Reddit refugees, has your favorite sub migrated already?

I, being someone who works with computers, have had some luck with most of my favorite subs being here already.

Despite that, some of my hobby ones still aren't here. NFL exists, but it's the same as nothing so far. Soccer I couldn't find at first, maybe today it already does? Also, no sign of fantasy football.

I also followed a bunch of History subs, but looks like most people in Lemmy only care about science and technology.

Tell us, what is missing for you?

Not really. It's incredibly frustrating and I've def lost some faith in humanity.

I thought /r/selfhosted would be ready to jump but everyone is like "but there's no users on lemmy" and "you'll split the community" and "we're going to go dark for two days - that will teach them!"

Consequently there's been no support for any single refuge.

Additionally people have set up several communities here with similar names in the past but now mods aren't responding so it's all a bit of a mess.

TeaHandsreply
lemmy.world

Idk which ones you've tried but I know there's [email protected]

As far as the "no single refuge" thing, I think that just comes with time as people decide "imma post in this one". Just pick one and go for it tbh.

14
beehaw.org

If you search from your own instance, I think it only shows the subscribers from your own instance. So browsing from lemmy.ml there might be one subscriber but on lemmy.world there would be 77.

11
dogmuffinsreply
lemmy.ml

Actually I just noticed that when you search for say, "selfhosted" you'll only be shown results that people have already accessed from the instance you're on. So when you search for a community, if none are shown that doesn't mean none exist, just that no one on your instance have accessed them yet ?

2

Ah see on mine it shows as having 77, so clearly those numbers are not to be trusted.

6

Give it time, things are accelerating really quickly!

And for what it's worth, people who have turned their back on Reddit and are now here, probably aren't contributing much or at all to discussions on Reddit... So it'll seem to skew more to voices that aren't switching or haven't yet.

10

I'm missing witchesagainstthe patriarchy, mommit, and quilting. Everything else is here and I'm going to get more familiar this weekend and maybe start some groups

24

I wish there was something like AskHistorians but I highly doubt I'll ever find something that good without a solid moderation team and very strict rules. Feels like it will either be Reddit (and fuck that to be honest) or nothing.

I still can go through rabbit holes on Wikipedia at least so there's that.

23

I didn't think about how sad it will be to lose askhistorians 😞

6

Even with solid moderation I feel like it'd be harder than for other subs just because you really need to have a decent population of people who really know what they're talking about

4

I suspect that if Reddit got that bad, centralised alternatives such as the Hive would mop up a lot of the userbase. Yes they might not come over to Lemmy, but they could be enticed if Lemmy gets a bit of a split up of beginner/advanced levels of control.

3
sh.itjust.works

So I'm using Jerboa for android. A d I click through to the list and I see, say, atheism on one of the instances, but how to do I add that to Jerboa?

I've tried the search function for subscriptions too but it doesn't come up. Am I missing something in how to sub to subs on other servers?

5
EmmDubzreply
lemm.ee

I have the same question, I saw somewhere to put the URL into the search and wait 10 seconds, but it still doesn't show up :p

4

Jerboa just doesn't seem to be very feature filled yet. Atm it's all we really have and I'm greatful for it, but unfortunately many features are still missing outside of the standard website. Hopefully with the growing popularity things will be improved more and more.

2

I created mine at /c/guitars , I'm not sure if the reddit community at large will join though. I'm hesitant to push it anywhere, it feels like sleazy self promotion. I just wanna talk about my hobbies with other hobbyists, and leave all the corporate greed back at reddit.

20

Yes but there's only 7 subscribers and I'm the only post :(

Then again it's a niche community about a fantasy series, I'm not surprised it doesn't have much going on yet.

20

They’re heeeeeeeere…

I’m really pleased by how many are starting anew on Lemmy. I giggled like a little kid when I saw HydroHomies was already up.

