You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... morons.

The video adds something extra to it. Cleavon Little's restrained grin is perfect.

I love the dumb fucks who are like "Trump's policies may have completely fucked up our economy and we made more money during Biden's administration but he speaks plainly and doesn't sound like a politician so I still support him."

I sincerely hope these fuck heads lose everything.

A lot of these farms are getting bought up and consolidated under an increasingly rarified group of oligarchs.

And a lot of the lay voters are in it for the culture war shit - hating migrants and bombing Iran and beating China (the industry's biggest buyer).

China is very quietly executing the "Never interrupt your enemy when they are a making a mistake" strategy.

27

That's the tongue in cheek response. But I think they were very happy to buy up enormous amounts of Iowa pork at competitive rates. And I suspect more than a few CCP bureaucrats are incredibly annoyed at how US racism and fear mongering gets in the way of any economic cooperation

4

Doesn’t sound like a politician, sure.

Speaks plainly? Buddy, if everyone around you speaks like him, you’re in a medical ward or something. The meandering insulting no point self contradictory mess that passes for him speaking is definitely not ‘speaking plainly’. People that still support him can rot. I only lament that these farmers will go under, get gobbled by big agriculture and that’s probably not great.

Replying to what you said, what you said only and nothing else. No other context.

That's called having a spine and standing up for what you believe in.

-9

No, to be honest it sounds like brain damage. You have to include context

I'm not one to blame the victim...but when you repeatedly walk back into the pedophile's house, bend over, drop your panties, and loudly proclaim to the world, "Surely I shan't be raped this time!" I start to blame you.

32
lemmy.ca

The reason you don't "blame the victim" in most situations is that victims generally do not bear causal or moral responsibility over their situation. These stupid fucks bear both.

just like with the 1st term, they will still vote for him, because they think it will come through, or that dems will come save them in the end and they get to go back whining about liberals. this time is not likely to happen. without people like mitch, or other old guard GOP that ends taking credit, magat gop are less competent than that.

18

Correction: for some reason they still think Dems running things would be worse! So after 8 years of Clinton & Obama, and 4-years of Biden and them not losing their farms during any of that, they still think Dems would be worse than them actually losing their farms after not quite 2-years of Trump 2.0! They will happily walk right to the poor house saying republicans are “better for the economy,” and keep saying it as any benefits they might get whilst in the poor house are stripped away by said republicans.

10

Promises are cheap.

Who would've thought that a rich NYC, real estate business, playboy wouldn't give a shit about Iowa farmers? Didn't see that coming did you?

Chad Hart, a crop market specialist at Iowa State University, said that 2021 and 2022, the first half of Biden’s term, were “some of the best years U.S. agriculture has seen in terms of net farm income.”

“He tells it the way it is,” said Rehder, who voted for Trump in all three presidential elections.

Ah yes, a foul mouthed liar. Maybe he needs to look at ACTIONS not words. Talk is cheap.

12

Promises are cheap.

same promises they've heard for decades, and seen broken for decades, yet they keep sucking it up because admitting they were wrong is just expecting to much (at least until their farm collapses and their life is in shambles, then they'll release critical videos sobbing about the cruelty of it all)

"He's making life very hard for me and my family... but I support that!"

"Hes making life very hard for me and my family at the moment, but he is also making things even worse for non-whites, so its all okay by me!"

1

Now I don't have to make life hard for my family all by myself.

I stopped drinking so much and gambling because we have no money, but our lives are still s##t thanks to President Trump.

When you're so unwilling to face cognitive dissonance that you're happy you shot yourself in the leg.

“We know Trump well enough to know that he sometimes says things off the top of his head and doesn’t think them through,” Arda Van Regenmorter said at her family’s farm in northwest Iowa. “That statement, to me, is one of those. He cares about us financially.”

Omg, she literally sounds like a romance scam victim. She'll be sending her savings to a guy in Nigeria.

