To be fair, it's free, so I can't complain 🤷... and it doesn't happen often... like once every few hours...

It had some problems at the beginning, when the big wave hit, now it's kinda OK. Some lags here and there, but generally OK.

I don't recommend it, the more boots you use the heavier your computer will be. I've got mine down to half a boot and I'm working on getting it down to a quarter.

Why is it that ever since upgrading Fedora I need to restart the pipewire daemon every time I plug/unplug headphones or else media freezes?

58
0x4E4Freply
sh.itjust.works

Because the sound goes through pipes and you need to let them rest, otherwise they might burst from the sound pressure.

103

Something similar is happening to me on Manjaro. Semms the newest pipewire update made it so it doesn't auto-route devices to the main sound output anymore...

4

One thing that works for me on Pop OS is to switch audio device in the settings, it's like the buffer gets filled up and switching device flushes it.

The community told me that using Arch would turn me into a cute femboy. It's been a decade and I'm still as large and hairy as I was back then.

My question is who should I sue for this false advertisement?

Yes, they're the only exception, though there are efforts to get them working with the cp command.

What is a bootloader and why would anyone want to load boots?

29

sh.itjust.works

They're just regular sockets that do most of the work... the net thing is just added to complicate things.

50

They're socks that programmers usually wear when they're out, not programming, because everyone needs socks when they go out. But, programmers felt underappreciated if their socks are called just like everyone elses socks, so they changed their name by adding programmer in front.

So someone suggested to me that Linux is amazing for gaming.

I decided to split boot and installed Mint and attempted to play Forza Horizon 5. It literally runs like a potato. Also my Logitech steering wheel doesn't work and has major input lag.

  2. How do I install systemd-dispatcher on Void Linux RC?

Well, you have only 4 controls for him, up, down, left, right, whereas, let's say Mario, also has fire and jump, so that's 2 controls more, which makes pacman simpler, thus faster.

A distro is a set of applications preinstalled on a Linux kernel that don't seem to work as expected. Debugging tools usually don't come preinstalled with the distro.

What are the important, distinguishing differences between RHEL8 and REHL9 one should probably know.

11
lemmy.blahaj.zone

One is divisible by 3 and not 2, and the other is divisible by 2 and not 3

This is very important when checking if your software packages are compatible

22
lemmy.blahaj.zone

That is a high compatibility version for when you need to work with many different softwares at once

1

Not at all! Since it's half of 9, it can therefore work with half of the software RHEL 9 is compatible with, but since the 4 is also divisible by 2, it can handle all of that software as well.

It's really quite simple, I don't see how this could be confusing at all...

How do you reverse the bit-stream scalar using the systemd fractional scaling initializer?

10

You remove the scalar with pliers, then do some welding work on the initilalizer to get it to the proper shape (systemd is known to have unstandard sizes of shape and size plugs). Then, you chop the bit-stream into single bits and insert them one by one into the initializer, hold them there, then plug the initializer in systemd and let the bits fall in it. EZ

Why did I have to burn multiple install CDs before finally getting one to work back in 2013?

Weren't floppy's relatively rewritable? Why did you have to buy multiple instead of simply trying multiple times?

2
Gimpydudereply

Floppies were very rewritable, but the distro wouldn't fit on a single one.

1

See but I'm talking about burning an install CD for Puppy and having it just straight not work and the solution being "just burn another one" like CDs were cheap for a 13 year old.

1

I think you have a little bit of solder flux stuck in your gray beard on the left side... No, other left.

2

Because not all distros work with their respective boot floppies. I gather you finally realized that in 2013.

How do I set up a VNC server from my Manjaro machine? If anyone wants to give a real answer I'd appreciate that too!

The real asnwer is, you don't. Manjaro is an Italian based distro, and we all know how much Italians work in real life, so this distro doesn't really work either. Your best choice is to ditch Manjaro and use TempleOS for your VNC server.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, Systemd/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Systemd plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning EMACS plugin made useful by Systemd.

Because GNOME keeps sabotaging Wayland.

Serious answer: because Vaxry (Hyprland owner) didn't want to wait for Wayland protocols to be approved by the big players (but more likely vetoed by GNOME and Weston), and made his own implementations with blackjack and hookers. He even made his own xdg-desktop-portal implementation to get screen recording to work.
