I didn't realize he had to sit across from empty seats, that's fucking glorious

badatbeing.social

This pic is cropped so you can't see the empty lawn just passed the people by the fence they couldn't see over.

Edit - Here is newsweeks slightly less cropped version and all the empty space is clearly visible.

Edit 2 - Here is a NYT photo that really shows how few people really showed up.

Especially since those troops are representing the Vietnam War. You know, the know he dodged the draft for.

There are bootloads of Things you can blame Trump for, but dodging the draft for such an unnecessary stupid war is something everyone remotely intelligent person would have done if capable

8

It's not only about that he dodged it, but the fact that he now has this stupid parade after dodging (and still not admitting that he was only able to dodge on a falsified doctor's note that he got because he comes from a rich family). Either you think the military is stupid, then dodging the draft makes sense, but the parade doesn't or the other way around. He's just doing both which is hypocritical. Not surprising though

18

The people I rate highest were those who openly said they weren't going for moral reasons. Muhammed Ali couldn't fight for years because he had religious reasons the government refused to acknowledge. Others went to Canada or Sweden.

Next are people like Bill Clinton. Had a valid student deferment and talked about how bad the war was.

Further down are people who used legal means, but were silent.

Lowest are people like Bush Jr. who finagled his way into the National Guard [and bailed on his last year] and Trump who lied about his medical condition. Both of these two were happy to have other people die to defend their right to be a rich kid.

Lmao that NYT photo, is this a federal parade or local band night at the city park?

Even so, he's known for waving to invisible crowds. Wasn't there footage of him doing it when leaving court last year before E-Day?

I love the Bernie photoshop inclusion, classy.

Bernie was there!?!? See him there? In the front row? He may be hard to spot. He looks grumpy in this totally real and unedited photo.

My home town has an annual 4th of july parade. They feature the High School's marching band, about a dozen firetrucks from nearby cities, and about 160 vehicles total. The local flight school flies a loose formation of 5 Cessna 150s over the route.

Attendance is usually between 10,000 and 12,000.

105

Trump would tell us that your parade's attendance is about 500 losers, his parade had well over 200,000 very fine people.

6

Our Pensacola Mardi Gras parades stomps whatever that pathetic show was.

My initial reaction was embarrassment for Trump.

6

The wind of the collective whoooosh from people missing the joke could be a new major source of renewable energy.

25

Love how MTG points out how bad democrats are by pointing out DT had two assassination attempts. Fails to mention both were by registered and very openly loud repubs.

7

I'm sure I've also seen some news articles you haven't, its kinda hard to keep up with literally every single piece of news, especially something as inconsequential as that.

Hell, I had never even heard of the term 86 before today, and I know I'm not the only one in the comments that hadn't.

4
lemm.ee

Pathetic.

Nice job on our military for following orders but making it very obvious they don't give a flying fuck about drumpf's lousy birthday. Now that is exactly what I wanted to see-- out of step marching (they absolutely know how to march perfectly, it's literally drilled into them), old ass machinery, and never once saying HB to that ass-clown, they made it about the army instead. Niiice

61

This is the sphere in Las Vegas it holds a standing room capacity of 20,000 people or about 2.3x more people than attended Donny’s birthday flop parade.

57

Bro, the protest in fucking wichita had ~5k

That is saaad

48
lemm.ee

All the mainstream media is reporting 250,000 because some trump official Xcreated that. Maybe if you include the No Kings protests going on around the parade it's 250k

33
lemmy.world

To spell it out for y'all, it's a joke number.

86 means to stop, get rid of, or kill.

47 is the trump president number.

32
lemmy.today

Is that for people in the parade? Or forced to watch it in person?

32
scottreply
lemmy.org

OK I had to look it up but the joke is "86" as in "get rid of" and 47, that is, Trump

More likely they were promised payment, but have yet to collect.

10

If anyone dealing with him doesn't get paid up front, that's on them at this point, though.

Show me a photo of someone holding the check they received for filling a seat.

A: Sure, man.

Q: Cool, what kind of tank is it?

A: Sure, man.

Q: Um, I'm just trying to find out what kind of tank it is.

A: And I'm telling you. Sure, man.

British are always too cramped in their turrets, Irish too (Stephen Daedalus being a prime example).

1

It's worth mentioning that the entire DC Metro area is roughly 6 Million people. Calling this a small turnout for a city that size, let alone the whole country, is an understatement.

13
lemmy.world

Not sure I believe that number. But hell, I can't estimate crowds to save my life. At one point I was in the largest rock concert of all time, still have no clue.

All I can say is the one I went to easily had 2,000. And that's in the reddest part of Florida, and only 1 of 2 protests in Pensacola.

8

Not sure if I'm misunderstanding you here... But the number from this post is for the stupid military parade in DC with the tanks, not the no kings protests. I've seen claims that there were over 6 million attendees for those.

2
shalafireply

YES! I would have never remembered that! What a trip that all was. Forget getting to a porta-potty, piss your pants and get hosed down. I passed out and my gf took 5-hours just to get out of the parking lot. I'll never forget Bush playing and the crowd in the standing pelting those of us on the ground with trash (nothing dangerous).

Tell me you were there!

1

Yes sir! I remember it taking about the same amount of time try to get out of the parking lot. We lost part of our group and were wondering around after the shows for about an hour looking for them. I remember some drunk ass had swiped a security golf cart and was driving around with an empty bud light case on his head. Ah - good times.

1

Jesus. That's way lower than the generous estimate I considered credible enough from /r/theydidthemath yesterday.

7
lemmy.today

So 8 highschools. That's pretty good. A well known Mexican Pueblo doesn't even match that by at least 5 or 6 more people for Sunday church.

6

My highschool was more than 2000 people. And it was so new that our first semester was on two different campuses and they were still building int around us for another two years when we did move in.

Now I live in a very different area. The localist mega church gets 17,000+ butts in seats each week.

8500 people is less than normal tourism on a Saturday for DC. It was actually a net negative for attendance over just a normal day.

So, according to Trump after he's told that number, "millions and millions and millions, a parade like you've never seen! Streets overflowing! Yuge! Tremendous! The biggest and bestest parade of all time, I'd say! Putin and Kim were seeing it on their big screens, they called me just to tell me how beautiful of a parade mine was, and asked for advice on how to improve theirs! - I just know they must've had tears in their eyes seeing my big beautiful parade".

All while frantically playing his imaginary accordion. 🤡

5

I'm sure he was playing with something while talking to Putin but I doubt it was an accordion.

3

Lmao yall are still angry at Trump for being insufficiently hostile to North Korea.

Unfortunately, there after a lot of photoshopped/ generated / cut images so it is really hard to tell if there were many people on trump's show. I wished people would post the real photos instead of such obviously fake shit.