20

Not really. My most visited subs on reddit (fuck spez) were Rimworld, Zomboid, Hunt Showdown and various hobby/profession subs (graphic design, illustration, itap, photography). I'm fairly confident a UX/UI sub will pop up sooner rather than later considering how techie Lemmy's userbase seems to be. Iirc there is a gaming related comm on beehaw, but the odds those three games will be talked about is rather slim.

Edit: also, Swoleacceptance. Recently got back to the gym due to mental health. Was a gym rat years ago but life got in the way.

18

I just hope Lemmy becomes huge so niche things will start popping up, I miss specifc band and game subs like r/KGATLW and r/factorio for example. Though I have also found the searching of communities across instances to be somewhat unreliable. I'm also hoping for some good meme communities to flourish.

17

its going to take time, but I have a feeling things will accelerate quickly. I am here permanaently, now just need to create and find reasons for others to join me/us.

4
lemmy.ml

At the same time, some people just wanna lurk. Hell, like 85% of people just wanna lurk.

5
beehaw.org

Totally understandable and fine. But then you can't complain about there being no content, that's all.

This is all just part of being an early adopter on a platform that relies on user-generated content.

10
lemmy.fmhy.ml

Yea, not really complaining. I knew there will be stuff that would be missing stuff by adopting it so early.

This post is aimed more to encourage people to do exactly what you said, btw. See shared interests, engage in the same discussions and all.

3

Absolutely! Didn't read your post as a complaint I'm just clarifying for the other commenter 🙂

The main problem with recreating /r/NFL is it relies on news from places like Twitter, and the sort of people moving to Lemmy are likely to have also left Twitter...

3
lemmy.ml

nahh. my favourite subs are the braindead shitposting ones so

17

I can’t find any of my outdoor communities such as r/campingandhiking, r/backpacking, r/hikingcanada, r/wildernessbackpacking, r/nationalpark

15

I hate to say it but shitposts and circlejerks are a bit part of my reddit browsing to lighten the mood.

Otherwise, trash like terriblefacebookmemes and idiotsincars was great entertainment for some reason...

I don't know why I am like this.

Edit: to extend on this, seeing a post about some crazy shit play out and then reading everyone react to it is so much fun.

14

Still looking for a r/writingprompts replacement

Even if only to read

Edit:Looks like it already exists

!aiparadise.moe/c/writing

13
Roi
lemmy.ml

Yes, actually. r/programmerhumor and r/anarchychess although on different instances are just like they were over at reddit.

13

Tell us, what is missing for you?

Niche anime communities. So far, it's just Bocchi the Rock that has a separate community from the Anime community in lemmy.ml. I need my Re:Zero, KonoSuba, Kaguya-Sama, Classroom of the Elite, Call of the Night etc. I hope with more people coming in, it would been the flourishing of an entire anime ecosystem here in Reddit (probably one instance for anime solely?)

12
feddit.nl

Most of my intrests are there and have some activity. Mainly the computerstuff and all. But others exist but aren't active. Take for example kpop, japanese music, horses, the elder scrolls. I wouldn't mind a community for western style RPGs as those are nearly the only games I play, with a few exeptions. General gaming ones seem too general for me, too little I care about.

I am trying to post here, but also don't want to spam a community with only my posts and make it looks like some kind of echo chamber. Feels like a delicate balance on the (nearly) inactive ones.

12

I had a similar dilemma with the various (inactive) gamedev communities but honestly just picked one, started a couple of threads a day apart to avoid spamming, and things picked up from there. Sometimes all it takes is one person, it's worth a try!

4

I'd like to have a logo edit / sbubby sub.

