I knew the name from somewhere, and it turns out they make sports equipment. Their website features baseball gloves in "watermelon" and "cotton candy" designs.
You've got me thinking about Pride and Prejudice and how Darcy's flavor of misogyny could be interpreted as hatred of patriarchal limitations on the social class "women" rather than a hatred of what women actually are. That is, he hates the behavior women act out as part of a performance they've been forced into, but he doesn't fully think through the concept of systemic oppression because he has no educational background to support that level of introspection, and so he's left blaming women. I'm sure there's probably quite a lot of writing on that angle already, but it's the first time it's ever occurred to me.
not sure which part is confusing you, but i'd be happy to explain.
trans-inclusive radical misogyny would be a tongue in cheek term made up for our guys particular unusual views around gender. he clearly hates women, and doesn't trust them in any positions of authority, but this misogyny extends equally to trans women rather than trans men. usually, these days, this kind of misogyny would be paired with a hatred, fear, and denial of the identities of trans people.
blursed is a portmanteau of "blessed" and "cursed". it is essentially a way of saying something has both good and bad elements, usually ones which contrast in a surprising way.
terf is an acronym that stands for "trans exclusive radical feminism", it is essentially a group of people who make a huge deal out of policing others gender identity and expression, especially those of trans women, under the pretense of caring about women. they have some roots in the 'radical feminism' of decades ago, but nowadays align much more strongly with the religious right, as hating trans people is their sole or primary political interest.
Low-tier rage-bait. It confused me more than it angered me.
Next time, try writing your distasteful replies in a more comprehensible way. I partially understood what you were striving for; however, rage-bait should be easier to read, so that the reader can know what exactly to get mad at.
Alas, you still managed to waste the reader's time, which is why you get a 3/10 rating. Thanksn't.
Amazing. On the surface everything I read is bigotry and disdain, but I can't help liking the guy. At the very least he seems to have the consistency to choose his very own flavor of bigotry.
Not humor though; as far as I understand OOP he's 100% serious. Maybe one of those people that are kinda half aware that they're being an asshole just for conversation.
He sounds pretty autistic, and I mean that somewhat affectionately and not at all as an insult. His manner of thinking feels personally familiar to me.
Say we lived in a society that let dogs vote. You wouldn't have to hate dogs to be real about the fact that they're not our intellectual equals and to be frustrated with a system that gives them decision power that affects everyone in society. And you'd be even more frustrated when people around you say you're a bad person for being dog-phobic.
I think that's the internal world he's living in, based on a series of false premises that he genuinely believes to be true. I think that if these false facts were corrected then his conclusions would naturally improve. It's how it worked for me.
If the story is true, and my guess is that is and based in a Spanish speaking country, I think I kinda love the guy. Like a living Wholesome Redneck meme.
Honestly, having worked in kitchens, this is sorta just how chefs are. You really need an oversized ego to run a kitchen well, and you have to be a little crazy to pull it off. They're somehow either the best or worst people in the world, and sometimes you get a Guy like OP's who is both simultaneously.
I don't know the details, so I could be out of line, but you sometimes do have to force severe anorexia patients to eat. you can straight up die from it. and once you're anorexic for long enough, your body stops feeling hungry at appropriate times, so you have to make yourself eat X number of calories on a schedule for a few months during refeeding.
t. recovered anorexic who narrowly avoided inpatient.
Recovered anorexic who did inpatient: 100% + your body will straight up reject food at a certain point. The only way to recover is literally to force feed yourself even if you throw it up, you basically reteach your body how much it needs to consume
i was also told that milk consumption helps tremendously because it goes down easily, less chance of throwing it up, is digested rather well, and has a lot of calories.
Cant say since I fucking hate milk lol. The staff did have meal suppliment drinks on hand for us. But after the initial not dying of an eating disorder calories wernt the importaint part, it was getting us to be able to eat "fear" foods without a breakdown. We had actual nutritionists there that actually broke down and taught us how food reacts in your body and actual science of needing energy from food
I loved the staff there and my group but unfortunately the staff was temporary due to covid. I learn from a friend the place went back too being "therapist bullies you for being mentally ill and then your released being more scared of sugar" :'(
i'd say 90% of that is going down easily, it's not got anywhere near the calories of a slice of bread and i mean yeah it's easy to digest because it's largely just sugar water with some protein and fat.
i would imagine one of the ideal things to force down is just peanut butter, that's pure fat/protein/carb paste and a spoonful of it is more calories and nutrients than many many glasses of milk, and because so little of it is needed that means there's less to be felt in the stomach.
damn this is gold. that guy's a genius. he might have weird views but at least they're consistent and well thought-through (edit: except the "women are all stupid" part).
i also really cackled at the "damn, cheese, gender, what else do they deny themselves?" as if a gender is something you're enjoying. really brightens my day that some people see it that way so instinctively.
I enjoy some of his work, but the guy himself is always just being an asshole to somebody, and not in like a fun Blackadder way. It's just mean and unpleasant.
I remember watching a scene by scene comparison between the UK and US versions of the Office.
The US version felt a lot more lighthearted, like everyone was having a bit of a laugh, but it was all in good fun. The UK version was almost painful to watch, it really felt like watching workplace bullying.
And Gervais was a big part of that, every scene he was in just wasn't funny to watch.
If you want to torture yourself, go watch their 2022 special "SuperNature". Here's the trailer where they explain to the audience when to laugh.

