I started collecting CDs a few months back because I got fed up of not owning my music, now I'm looking into refurbished mini pcs to use as a server for it all.
A charity shop nearby sold 10 CDs in mystery packs for the price of one normal cd so my collection grew pretty quick, some of the stuff is shit but some of the CDs were multi disk compilations that have really helped bulk it out.
i personally like buying exactly what I want, if my trash shelf gets too full its time to clean up! if I had the room though I'd totally just buy batches of them wherever I can find
I've started collecting specific things now but at the start I just wanted to build up my library. It's pretty rare to find my favourites even when buying new stuff though. The random packs helped me to find some new songs at least.
Rares are not easy, you need to hunt on eBay, discogs and local stores. I found to 2 rare vinyls the past year, had a big luck.
Ps: discogs is good for cataloging your cd and vinyls.

For books, it is mostly occult or esoteric if non fiction. For fiction I prefer fantasy and urban fantasy , like the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.
I have a thing for gentleman knives, especially those made from particular materials. Böker has recently released one made from meteorite steel which I adore. But since these knives are VERY expensive I can't justify this passion to my wife, so I never started collecting.
Bokers are awesome, I can't afford them sadly. I can't justify dropping $200 plus on a knife. I've been thinking about getting an Opinel just to see what the hype is about. They are very affordable.

Not op, but I always thought this was fun. For any continuous quantity, (eg temperature, humidity, barometric pressure), there's always two points on opposite ends (antipodal points) of earth with the exact same value. Its useless because there's no way to know where these points are, it assumes a perfect sphere, and apparently these quanities aren't exactly always continuous. Its the Borsuk-Ulam theorem from topology and extends to higher dimensions. It can be proven pretty easily on a circle with basic calculus.

I actually have next to no glassware in my home aside from a few beer glasses and such that were gifted to me. Otherwise, I just use the mugs for everything lol.

I get composers, but what about performances? I assume two separate orchestras would play the same piece differently and your experience might be able to pick out the differences.

Vintage watches, pens, physical media (mostly records and blu-rays these days), started getting super into coffee so coffee gear now, probably a lot more I’m forgetting at the moment.
Edit: forgot to add: pottery mugs, kitchen gadgets, whiskey (if that counts), pewter artwork (very slowly, only have 3 pieces right now), I’d like to get more into collecting knives but that’s a bit too much money for me currently.
I’m trying! There are hardly any in the kits, though, so I’ve only got like seven or so of them for now. I don’t know why they have the little guys and other shit cluttering up the boxes, the game is about hammers, and they throw in just a ton of other useless bullshit that they call “models” and “units”for some dumbass reason, it’s fucking stupid.
Books. Slowly working on organizing them by Library of Congress number, but it’s a large collection and a lot of effort. I give fiction and contemporary political nonfiction to little free libraries once I read them, but still have quite a lot.
I don't do it anymore but in my teens I had a little drawer full of finger and toe nails. I bit my nails all the time and my nail beds hurt often. I decided to start collecting the nails and I wasn't gonna collect crap so I stopped biting my nails as much.
The collection is probably still back at my parents house. I am better now at having strong fingernails. I know a good pair of nail clippers is helpful and all but let me tell you that a good 200-something grit sandpaper will make your nails strong.