Also, some niche ones that aren't there yet (AFAIK):

buildapc : PC building help

SavageGarden / carnivorousplants: subs aimed towards tending bug-eating plants

hardwaregore / firmwaregore / softwaregore / technope : subs based around faulty hardware and firmware, sometimes destroyed hardware, or badly designed software

cablefail : pictures of bad cable management and the chaos of cabling in general

itsaunixsystem : sub based on overly fake or wrong tech in the media

PBSOD : faulty kiosks and such displaying error messages in the open

spicypillows / spicybricks : sub based on the pictures of swollen batteries of any kind, with the "bricks" being UPS batteries

dankpods / battrees : Australian youtuber who yells at several portable music gadgets and headphones, the battrees one being pictures of off-brand batteries, mostly PKCell batteries, but can also be several others as well.

techsupportmacgyver : instances of crazy fixes that ended up working

termux : sub for the Termux project

ITRage (likely a replacement for iiiiiiitttttttttttt) : information technology-related rage posts

headphones : not sure if there's a sub there for headphones and IEM related stuff so I guess there could be one.

justrolledintotheshop : automotive repair shop employee's findings when working on vehicles

Another, much more niche music, streaming and TV-related:

kpop : for Korean music news and updates, discussion (with objective viewpoint)

kdrama : news and updates about Korean drama series, reviews, discussion

kdramarecommends : recommendations for Korean drama series

trigger (or maybe studiotrigger) : discussion and updates on anime made by Studio Trigger

webtoons : webtoon series discussion

animemusic : sharing music featured in anime series

This all I could get from the top of my head currently.

12

Nope, not yet, unfortunately. The majority of them either hasn't migrated here yet, or has a low amount of subscribers. Hopefully, more of them starts migrating here soon.

The ones I frequently browse that I doubt will migrate here are probably r/characterai, r/choiceofgames, and r/hostedgames.

I haven't seen r/gamedeals and r/livestreamfail here yet, but their amount of subscribers is pretty high compared to the other subreddit I've listed, so I think they'll probably migrate here soon.

But at least the country I live in has made a community here already. The amount of subscribers is still pretty low, but some people in there have been making a few posts and comments recently, so hopefully it gets more active soon.

11

r/diwhy was always one of my favorites :,) also miss r/Phoenix and r/Tempe for getting to find things to do near me. Maybe once that last wave off reddit hits some more Arizonans will catch the drift

10

Game-specific subreddits (i.e., LegendsofRuneterra, PathofChampions, CustomLoR, MagicArena, leagueoflegends, starcraft, Factorio, LastEpoch, ftlgame). [email protected] looks good.

Franchise-specific subreddits like Batman. [email protected] looks good.

Entertainment (i.e., Showerthoughts, oddlysatisfying, interestingasfuck, DesignDesign, EngineeringPorn, OldSchoolCool).

Niche art (i.e., PixelArt, RetroFuturism, cassettefuturism, TheNightFeeling).

I expect the first two categories (where I commented most) to be the slowest to move here.

At least they're sticking to same format using [DISC]. That reminds me of good ol' r/manga.

3

There’s no gone wild yet! Although that might a bit of a sausage fest if created rn

10

I'm going to miss the mycology sub, haven't had any luck in finding something similar yet.

10

I've got my politics, I've got my world news, techstuff, gaming & memes. I'd like to see picture subs like earthporn more populated. They're currently pretty empty. Also missing content in my regional Austria sub but that will solve itself if the reddit exodus continues.

9

Mainly just communities for specific games, if they do exist they aren’t populated enough for interaction

9

If anyone misses /r/chapotraphouse they have their own version of Lemmy they have built for the last 3 years which should be back to being federated soon. hexbear.net for anyone interested.

9
lemmy.ml

I would like a CitiesSkylines community on Lemmy.

9

There is an unofficial paradox community. IIRC it is on lemmy.ml. We could probably post CS stuff in there

1

Missing: r/liberalgunowners, r/libertarian without the hard-right Mises Caucus flavor, r/reloading, r/longrange

Happy to see: r/iowa, r/SocialistRA

Happy to not see: r/politics, r/whitepeopletwitter and their... unique dogpiling

@zakiuem

@RomanRoy

I would love a Honkai Star Rail community. I’ve learned a lot, if not all of what I know about the game from the subreddit people.

2

We have https://kbin.social/m/mechanicalkeyboards on kbin.

