GitHub is owned by Microsoft right? I didn't expect GitHub India would be laid off, but this could be a sign that GitHub is afraid the recession will hit India soon.
It is a regular tech trend now that large corporations (Meta, Twitter, Amazon, etc.) are laying off people so that they can stay alive through a potential recession. The strange thing to note is that the same companies are also continuing to spend on marketing, which should have been paused during recessions since people will spend less.

It feels like amercia will go into a recession for a while. But reports suggest that India might not. In fact some claim that we we'll be able to achieve positive growth this year against all odds

It's probably bcoz the engineers here were assigned to non critical projects hence the layoffs
I know at least 12 people who were working at startups in blr that lost their jobs recently
