty hard on the precautions of his #Switch1 #consolemod, but adding to his questions about the risks if sharing data/carts with the #Switch2:

a) using the same account on a modded and a non-modded console is a risk, as sooner or later the user may make some mistake and tarnish his account

b & c) afaik the Switch cartridges track where they have been inserted, but I have yet to hear Nintendo do anything with the information

d) same as question a, so better to avoid getting the two consoles to communicate / share data.

Iirc, one of the very few ways to get a Vita banned was to use your account on a modded PS3 and the PS3 to get banned. Similarly, Reddit bans spread by both IP and accounts, the accounts tarnishing IPs, and IPs tarnishing accounts that try to connect through them. Two precendents of how the banning technologies may be used, so worth isolating the two consoles as much as possible.

Additionally, like the native tripwires I mentioned in another post, cartridges tracking consoles they've been used on is an useful tool for Nintendo too, if/when they decide to crack down on that.

Metal Family upcoming episodes update

In short, there will be two screenings of episode 7 on June 28th in a local Russian theatre, the first on noon and censored, and the second at 6 pm uncensored. Also the authors are working to ensure new episodes won't take as long to make. Transcription, extracted from Youtube's auto-generated Russian subtitlesВсем авав. Google translation to EnglishHello everyone. Well, we're almost done with episode seven. Finally. Uh... Yes, it's been a long time. Yes, many have gotten tired of waiting and given up. Yes, interest in Metal Family has dropped, and it may never be as high as it was in 2021. But there are still those who patiently wait for new episodes, subscribe to Boost, and buy our merch, supporting us. Thanks to you, we can overcome any difficulties, and we have plenty of them. This episode was a huge struggle. In fact, we haven't quite finished it yet. We're still working on it, and I hope we'll finish it before June 28th. After all, there will be a private screening of episode seven at the Oktyabr Cinema on June 28th. We were inspired by the recent screening of Chuck, so the idea was spontaneous. We'll show the seventh episode and answer your questions. We're sure you'll have plenty. We'll also be selling merch. We've recently released several new items. You can purchase them in our store. The link is in the description. And we'll also be signing autographs, if you still need them, of course. We'll be showing the episode twice: a censored screening at 12:00 PM and an uncensored screening at 6:00 PM. This episode is quite rough and violent, so, as you can imagine, it's best to bring your parents to the first screening. It's important to note that the autograph session will be limited, and you'll need to purchase a separate ticket in addition to the main one. Don't get confused. We'll be present at both screenings. We're happy to answer questions and sign autographs twice, considering how many months of work went into producing the episode. This is an experiment, but perhaps over time it will become a tradition. By the way, we won't have to wait that long for the eighth episode. Firstly, it won't be as long as this one, and it won't be as complex. Secondly, we're constantly working on the problem of waiting too long. We've already hired several background artists to avoid wasting time on rendering ourselves. We've already hired several excellent animators working in animeite. Well, as you can see, even that's not enough. But those are minor details. We're not going to stand still. We'll continue to address the issue of production speed. We might switch to Tumboom, since there are simply more people working there. We might even use it... but for now, it can't handle our requirements. In short, we're working on the issues, and although they certainly get worse every year, we'll get through them. So, we'll see you on June 28th at the Oktyabr Cinema. Thank you all, everyone...

While waiting for a Switch 2 mod, some observations about the system

While waiting for a Switch 2 mod, some observations about the system

Got a #Switch2 recently and so, while the memory is fresh, some observations, a.k.a. potential fail points for #consolemods, or even a potential #plannedobsolescence I noticed.

First, like with the Switch 1, while it's docked, you can't keep the console completely offline. Because of that, I'd suggest connecting to a phone's hotspot, changing the hotspot password afterwards, and connecting if/when needed only.

Second, some peripherals may force you to go online or even update the system online:

  • Some Switch 1 cartridge I tried as soon as I got the console, system update demanded to be able to run the game.
  • Some express SD card I tried just now, system upate demanded.
  • Game key cards require at least some data to be downloaded, despite coming as cartridges, meaning online needs to be tapped again
  • You can't get DLCs without connecting to a Nintendo account (this one expected in this day and age, sadly)

Means to mod a console are too varied to be able to guess which will be for the Switch 2, but so much enforced connectivity feels like a bunch of trip wires just waiting to be triggered. So beware if planning to use the console while waiting for an eventual mod.

FFXII: some tips if fighting the TZA Archeoavises too early

FFXII: some tips if fighting the TZA Archeoavises too early

For some reason, the developers decided these enemies should be even nastier surprises than everything else in the Zertinan Caverns from #FFXII.

Since this early, as soon as you're tasked to go past Giza Plains, you're still weak and lacking in resources no matter how strong you are, it can be a very challenging fight, or if playing casually, potentially impossible until very late.

That being said, there are some ways which can make the battle manageable, from what I tested:

Moving two zones out and back in allow you to reroll these enemies' levels until you get them to a desired point, lowest level being 59 according to the wiki.

As previously said, normal progression may make this fight impossible, so powerleveling is advised. If going too weak, both you will be tickling these bullet sponges, and they will be tickling your characters' bones per bite.

Also about progression, do the mandatory events of Jahara, so you get a guest that has Bubble, which doubles the target's HP. The guest, also having fewer abilities, ends up being more mobile, meaning you can use him as party leader to abuse area transitions (and their auto-saves).

The Archeoavises are also susceptible to Confuse and Blind. The guest spamming Shades of Black will sooner or later trigger blinding spells (as well as doing good damage in-between), or you could have a bow, gun or grenade user equip blinding ammo. The main attacker could use Karkata if you were able to steal from the Trial Mode Flowering Cactoid (rarest steal), the weapon confusing on strike, along with the Hermes Sandals (Bazaar item at this point) for Auto-Haste, to quickly confuse and dish out a lot of damage at the same time.

Further about area transitions, set the battle mode to wait and slowest and lure them to fight by the area's exit, specially useful if they start casting Curse or Dispelga. Curse because one of the debuffs it adds is Disease, which the Serum items are for, but are rare at this point. Dispelga on the other hand, would be because the Archeoavis will be busy casting it while the Karkata attacker goes crazy, and if they dispel you, or the buffs wear off, you can leave the area to recharge and rebuff, while also creating a checkpoint due to auto-save. And if a character gets Disease from Curse, reloading the auto-save if you haven't changed areas since getting debuffed also helps - and enemies don't recover health by moving a single area away (just 2+) or reloading auto-saves where they are accounted for.

Last but not least, and a bit of a general tip, have your healer be a kleptomaniac instead of attacking when not healing or buffing, as the healer doesn't do much damage anyways and you can find the Thief's Cuffs in a nearby area. Vaan or Balthier also have innate Steal, so if you have them as healers, you don't need to waste a second job.

All in all, after the initial scare, it was a fun challenge. =D