“We’re waiting to see how God has this planned out for us,” Arda said. “We’re not giving up. I truly believe he’ll put someone in our life.”

Religious people are prone to fantasy thinking. They're also prone to being scammed.

Let this go down in the history books as to why you shouldn't worship a head of state as a God.

Oh yeah dude it's fucking nuts. I live in a populated area of Illinois on the Iowa border (about 400k pop in the area). But when you get about 5 miles out of the city in any direction farmland starts.

These farmers sit there taking government subsidizes while bitching about SNAP and welfare. It's the most ridiculous hypocritical shit ever. And they all vote Republican, zero shits who it is.

6

I grew up in a very rural area and that explains most conversations I would have with people in that area.

"Welfare" was for the blahs and people considered The Other; but all the benefits these people got? Well, that was something else, because they were white.

6

However bleak the marketplace may seem, many of the farmers said they aren’t about to turn on Trump.

They'll march off of the cliff with Fox News playing the flute.

8

I don't want to see any more coverage of trump supporters. They are idiots. Humanizing them makes the problem worse. They follow their peer group. The only coverage should be about abandoning trump and conservatism.

7
lemmy.world

Yes, because they'll make more money from the bail outs than they would have otherwise.

7

That gets addressed in the article. They say it doesn’t help because suppliers know they’ve got a payout and all want a piece.

5

Literally betting the farm on an Idiot giving them money. Ironically, while bitching about “deadbeats living off government handouts.”

3

They won’t get bailed out. Their farms will be bought up by conglomerates and private equity at drastically reduced prices.

White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said: “Farmers suffered for years under Joe Biden, who increased the United States’ trade deficit to over $1.2 trillion, raised input costs, and pushed woke DEI agricultural policies." I love that official US policy has become fundamentally not understanding trade deficits and running as far as possible with that lack of understanding. Follow that up with the vague claim of raising costs when the baseless Attack on Iran raised costs by more in a month than four years of Biden. Then finish with the absolutely irrelevant to family farmers woke boogeyman. Are we great yet?

7
sh.itjust.works

pushed woke DEI agricultural policies.

What the fuck is that even supposed to mean? How fucking lazy of these morons that they have to keep recycling this same boogeyman even in areas where it makes zero sense.

10

Farmers suffered for years under Joe Biden

Also - where are all these people that supposedly suffered so much under Biden (and Obama)?

Are they in the room with us right now?

I call bullshit on all their gaslighting horse manure. They keep stating these things as if they are facts and facts that everyone just accepts. They do the same thing with their claims of the "horrible economy" that poor little Pumpkinhead inherited. It's all just complete nonsense; the economy was definitely going in the right direction by the end of the Biden admin.

5

He invited hundreds of farmers and ranchers to the White House in March. Speaking from a balcony, with a gold tractor below him, he assured the gathering that they “once again have a true friend and champion in the Oval Office.”

Ok Mussolini

5

I'm visiting my wife's family in Indiana soon. Can't wait to interact with these fucking chuds.

5

HA HA HA HA, these magats are just the dumbest creatures on earth. My dog figures out I that don't have a treat in my hand faster than these fuckwits.

If Democrats have learned anything hopefully they play fire with fire and screw over these farmers in the future and just force feed them a lie about how it's Trump's fault.

A couple million dollar campaign of billboards, airdropped leaflets and AM radio ad buy-ins about how Trump and GOP caused all their issues.

1

They haven't and they won't. We'll just get more bullshit "it's time to heal as a nation and let this go" and they'll continue all the insane policies because it benefits them personally too.

My shit comes from farms in Cascadia. Could go the rest of my life without that Iowa corn and mistreatment of hogs.

3

Oh come on, you don't want to support people who cook pigs alive because they're too cheap, lazy, and evil to at least give the pigs a quick death? Or people who act like they are the victims whenever there is an attempt at legislation to improve living conditions for the pigs, such as making sure cages are large enough to actually be able to turn around in?

/for the uninitiated, I'm referring to "ventilation shutdown"
