The funny thing is that the USMCA was negotiated by Trump to replace NAFTA during his first term.

and was nearly identical to its predecessor which was signed by clinton with strong bipartisan support from congress. nafta's origins date back to reagan's campaign and his call for a north american free trade zone ~ 1979

Good point, as a Canadian I look forward to ending up with a better deal for us in the end.

God: “It’s ok buddy, I won’t hold this against you. I just wish I had someone to swear to myself for once.”

They are deliberately crashing the economy to allow the fascists to buy up the rest of society and privatize everything

36

Yeah but they have to time it right to pull off what they’re shooing for, like the “slingshot” maneuver for you space movie fans, or the “Shake and Bake” from Talladega Nights, for those of you more at my speed. (NPI)

NAFTA may have helped Canada grow economically but only if we stayed under the thumb of the US and jumped every hoop when asked. Trump just took it up a notch with USMCA and now wants Canada to be completely subservient. It may hurt in the short term but it is time for the US to become 'just another country' and for Canada to continue to pivot away from them in every way.

We're going to need to improve our deep water ports and the rail lines. Especially the rail. Ive heard that Churchill may seen some major expansion.

During his first term, Trump negotiated and heavily praised the USMCA as a superior alternative to the "disastrous" North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which he said had offshored US jobs, among other problems.

It was a slightly tweaked NAFTA with a new name, but he wanted votes from people who were opposed to NAFTA, so we got a lot of political theater.

similarly to whats happening in Iran, except that's amuck worse deal then the one he denigrated.

Is it possible that we just stop trading with the US, can we make that happen?

3

Don't think so. Not in the foreseeable future. But we can start trading with more friction and therefore do more to protect important sectors. The increased friction would increase the need for doing more ourselves, as well as trade with non-US countries.

Don't worry, it has a 16 year cool down so this admin will be long gone before it stops being in effect.

Setting the path in place to blame whoever happens to be in power at that time.

If the fascists are still in power, they'll just push it further back.

5

Yeah but a new administration can just sign it again. Having this long cool down forces it to pass through multiple administrations so it has to be agreed upon long term to end it.

8

Time for another round of grifting. Better warm up those crypto accounts because Daddy Trump needs some new shoes.

"look at me! Look at me!" says lil' donnie for the 17 millionth time.

Kind of like corporate DEI, I think NAFTA was generally bad (well I don't think DEI was bad but it was generally half-assed), but now it's been forced on Mexican & Canadian economies removing it will be worse.

You reached the end
