The president is committing war crimes and the FBI is charging the former FBI director over an insta post from a year ago, clearly suggesting impeachment.

lemmy.world

seems like a direct violation of his first amendment rights.

unless he comes out and says what it means, it's subjective art that is up to interpretation.

31

true but even if you say “i think x should die” you’re still within your rights. none of “thinking” is actionable.

7
lemmy.zip

So the DOJ is hoping that nobody on the jury knows that 86 means to give someone the bum's rush, not to kill them.

Even then, if it were a threat, which it isn't, it's in no way actionable.

21
lemmy.today

This will never reach the jury. There won't even be a Day 2. The judge will toss this immediately.

13

This time, yes. But eventually, they're going to get a MAGA judge, and someone will go to political prison. That will set a precedent.

4

From the headline, I was imagining that he had used broken seashells to physically threaten Trump.

3

I was thinking the exact same thing

14
lemmy.today

So how did society evolve to replace toilet paper with three seashells - and they skip right over the bidet?

5

Yes, but it is intended as harassment, not "justice".

He still needs a lawyer, he can't just ignore it.

64

If nothing else than for the fact that Trump and friends made public statements condemning him. Can't really have an impartial jury after that

14

Absolutely, it's obviously a desperation Hail Mary play, but not before Comey spends several thousand dollars on lawyers, after spending a whole lot to defend himself the last time.

Perhaps there is a family strategy at play. His daughter was fired as a Federal prosecutor, after working on high profile cases like Epstein. She is now sueing the DoJ, and will probably win, so maybe she can use some of that government money to cover her Dad's legal bills.

He should also sue for malicious prosecution.

jfc, it took me wayyyyy to long to figure it was just like.. "kick out '47".

I thought it was some crazy complicated code. No. Just 86.

Obinicereply

For those of us out of the loop, why would 8647 mean "Kick out Trump?"

Nice message though, shame it never happened I suppose :-(

8
lemmy.world

It took like... FAR more effort than it should have for me to get it.

86, slang, as in something you might tell your buddies like: "Oh I they 86'd from the bar last night because they were wasted"

86, as in, getting kicked out. See: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=86

Then, "47", as in, the 47th president.

However, its only now I'm learning about its use to refer to a grave. I've never heard that before. I've only heard the usage as a verb/ adverb "to get 86'd"

12
piefed.zip

Ah, I thought 47 as in agent 47 so it was suggesting shooting trump or something.

3

47 does not mean "a grave," that's just a MAGA lie to try to inject some measure of rationalization for this absurd and malicious persecution.

Not only should the judge kick this out, they should sanction the prosecutor who charged it.

The cowardly Trump lawyers will keep bringing this bullshit to court, just to keep their paycheck, until judges start slapping them down hard with real consequences - investigations, sanctions, contempt charges, complaints to the bar, disbarment, etc.

When they realize that they could actually lose their freedom and/or livelihoods by following orders, maybe they'll start either defying those orders, or quitting.

1

First they came for…

Aww fuck it; they’re coming for anyone speaking ill of the orange fat fucking turd shitstain now.

And I stand by that assessment.

There’s an old saying about grand juries that also applies to a great many judges: They would indict a ham sandwich if the DA asked them to.

21
lemmy.zip

There are enough corrupt MAGA judges that, if they try long enough, a case will land with one.

4

Like Trump's Insurrection case landing with Jack Smith, and the Stolen Documents case with Cannon.

2

American judges don't need to have any actual knowledge of the law, they just have to get the job.

4

Wow, distraction time again, since this happened more than a year ago.

  • "I'm not a pedophile"
  • "My beautiful ballroom"
  • Convicted rapist
  • Mentioned over a thousand times in the released Epstein files. I bet none of us are
20

So glad these clowns took the high road and didn't push to prosecute a fucking insurrection. So glad the FBI was complicit in these honey pots with epstein and that they didn't push to prosecute or leak anything while the orange clown was running for POTUS.

Really, top tier work sticking to your principles at the cost of our fragile democracy.

To me, this is the guy that did a dirty to Hillary a week before her election with trump, but now he's trump's enemy?

13

He "seemed" to pretty quickly regret whatever role he might have played in trump winning. Comey was always trying to maintain a low profile after trump got sworn in and didn't really try to buddy up to him or take advantage of it like one would expect.

10

8647 should become a popular T-shirt. Pretty hard to convict one person for something that is widespread in the popular culture.

I have an 86 45 shirt I used to wear during the first term. When the comey bullshit first hit the news, my father called me and told me how I shouldn’t wear violent messages, told me that I’d better watch my back if I wore something like that again. I hung up and ordered an 86 47 shirt. Wearing it today in fact.

14

It's already an incredibly popular sign at every No Kings protest or just random local protests in general.

Even if it was just Comey who did it, this doesn't constitute a direct or actionable threat. 86 is kitchen jargon to get rid of something, and one interpretation of that could be to kill, but another could be to get rid of him using the legal channels already in place (impeachment, invoking 25th amendment, etc.).

This indictment has no legs and will get tossed out before any competent judge.

Even if it wasn't, it's like the most open and shut case for innocence. All he has to say is "I thought it meant that Trump should be impeached."

Obviously it would be super worrisome if we even get to that stage, but this is retarded and such a waste of time.

2

Even if it ment he should be killed. That standard would be applied right back to trump. Trump has called for far worse explicitly violent things to happen to others. The president isn't above the law. And I hate Comey. Dude is a racist and spearheaded many FBI task forces that attacked minorities and left wing communities. But the 8647 narrative is so laughable.

1

"86" just means to toss them out of the establishment (like restaurant or whitehouse). If it was "187 47" then there might be something to bite into, otherwise it's just a nothing burger only existing for the further distraction from the trump/epstein files and the realization that your dear leader is nothing more than a self-serving pedophile.

I'm no expert but wasn't he just following the law? As i remember correctly some FBI field office fucked up and they found new evidence to be analysed that has been disapeared, draging the whole process. He had no other choice than to inform the public that the investigation against Hillary was reopened.

I think it was a discretionary move, and an unusual one at that. Normally, the FBI does not comment on pending investigations of public officers at all. This is doubly the case near an election, to avoid the appearance of favoritism and impropriety.

In 2016, rumor was that the (allegedly highly pro-Trump) Manhattan office of the FBI was going to announce that the email investigation had been reopened. It would have been for political reasons, but that seemed to have been part of the calculus.

Comey then decided to come out and make the statement himself, making the Manhattan office's parallel move redundant. At the time, it was thought that he (a) believed that Clinton would win, anyway, and (b) thought the move would give him credentials for future office when the Republicans were back in power.

12
lemmy.world

And they’re only getting to this now because they were spending time going after all of those rednecks with the lifelike “Biden tied up in the back of my truck” tailgate stickers, right?

9
lemmy.world

No? You’re allowed to do that from a legal perspective, if everyone hates you or you lose your job or something that’s just social repercussions but the federal government isn’t pursuing legal charges over it.

3
lemmy.world

Seems like an overt threat to kidnap a President, certainly more overt than four fucking numbers.

6

I’ve seen that, plus a couple bumper stickers saying “FUCK Joe and the Hoe” where FUCK is spelled out jn the silhouette of rifles and handguns.

3

after all this time comey is what led him to the 1st term, and the 2nd term, because helped energized the R base by posting "false" allegations of investigation against her. i dont think he will get sympathy from dems.

In the US, the government cannot use an administrative warrant to enforce a Criminal law

1

Man I hope so, but I’m guessing they’ll have to wait until he’s out of office first for “reasons”.
