Staying busy and avoiding news. It’s highly likely that it won’t be decisive, and we don’t need to feed the relentless hysterical coverage machine of media corporations.

Thank you for this. I'm signing off for today, I'm sure I'll find the results out eventually

I'm just going to watch memes and shitposts here on Lemmy

37

Do you have to be on their patreon? I've been hearing everyone talking about this and I find their sudden popularity odd. I found Some More News through Internet Comment Etiquette (best show on YouTube) and SMN struck me as cringy AF even though I generally agree with the presenters. What pulls you to this show? Not really judging, just a little surprised and curious.

The republicans we know said today to expect trouble and to gas up and get groceries and just hunker down for a while. Which is not at all ominous.

I won’t be watching. I’m going out to my shop at 8. No internet out there. And probably not emerging until dead of night or early morning. Then, like a lot of other women, I’ll check on my status as a person going forward.

My other half is taking Benadryl and forcing himself to go to bed. He’s given strict instructions not to wake him, even if it’s good news, with a clear Kamala win. (Yea, trouble later, but it’ll still tell us what We The People decided up front, and that means a lot.)

29

I'm actively trying to avoid it, but even in The Netherlands it's hard to avoid the talk of the town.

2

Tbh, I got a lot of work to do. I will probably just check the news that night or wait for someone to tell me.

11

Do your work, there's going to be a lot of back-and-forth and probably at least one legal challenge to work through before we have a final result so you won't be missing anything

Swede here, if I want to know directly when I wake up tomorrow, I'll check our national broadcaster's website, if not I'll probably end up learning it here on lemmy, possibly through politicalmemes or something

11

Gonna do the same. Wake up, hit snooze, check SVT and Dagens Nyheter, and then onwards to /c/political memes. Possibly an excursion to BBC and CBC.

7

I get my news from Youtube/Lemmy, other than that it will be on every tv station here in Germany.

3

The restaurant I work for is hosting the mayor and a city counselor to watch the elections live with another 100 guests, so I'll be watching from the kitchen...

Oh my. I hope that ends up being an interesting night rather than a tragic one. Then again, if y'all serving alcohol... might be very lucrative.

8

I get off early, so I'm going to buy a fresh pack of cigarettes and fraternize with the politicians while I wait to see exactly how the world will end.

6

The county assessors site for everything state and local. I will briefly check national, but I dont need the pageantry of network television to rile me up anymore than I already am.

Thanks! I just want to point out that some of the links may have changed, especially the YouTube links. So just as a reference, just go to the channel and search for the live feed of the election coverage.

After asking a similar question on this channel a few days ago, I think we're going to watch the coverage on NBC, unless I find something better on YouTube.

Cue all the comments about the final results not being available tomorrow night...

7

No, I think I'm with you with NBC. Knowing full well it's a cliffhanger ending, I'm not sure I'll be able to look away anyway.

4
lemmy.world

I'm not. I've checked the results a couple times online, but I see no sense in watching coverage. We'll know the outcome when it's over and not a moment before.

Yeah, it's not a football game. It's "It could go either way" until it goes one way and stays there. That's when it matters.

4

Either at a partisan gathering or curled up under my bed in the fetal position while my dogs lick my tears, depending on how things look tomorrow evening

7

There's a divey bar 10m away where people have been watching results the last few years. Might head down there. Pretty sure it'll be packed.

Alternative is to crawl into bed and wait till January.

Edit: we have a lot of local races (Mayor, City Council, propositions) on the line. Might hit the bar just to watch those and just ignore the national stuff.

6

I'm probably going to avoid it tomorrow. Hoping to catch the result Weds maybe.

5

Unfortunately for my sanity over here in UTC+9, I can't just sleep through the whole thing. I'm hopeful that work will be busy enough tomorrow that I won't have time to think about it. What I also know is that it's most likely going to get drawn out longer, so I won't likely be specifically watching anywhere, but just picking up occasional US news somewhat accidentally along the way (either here or via fark). I voted as soon as I could print my overseas ballot and get it in the mail so I've done all I can do.

5

CBC/BBC/Al Jazeera, checking the Economist for my minute by minute bellweather county level fun.

4
monyet.cc

I'll know the result once i wake up from sleep.

-lemming from the other side of the earth

4

Yeah. I think if you're from Europe you probably see the final-ish result in two days or so. Tomorrow will be some counted with many still to go.

1

Some states do not allow counting early votes early, some states allow a couple days for mail in votes as long as they were postmarked today, plus there will almost certainly be challenges and recounts

3

I'll be making sure my thermal scope has fresh batteries and my fastest car has gas to GTFO of my state if need be. Thankfully I live in a city that rednecks think is some kind of blue Baghdad so I'm likely fairly safe.

Two possible scenarios:

  1. OP’s autocorrect wrote “returns” when they meant for the post to say “results”, in reference to the U.S. election

  2. OP knows that the rapture is happening tomorrow when the pious souls will return to Heaven

15
Pudutr0nreply

I like the second scenario best tbh, even if it entails me burning in hell for the rest of eternity.

4

Don’t worry, the first scenario also could produce hell on earth for the rest of eternity as well

4

I don't know. I've been enjoying the late decadence of western civilization, to be perfectly honest. It could get worse, sure, but can you imagine anything more boring than having our collective survival as a species guaranteed?

I can't.

2
lemmy.world

There's a difference between poll returns and election results. Returns are "as they happen" and get updated. Results are final.

4
lemmy.world

Thanks. I realized after the comment that the term has gone out of fashion

5
P00ptartreply

Even if the rapture happens tomorrow, nothing changes.

"God" - "I started the rapture, why aren't there more people up here?"

St peter- "there weren't any believers that were qualified"

2

Take them anyway, I really don't want to be stuck with a bunch of rapture reject crybabies. Burn me in hell forever, see if I give a shit, but don't make me listen to them whine about it.

2

You're not wrong though. Poll returns are what you get gradually until all votes are reported. Results are the final results of the election.

2

It's currently 11.30 in the morning here, so I'll be sleeping, or at least attempting to.

2

I'm not watching. What's the point of being manipulated and made to feel like we care about who wins? What previous president made things better instead of worse?

It's like peasants cheering for either a turd or an asshole, both of which have much more in common with eachother than us. Great choices.

They are professional politicians with loads of money and influence, and an entire pr staff to write stories about them and make them appear a certain way to the public.