If you're on a Lemmy instance then the best way to add it is to paste the full URL into search while logged in. It won't show up right away, but if you wait a few seconds then it'll appear in the search results. Every now and then it gets stubborn and you have to refresh the search results page to see it.

3

Well I've found a Soccer sub, but that's about it

Ffs just realised just how many subs I've been participating in over there, would be a big loss

8

Coffee and espresso are both dead here it brings me great sadness.

8
lemmy.one

I got very lucky, there is a whole instance dedicated to flight simulation and aviation now! lemmyfly.org if anyone is wondering.

My subreddit list on Reddit was quite long, so it'll be a while until I have a comparable list with silly communities.

8

i'm trying to "migrate" my favorite subs to kbin. i am getting errors... don't know if i've met a limit or if everything is just overloaded rn

edit: after some hours, i'm allowed to make new "magazines" on kbin. god bless

8
lemmy.ml

Create it! I recreated one of my favorites and am waiting for others to join. If you created Movies, I'd join for sure.

3

FFXIV, most of the writing subs, Another Eden, I don't think FoundryVTT has moved yet, PF2E, there aren't nearly as many cute-animal communities yet, etc.

7

No but not a lot of people have multiple sclerosis so I undersand.

7

I'm hoping for some specific craft communities, but for now it makes sense to huddle together in [email protected]. We do love to show off pics of all our projects though so I expect it won't be too long before it makes sense to start splitting that up.

7
lemmy.ml

I just subscribed to my local city of /c/Boston - but there are no posts yet. I just really want a space where I can talk about local current events, news, business openings and closures, infrastructure projects, etc.

I also liked going into other city's subs to see what's going on before travelling. In Reddit, they were always great spaces for restaurant recommendations, helpful tips and tricks, tourist traps to avoid, etc.

7

I'd love to see a Minnesota Vikings subreddit and am thinking about starting one but am intimidated* at being not only a mod but the top mod. I've never been a mod before and don't want to mess it up haha

7

A user migrated one, I migrated another. Neither have had activity worth mentioning.

There's a handful of others I used heavily that haven't though. I'm missing r/metalmemes in a bad way lol.

7
beehaw.org

Not really, but it's not overly surprising really.

Most of my favourite subs are pretty nerdy, niche ones, or kinda based on a stupid joke. So the likes of /headphones /iPod /BicyclingCircleJerk may or may not make it over here.

7

Did you find a bicyclecirclejerk yet? Or are all the freds still on reddit

1

None of the No Man's Sky subs have shown indications of moving, which bums me out. I'd much rather get my glyphs, neat screenshots, and wild speculation from a forum rather than Discord.

7
lemmy.one

Waiting for the parenting subreddits to appear.

7

I did that with metalgearsolid though in all honesty if those mods come over hear I'll just make them mods and let them handle it haha. I just wanted to get the ball rolling while the hype train for the remake is going on.

7

I mostly used /r/Denmark. Now I use the feddit.dk instance, but it isn't officially supported by the /r/Denmark mods.

7

Waiting for the Farming and Gardening subs to move over along with prepping.

7
feddit.it

Interestingafuck, sharepoint, o365, mapsporn, yuzu, kotlin, all missing

7

It would be kinda nice if /aaaaaaacccccccce made it over. I know there's a lgbt on beehaw but it's not quite the same if that makes sense.

7
beehaw.org

Maybe some IT meme subs. I feel like those will be on here soon enough.

I also miss my local subs. I live in a midsized city and it's going to take quite a lot of time for it to migrate. I don't want to start it myself because the community is pretty toxic, but it has helpful information. What I'm saying is, I don't want to be a moderator to that community hah.

7

Subreddits to discuss certain bands, or games, or tv shows. Yeah sometimes they got repetitive but it was cool to see memes and discussion about specific pieces of media. Even if r/Metallica has a post every day about how St. Anger is underrated. Or the subreddit for Battlefield 1 just complains about certain weapons in a game from 2015.

