the Ukrainian people are fighting for their survival...against Ukraine.

what the West calls a democracy, Ukrainians call a nightmare.

And United24, the platform that Western celebrities have used to fundraise for Ukraine, was literally founded by Zelensky. People share its articles as though its news.

It’s not. It’s state propaganda, and they’re not even discreet about it.

That explains the wave of "Nord Publishing" United 24 bots that were ubiquitous on Lemmy a couple of months ago.

Ukraine is being used as a testing ground for NATO’s military-industrial ambitions, its forces deployed to generate combat experience with drones and tactics that can then be shared with other NATO members. This is, in the clearest possible terms, a proxy war, and the proxy is being destroyed.

And these tactics will be turned upon the West's own children and elderly, to press them into conscription for Western business interests, like they have Ukraine's children and elderly.

Of course, if you define Ukraine as its puppet government, controlled by NATO and kept in place by the same Western powers that benefit from every day this war continues, then yes, they want to keep fighting. It is not their children being sent to die. Zelensky’s children live safely outside Ukraine, as do the children of the vast majority of the Rada. The West is determined to fight Russia until the last Ukrainian. And the Ukrainian people, the real Ukraine, the only Ukraine that matters, have made clear that they are no longer willing to be the last Ukrainian.

Far-Right Political Consultant Cerimedo Ran a Bot Farm From Bolivia

On Thursday, Bolivia’s Prosecutor’s Office opened another investigation against far-right Argentine political consultant Fernando Cerimedo for illicit enrichment, a case that adds to a first proceeding against him for attempted femicide.

Previously, Cerimedo was detained Tuesday at the Santa Cruz airport, hours after an armed attack carried out by unidentified assailants against his former partner, attorney Nadia Beller, who was shot at least three times but survived.

La Paz Department Prosecutor Luis Torrez said four raids were carried out at residences Cerimedo occupied in the city.

“Obviously, several documents were collected, more than half a million bolivianos (US$43,402),” as well as dollars and euros, and a mini bot farm, he said.

“We are carrying out simultaneous raids. There is a lot of information and a lot of documentation. Many people named will be summoned,” the prosecutor said.

On Wednesday, Cerimedo’s defense attorneys said the cases against him are part of a “political show” intended to destabilize President Rodrigo Paz. They cited as evidence the connection that attorney Beller had with the Movement for Socialism (MAS), led by former President Evo Morales (2006-2019).

However, Bolivian Vice President Edmand Lara himself has publicly confirmed that Cerimedo was President Paz’s personal adviser, which the Bolivian government denies in those terms.

On Tuesday, presidential spokesman Jose Galvez only acknowledged that Cerimedo was a “close collaborator” of Paz during the 2025 election campaign and that he subsequently continued collaborating on some specific communications matters, without being part of the state structure...

I will take a closer look at the issue once I'm back from vacation. What I found in the server logs 'til yet was not very conclusive, except some errors coming from the Lemmy side (but I can't say if they are the real reason).

Costco Stock Sets Up Amid Medicare Advantage News

Costco stock rose near an early entry buy signal amid news its will sell co-branded Medicare Advantage plans, expanding its array of services.

I'm really disappointed in Costco. The quality of products I use has noticably dropped, they still haven't fixed their chicken CAFO issues of filth and inhumane treatment of birds, Orgain protein powder tested high in lead and other heavy metals, which is still on Costco shelves, and for which Costco is under a class-action lawsuit filing, and now this.

People dependent on SNAP benefits still can't shop online, even though they may be in a food desert, with the only transportation (if mobility isn't an issue) option may be Uber, which is expensive (my nephew's girlfriend pays about $27 for a three-mile ride home from work at 01:00, in a midsize city on the underserved side of town, since my nephew's car was stolen), and delivery/instacart may be the most cost-effective option. But Costco is willing to sell junk, overpriced insurance, which costs all customers and taxpayers more, so line go up. Additionally, the employees seem more stressed. I ran in to a different than normal warehouse after an appointment nearby recently, and the two kids who probably make more than I do, including benefits (if they are still offered at a reasonable price) were surly and careless, almost breaking my eggs, while one of the nicest employees at my regular Costco has been having health concerns, and worries if he can keep his job.

My membership expires at the end of the month. I'll have to research what else is going on and if it's worth the cost of membership, plus a one or two hour ride to my two nearest stores, but I'm down to one share of one stock (because I like their politics, treatment of employees and customers, including offshore employees, and because they offer a good product), and it's not Costco.

If you love Costco like I do, please consider writing the CEO's office, and Board of Directors, and expressing any disappointments, including selling junk insurance to their customers. Thanks for reading this far.

Video shows lightning strike trigger massive explosion in Oklahoma

Two gas tanks exploded at a pipeline facility in Glenpool, Oklahoma, on Monday, Aug. 17, forcing evacuations for surrounding businesses and residences, and a shelter-in-place order at schools.

Video footage captured from a Walmart parking lot and shared online showed thick plumes of black smoke before an explosion caused a huge fireball to erupt into the sky. A piece of a tank can be seen flying through the air.

Virginia regulators weigh plan to spread nearly $1 billion in fuel charges to customers over a decade

... If approved, advocates say the move could soften the immediate impact on customer's electricity prices. However, critics point out that it would leave households to pay for Dominion Energy's fuel costs long after the price spike has faded.

Study Finds 82 Percent of Avocado Oil Rancid or Mixed With Other Oils

Consumer demand is rising for all things avocado, including oil made from the fruit. Avocado oil is a great source of vitamins, minerals and the type of fats associated with reducing the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. But according to new research from food science experts at the University of California, Davis, the vast majority of avocado oil sold in the U.S. is of poor quality, mislabeled or adulterated with other oils.
