Les papillons de jour en danger ? "C'est clairement l'insecte qui a la proportion d'espèces menacées la plus importante dans le Grand-Est"

Cette année, je me suis réjouie de voir beaucoup plus de papillons au printemps que d'habitude. Malheureusement, une bonne année ne va pas inverser la tendance.

Quand j'étais enfant, je connais les noms de plusieurs papillons. Je les ai oublié. Ça n'est plus utile quand on n'en voit plus. Il y avait aussi des papillons de toutes les couleurs. Cette année, j'ai revu un papillon bleu pour la première fois depuis des années.

I have too much scrap wood. I needed a scrap wood bin. So I made a scrap wood bin out of scrap wood to hold my scrap wood.

Scrappiest of scrap wood projects.

The proportions are odd, but it's designed to fit under the landing of the stairs going into the garage. Makes a good use of an otherwise awkward space. Like everything else in the shop, it's on casters to allow for easy movement and cleaning around.

Most of this wood was from the big lifting tower I used to get the dust collector motor into place.

Why is this Western Jackdaw walking around with an open beak?

It is a quite hot day (30 degrees Celsius) for this location. It usually hovers around 25 degrees. The jackdaw was walking about with another jackdaw looking for food, actually pecking some dead insects off of a cars bumper. The other jackdaw did not have its beak open.

Is this a cooling behavior, perhaps similar to when dogs pant?

I got these 5 from someone who trapped them at a local dump. The hour they arrived I started them on panacur because their bellies were angry. And they, understandably, were a little angry too.

It's been three weeks and today was their first trip to the vet. They got all the vaccines and all the tests.

They popped for coccidia, hookworms and roundworms. It's completely expected for spicy kids to come in with at least one parasite. But to have three even after treatment for two of them is rare.

They are now getting treated for all of the above. Tomorrow I'll sanitize their kennel. Three of them are friendly enough for adoption. One of them, the orange one, is double defective with no lower lip and he purrs if you look at him. Two others need a bit more taming.

Once they finish their meds and get their rabies booster they will head out to another foster or rescue so I can free up room for the next batch of spicy kids.

Fix yo damn pets.

This ladybug obligingly held still while I took a stack of focus bracketed images at, apparently, ƒ/3.2 and 1/100 sec according to the EXIF data. (Don’t look at me, I was in Fv mode.) This is hand held, and it’s always equal parts pleasing and mildly suspicious how well Helicon manages to line all the images up afterwards.