7

yea it will be a while before individual band subs get moved over, and for some bands that have waned in popularity over the years they might never see the transfer over. even larger music subs for more niche genres are gonna be in freefall for a while. Shoutout to https://lemmy.ml/c/indieheads

2
sh.itjust.works

Some have, some haven't.

Two which haven't are /r/sweden and /r/languagelearning hopefully they'll come soon.

7

Fint att se fler svenskar här! I randomly visited the feddit.se domain and surprisingly found a Lemmy instance there, but the admin hasn't done anything with it yet. I hope /c/sweden (if it gets created) gets its own instance for Swedish-speaking communities instead of being stuck on a big instance. Until then, I'm staying on the Danish instance lmao.

r/LanguageLearning though, please leave that on Reddit... the only good thing to come out of there is r/languagelearningcirclejerk. Why would anyone join a general community for language learning instead of a community for the specific language they're learning, if not to speak English all the time and brag about how much of an epic polyglot they are?!

5
feddit.dk

Du er velkommen til at kigge forbi på feddit.dk. Der er allerede et par svenskere her.

2
lemmy.ml

Not yet, I made a couple for discussions about whiskey and steam remote play (playing steam games on your phone and stuff). I just realized I should post the massive guide I wrote for the latter in the new community!

7
feddit.dk

The art sharing subreddits like Imaginary Network, /r/awwnime, /r/patchuu, /r/moescape and similar. I want to start an instance that automatically crossposts from those subreddits to the Fediverse, and users here can also contribute with artwork that fits the community's theme. It'll probably fetch the posts through RSS to avoid the API limits, but who knows if Reddit might shut that down too. So I'll have to wait until this API situation stabilizes.

7

This for sure, all the art and also all the NSFW art collected on reddit is going to become significantly harder to access, it'd be nice to have somewhere for both.

3
beehaw.org

I'm waiting for someone to re-create r/france here, as it seems you need an engineer degree to understand how to setup your instance :(

6
klangcolareply
reddthat.com

In general you don't need to set up your own instance to create a Community /c/France, you can just create it on any existing instance that allows Community creation by users. I notice you're on beehaw who have decided to limit Community creation to Admins for now.

That said, many regional non-english speaking communities have made their own instances (feddit.de, feddit.dk, feddit.ir), maybe it has something to do with limiting language used?

4

While you need to be computer savvy to create an instance, creating a community is as simple as creating a subreddit. I created /c/[email protected], and I'm not even in STEM.

3
TeaHandsreply
lemmy.world

Looks like you're on Kbin? I'm not sure how it works over there tbh, but if it's like with Lemmy you may need to search and wait for it to actually show a result (or search, wait, then refresh the page and search again lol it's a bit finicky). Basically if nobody from one instance has searched for a community before it needs a little extra time to pull the data.

Again though not 100% this is the case on Kbin, but it is here.

2
vlemmy.net

One of my favorite subreddits is r/engrish. Its basically all about funny english mistakes. I couldn't find it anywhere so i just created it here and posted some of my favourites. I would love if people are intrested is post you english mistaks you find and help build out the community. Im still very new to lemmy but have been loving it.

6

Similarly I wouldn't mind seeing something like r/trouduction show up here (bad translation errors but in French), although I suppose first we'd probably have to have any French-speaking communities at all, which for the moment it seems don't really exist

2

I'm wondering about u/poemforyoursprog. Sam has been a reddit fixture for around a decade now. I remember this one time in 1998, The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer's table."

It has, but it's quite empty yet. There are some posts, but I can seem to be able to reply sometimes. I use the "Jerboa" app and I get a "language not allowed" error. Anyone knows how to fix this?

6

I scanned quickly through the comments here so I may have missed any mentions, if there were any... But my suggestion is: there should be a master/stickied list of equivalent subreddits. So in the future, people can just google [subreddit name] + lemmy (or kbin or beehaw etc etc).

Preferably the same exact subreddit name. Or are those subreddit names owned by Reddit? Can they come after us?

