Knowledge is knowing Pedo etymologically means child.

Wisdom is not putting it in your business name...

Depeds where the photo was taken, not in all countries people read "pedo" and get allarmed, for example the Italian for paediatrician is "pediatra" and some other words contain "pedo" too, so it's chill

As a podophile, I can understand not wanting to invite confusion when presenting yourself to the world.

Just a little fact for who is curious

For who didn't go to school (or never cracked open a dictionary)

I just want to say that our language use has now been so poisoned by a child predator being called "pedophiles" because "pedo" is greek for child that we attribute just the word to a child predator. IMO pedophile is a bad word because there is zero love involved, they are child predators.

Any root related to sex or sexuality has been perverted in English, or at least American English.

Just saying Homo means homosexual, trans means transexual, bi means bisexual, poly means polyamorous, and to MAGA, the word pronoun is more triggering than a swastika.

9

If someone claims to not have any pronouns, always refer to them by their name.

No, "Hi Jeff, how was your day? Did you pick up your package?"

It's, "Hi Jeff, how was Jeff's day? Did Jeff pick up Jeff's package?"

If you don't know their name, make up a descriptive one, be creative!

..? paraphilias are usually sexual in nature, not love based. “pedophile” is the right word for the act of being sexually attracted to children.

Bibliophile means someone who loves/likes books. I'm guessing that's their point. That "phile" has been corrupted by sexual connotations.

1
pawb.social

has it though? the -phile suffix isn’t what designates it as sexual. it’s being considered a paraphilia.

1

Sure, but I guess their point stands. Why use pedophile for the paraphilia, instead of for someone who really likes the best for kids.

1

You could try reclaiming the word pedophile & explain to everyone you love children.

2

Languages evolve in weird ways. Pedophile comes from "pedo" child and "phile" for love. It could just be a mother or father, someone who loves children. But, it has been used to describe people who love children, but in the wrong way. Similarly, homophobe has been used for people who hate gays, but the "phobe" part is about fear not hate. Also, "homo" isn't necessarily homosexual, it could be homogeniety. Homophobes could be people who are afraid of people of their own race, but instead we've decided it's the term to use for people who hate or are angry at homosexuality.

So a pedophile is somebody who loves children, in a good wholesome way, like kindergarten teachers we have fond memories of.

Pedo predators are the bad people who belong in prison.

Ok but seriously "-phile" implies a CRAZED over-the-top unhealthy fixation with something.

Bibliophile? That's great that you love reading books but you probably should find some balance in your life and get out into the world more.

Cinephile? That's great that you enjoy all things cinema, but you should probably find some balance in your life and get out into the world more.

Etc 😄

Reminds me of the word "fan" which sounds mild when someone describes themselves as a fan of something, but it's short for fanatic!

It's a more inclusive term because "child predator" and "child rapist" all require some verifiable action on the person's part. Is a person who is sexually attracted to children and just looks at like AI generated CSM not also a pedophile, despite not actually directly harming children?

Include Robert F-up Kennedy, too, since this is a CDC (children's dental center)

I mean, I can see what they were going for here, sure... But this probably had to have - what - likev a half dozen or so (allegedly functioning) adults review all of this, likely discuss it amongst themselves to boot... Anyway, all of that and still - yadda yadda yadda - we make it through all of that without a single motherfucker being like, "So, ya don't think the name will attract any... undesirable elements for a care center or anything like that?"

The worst naming decision since Mole Station Nursery got a web domain with no hyphens.

11

"Pedo Planet" sounds like the name of some CSAM distributor you can find on the dark web or similar place. Giving that name to your dentistry will guarantee that some people will try to investigate your business.

I hate how everyone mispronounces the word. We say Peed-iatrician not ped-iatrician so it is not peh-dophile but peed-ophile.

For someone who walks by foot, they are called peh-destrians, not Pee-destrians.

So, do you have a child fetish or a foot fetish? Peed or Ped will reveal all.

6

It's not "everyone"... maybe just locally to you?

But here it's "peed" for child and "pehd" for foot, in every word I can think of right now at least.

Yes but it's the same thing because some countries just have letters missing as usual so Pedro = paedo

Edit: you know what, I'm going to keep it!

Anyway isn't it weird to have the same doctor from age 0 to 18 years old? About age 15 is when kids get uncomfortable going to their pediatrician aka "baby doctor". Ages 15 to 18 should transition to mainstream primary care providers.

1

I think dentistry is different from general physician things. Typically, a dentist can treat anyone of any age.