I mean it still sounds pretty toxic to me. But somehow, I think i could manage to bear it, especially after realising he kind of accepts people for who they are?
Yeah, I'd call him something along the lines of a really hateful good person? Not enough information to make that call but at least that's the impression I got
I don't think so because he seems jealous of the bisexual person. I think for him it would be better to have a male partner, since they're so much more competent, but that he unfortunately only finds himself attracted to women.
he unfortunately only finds himself attracted to women
I don't know many straight guys who actually think that, yet it do know multiple gay men who are low-key misogynists and really glad they're not into women. I feel like "Not Gay Name" is a younger version of a gay man i know, who almost got married to a woman who eventually found out he was cheating just not with girls.
I'd go in on that pool. None of his reactions exude disgust or distaste - more just an internal logic of possible inconveniences, compromises, or difficulties for those that are gay - such as not being seen as attractive by other gays, or discrimination/harassment.
Definitely seems like he's thought it through and that these could be his own counterarguments for coming out that he came up with.
TBH I think misogyny is much more deeply rooted in society than transphobia.
And here's the controversial take that'll bring me a lot of hate: the root of transness itself is somewhere between misogyny and misandry. Our generation can't defeat that, but we can target transphobia and hope that our children will come for misogyny and misandry 💪💪💪
the root of transness itself is somewhere between misogyny and misandry
That is the worst possible way you could say that. Even if you think people embracing gender norms for euphoria unintentionally reinforces harmful divisions, that isn't something inherent to transness itself. We can have gender without mistreating people for it; it's just an ongoing struggle to minimize mistreating people.
So are people too dumb to realize this is fake? Or too desperate to believe that hateful people, deep down, have a streak of tolerance?
Cuz this is some clearly made up nonsense that everyone is talking about as if it were true.
Here, let me tell you about my MAGA coworker that marches for LGBT and immigrant rights. As it gets more attention, I'll post more and more stories about him, each more embellished and unbelievable than the last. Like an overly excited child who keeps going "And then! And then! And then!" because it seems to keep giving him attention.
even if its fake its damn entertaining. And its a nice reminder that even if you don't understand someone's beliefs you should still treat them with decency.
Ah yes, trans inclusionary radical misogynist, the TIRM.
His battle with Rowling will be legendary
Honestly, I don't know if it would be productive but I think it would be a horrid afternoon for Rowling so I would absolutely support this.
No, I don't think it would be productive in the least, but it would be hysterical and worth eating popcorn to!
Please make it happen. OOP, make him social media literate and translate everything to English!
I would love to see that.
I'm imagining Guy has a heavy Boston accent.
Who's that
I knew the name from somewhere, and it turns out they make sports equipment. Their website features baseball gloves in "watermelon" and "cotton candy" designs.
Awesome, hope [email protected] can figure out how that relates to the conversation above.
Well I don't know who Rawlings is
So, where can I watch this series?
"The Guy" is as the uncle of Philomena Cunk. The Guy on...
Oh yeah, pretty close.
If we must have rude people, I want more of that guy among them.
We must have rude people!
I love trans-inclusive radical misogyny. it's so blursed. imagine if we had this instead of terfs.

Yes, there are unfortunately plenty of stupid, fascism adjacent assholes out there.
You're welcome to fuck off and die.

Fascist really is your favourite word, isn't it?

the guy needs to sit down with an equally autistic queer person/ally and just spend 3 days straight hashing it out.
If the story is true, and my guess is that is and based in a Spanish speaking country, I think I kinda love the guy. Like a living Wholesome Redneck meme.

Couldn't it also be that the guy exists, but the demand for stories about him is larger than him, so OOP chose to cater to that demand?
I like the "accidentally scared a 17yo out of an eating disorder" though, you can't make that shit up.
well actually, that's what they tried to do back when my parents were in school. they would force-feed them if they didn't eat up. it was disgusting.

"pick a fucking struggle" Is now my favorite thing
Being a guy sucks, being a girl sucks. You don't get to opt out! Life must also be shit for you!
It's this guy running for political office? Is he going to start a religion?
No shit I'd be OK with conservatives electing guys like this instead of pedo rapists narcissists who sell their souls for a quick buck.
This guy has some similar energy to Skweezy Jibbs
What a fascinating specimen... I wish we had more.
I hope the updates keep coming. We need to study this goober.
Ricky Gervais needs to find this Guy for a new season of An Idiot Abroad.
What Ricky Gervais actually needs to do is go and die in a fire...
what did he do? (i actually don't know)
Mostly that he's a transphobe, he's also one of those tedious "free speech absolutists", and I've personally always just found him annoying
oh alright, thxx
He's also just not funny, which is a problem for a comedian.
He's so unfunny he just sucks the humour out of any scene he's in.
I enjoy some of his work, but the guy himself is always just being an asshole to somebody, and not in like a fun Blackadder way. It's just mean and unpleasant.

The rare case of two wrongs making a right
I call it trans-inclusive radical misogyny, as it's basically the inverse of being a terf.
Bigoted but tolerant?
...what on Earth did I just read?
Is there a pool going on whether "Not Gay Name" is actually gay too? He sounds so closeted, it'd be easy money.
I don't think so because he seems jealous of the bisexual person. I think for him it would be better to have a male partner, since they're so much more competent, but that he unfortunately only finds himself attracted to women.