6

I think so. Not sure if it's official - as in, done by the mods - but there seems to be a few people over there already! CasualUK over on reddit was my favourite sub, and https://lemmy.world/c/ukcasual seems to be the place to be now on Lemmy.

6

One of my main subs was /r/cfb, I don't think it has transitioned yet... Hopefully it'll get up and running before football season starts.

Boomer Sooner!

6

Mechanicalpencils is missing for me. I don't post there much on reddit, but I love lurking there. I hope they migrate.

6

I follow a lot of niche hobby and some other communities that haven't come over yet.

A couple have started to shuffle on over but not a lot yet.

I also followed a lot (like a serious amount) of art subs that haven't seemed to come over yet. I basically followed most of the "imaginary[insert niche here]" subs.

6

I mean I mainly spent my time on the UK based subs and we've got United Kingdom and casualuk equivalents here already which is good. They both need a lot more users though.

Mainly what I'm missing are skateboarding, more specific music subs like metal, punk etc., but those will come in time I'm sure.

Nice to be here by the way, still getting used to how the whole fediverse thing works but it seems pretty cool so far!

6

/r/welding /r/machinists /r/cherokeexj /r/jeep made it though (and some wrangler community... so, yay?)

No and I doubt they will, I'll have to look for an alternative to get my mexican memes and news.

I didn't really have a favourite sub. My reddit activity was mostly in trans spaces, but I've got that covered here on the fediverse, because I admin a trans Hajkey/Calckey instance.

So instead, I find myself using threadiverse communities that I wasn't really active in on reddit

"Threadiverse" has a good denim feel to it.

4

exactly this! find something (even if its only tangentially related) and join. post something. this is a great opportunity to stop lurking and make an outsized contribution to your fellow humans by posting content. you are here. your influence and actions right now matter.

2

i haven't found a grimdank or other wh40k comunity so far

4

One has, but there are no posts yet I've created another, created a post and am waiting to see if others move over. I plan on giving up modship ASAP because I'm not built for that. Yet another has and there's a bit of activity.

4

Not yet. I really hope people start coming over though. Things like Unraid were a HUGE resource. Maybe stuff like BuyItForLife and so on.

I used reddit for crowdsourcing info on products and tech support.

4

Esoteric one for all of you … r/faceting used to discuss faceting gemstones. Also r/gemstones … what can I say it’s a hobby I enjoy. 😁

4

Mainly specific game subs, but I could always make them myself I suppose.

4

As a non American user, I recently struck gold finding r/USDdefaultism. It'd be nice if the need for this kind of sub doesn't migrate to Lemmy as well though.

4
lemmy.ml

Looks like it's been here for a while (worldbuilding), just isn't that active.

4

One of my most visited lately is for a reality TV show, Vanderpump Rules. It’s not here, but I suspect the crossover between early adopters here on the fediverse and trashy reality TV shows is very low lol.

4

For the most part yes, I would say anything mainstream is generally made its way to lemmy, however some niche subs like r/hamradio r/gmrs and some gaming subreddits like r/fireemblem and r/finalfantasy seem to be missing. Honestly I'm surprised even 90+% of the communities I follow are on here, I'm quite hopeful that it'll continue to get better.

4

I really like the poker subreddit. It's a really strange place, there's always some kind of shit post, tons of sarcasm.. people are dicks to eachother. And yet it can be a very helpful resource when the facade drops and people become genuinely helpful. Also lots of great clips from world poker events. I'm not sure Lemmy is the place for this tbh, there are many other established poker forums.

3

r/pathofexile. I hope it gets going before the next league starts

3

twobestfriendsplay has begun to spin up, so now all I need is my gacha shit and my TTRPG shit.

3

Not really, and I have low hopes of that happening, tbh.

Most communities are very low-tech, so users might have a hard time adapting to the environment.

3
lemmy.fmhy.ml

I think it is just normal that it becomes filled with tech people at first. Then these people help the environment improve, new features are born, new apps and then there's a boom,

4
godlessreply
latte.isnot.coffee

Yeah, I hope so. I just hope this time it's taking off in the right way, I've been one of the first 100 users to migrate over to Voat when shit hit the fan years ago on reddit, and that community went down the deep end real quick.

5
lemmy.fmhy.ml

Voat

As in alt-right, fascist shit?

I don't think this is where Lemmy is going, tbh.

4

Originally, it was just a Reddit alternative. It turned that way later when regular users went back to Reddit and the more extreme users stuck around voat

4

Yep exactly. Sure hope this won't happen again. I guess being able to block some of those servers entirely will certainly help.

4

pretty much. the very nature of the open source, decentralized fedi tends to attract a certain mindset; a mindset that is decidedly anti-fascist. with vigilant pushback when needed i think we will be good.

1
Admetusreply
sopuli.xyz

Like for example the default search for communities should be All due to the confusion of search results only popping up with internal instance communities. I worked it out noticing no @ but most newbies will get confused and see jangled messes of community and instance addresses.

3

Yep, I agree. Joined through an instance run by a friend, so we might be able to tweak it locally, but unless we suggest it as a feature in git and merge it into the main built, I don't see that coming as a default setting.

I'm gonna miss furry_irl tbh. I didnt post that much tbh, but I liked that community. Fortunately there is a furry instance here.

lemmy.ml

How can I create a community? I am trying to on Lemmy.ml but I keep getting an error “Match the requested format”

3

lowercase with no special characters and you are good to go

pawb.social

I'm missing r/Succulents, r/elite Dangerous, r/bisexual and r/watercooling. And r/MTB too. I hope some or all of those come over. Not having r/Succulents is distressing because they are a font of good information on rare plants.

r/xbiking… I need my xbiking

I just created [email protected] as a general-purpose cycling community, in the hopes that it will either be as inclusive as xbiking or otherwise will eventually spur spin-off cycling communities.

Thank you!! How do I join it? That link opens my browser to a 404 error. I'm in jerboa!

2

I think you need to use the web client if it's the first time your instance accesses a community hosted on another instance. In which case, just go to the search bar and enter ![email protected], it should show up (you might have to click "next" once or twice in the search results)

3
beehaw.org
  • Complaint about on foot missions
  • Newbie stuck with no fuel left
  • Ad for an exploration expedition
  • More complaints
  • Bizarre conspiracy theory about something Thargoid or other
  • Even more complaints
  • Screenshot of an Asp in front of something

There you go, that should tide you over on the Elite thing at least!

Missing lots of groups.

Region/language specific: German, Hamburg

Topics: Climate, Gamedesign, ChatGPT, DebateReligion, DebateMeatEaters, AskScience

Someone posted https://kbin.social/m/fediverse/t/4331/The-growing-list-of-subreddits-going-to-be-dark-but which seems to suggest at least some of these already exist. But when I try to find/subscribe, I get "No results". I'm trying to find new communities here, is this the right way? https://lemmy.click/search/q/search/type/Communities/sort/TopAll/listing_type/All/community_id/0/creator_id/0/page/1

I think the subs I am going to miss the most are mostly gaming subreddits, I dint have high hopes they'll move. /r/bindingofisaac will be most missed and /r/196 for the hilarity. I am sort of surprised that the list is so small, I feel like reddit communities have been going down in quality faster than usual lately. I like this place and tildes, if it could grow a bit more so 100+ comment threads could happen daily that would be perfect.

3
Roireply

I’m pretty sure 196 exists over at ![email protected] (maybe it’s another instance but idk). Not sure about r/bindingofisaac.

2

I really want a csharp (C#) one. I know there is one but no one has posted there yet. XD And more game/Indie dev.

And something equivalent to the aww subreddit (does anyone know one?).

3

Fydeos, chromeos, brunch toolkit, azzurro zcs owners.

3

I miss /r/AppHookup. Everything else already arrived!

2

My beloved Manchester City (Football / Soccer team)are playing in the UEFA Champions league final tonight, I understand the mods may be a bit preoccupied yet hope the sub makes it over here. Right now though, I doubt there will be any moves yet for atleast a few days.

2

Not fully. Some are but nothing that I've found like consolerrepair or any of the console hack community's. The main thing I liked from those was the resources you could find from the wikis or from old post.

2

I tried making a Shin Megami Tensei community because there wasn't one but I'm the only one in it still.

2

I am still missing r/TrueFilm (in-depth discussions about film) and r/TheOverload (unconventional electronic music). Are there any communities about those subjects yet?

2

I'd love to find the circlejerk subs here. That probably won't happen for a while.

2

Not quite but slowly either finding people who have or else solving that issue myself. MirrorsEdgeAesthetics isn't working no matter what I try, but just about everything elseiI'm slowly getting started with here, at least for the SFW stuff anyway.

2

Yeah, I was quite disappointed to see that most, if not all, subreddits I follow had already shut down on Reddit. I mean, there's r/learnjapanese, r/fitness, r/iwanttolearn, r/piracy, r/nootropics... I could go on and on. I'm actually considering creating a Lemmy community in place of r/chineselanguage, since I see nothing of the sort has been created yet here. However I'm quite hesitant, since I don't really have the time nor interest in moderating a community, so... maybe I'll just wait for someone else to create it instead?

2

I’ve found a lot of replacements. There’s just some very niche subreddits that I follow that haven’t had equivalents made yet unfortunately. Also some subs for some of the franchises/properties I like. Those will hopefully get some equivalents soon.

2

Hobby subs, definitely. History subs. Book subs are low membership so far here. r/tea and r/sewing/, being some favorites.

2

Mostly communities for specific games. Like Destiny, Forza, Deep Rock Galactic, and that taboo anime game. I also miss the fanart communities. Hopefully these will grow here too over time, but who knows.

2

I'm not mod material but if someone wants to create /c/juggling and /c/throwers I am in for a sub

2

I'm missing an active EDH (Magic the gathering) community.

A bouldering community. The rest will come over time.

2

Tinkercad didn't have one yet, so I made it. Would love to see more maker groups, but it'll grow organically and I'm pretty patient.

1

For football, r/gunners has just migrated to [email protected]! Bit empty rn, but hopefully we'll have just the same memes and community that make us what we are. My friend, is ok, no?

1

One of the very few subreddits (like 4, seriously) that I lurked on hasn't migrated to Lemmy, yet. But I like to see them here soon enough.

1

I have seen a couple communities so far but I might just create the communities to start them off

1

I'm still waiting for an SBC Gaming/handheld community and more fashion communities.

I would start them myself but ive been super busy recently :(

1

Not really. I'm mainly waiting for some motorcycle communities, telescope/astrophotography ones, Silmarillion/LOTR/StarWars/StarTrek memes, along with some other minor ones. Some of these technically exist but they are low on member counts FOR NOW, literally growing by the minute though.

Also the search function seems to be a little off so sometimes it doesnt always list the correct number of active users for a community if its a community from an external instance. Also not all communities show up/are indexed quickly. But im sure that will improve relatively quickly

1

Are there any tools to kickstart a new community by importing from Rss, other SN, or similar ? Also, are there any AI/bot API, so we can add AI curated posts to communities ?

1

I've made a paradoxextra community on lemmy.ml, for who's interested

1
kbin.social

I'm a sucker at using the kbin / Lemmy search. I am still looking for these communities:

/r/atbge
/r/justfuckmyshitup
/r/catsareassholes
/r/thecatdimension
/r/KidsAreFuckingStupid
/r/cologne or / r/koeln
/r/parents or /r/eltern
/r/djs or /r/beatmatch
/r/house or /r/deephouse

There are probably more... If noone knows where these communities exist on Lemmy or kbin, I will create them! Maybe you can help me deciding on which instance it would be best. I can do lemmy.ml, lemmy.world, feddit.de and kbin.

I thought it did, but it is currently bot reposts, I guess that makes sense though.
