Gotta love it when people who have no understanding of how Linux works writes laws about how Linux should work...

Not just influencers, but also politicians and news media. I have a master's degree in statistics, and it's not at all uncommon for politicians and media to misrepresent scientific results. Correlation does not equal causation. If a study hasn't been peer reviewed, I wouldn't say that it proves anything just yet. Studies on a non-representative sample aren't generalizeable to the population as a whole. And so on..

I would love to be wrong about this, but I don't think it's likely. Why would a government voluntarily spend money on making the app work for a minority of people running a privacy OS that politicians associate with criminals and gangsters?

Also, it's not like the wallet app will actually be open source in the traditional sense where you can fork and compile it yourself, so I think getting any decent version of it seems like a long shot

My mother was scared that anything I liked might be harmful, so getting her to let me enjoy my games and music in peace felt like a win. She wouldn't feign any sort of interest, so if she asked a question you knew it was a threat.

In fact, I was almost 30 the first time either of my parents asked a genuine question about my favourite game of all time (that I spent literally thousands of hours playing). I was almost too shocked to answer.

I mean, I get that kid's stuff is boring, but I feel like if you can't take some kind of interest in your kids you shouldn't have any.

If anyone irl asks, I'm "trying to learn how to use Linux". Which is technically true, I still learn new things all the time!

I haven't had any issues with my nvidia GPU. I did some distro-hopping and didn't have any nvidia issues in any of the distros I tried.

If you want everything to work out of the box, I would recommend Bazzite. Pop! OS had me using the AMD image and fetching the nvidia driver manually (the nvidia image just didn't work for me). After that, everything worked brilliantly.

I have no idea what anyone should be doing, but I'll tell you what I personally am doing:

• emailing my representatives over and over
• emptied all cloud services and all personal big tech accounts (can't do much about the work ones..)
• getting acquainted with Linux, VPNs and Tor
• learning to flash custom ROMs
• testing said custom ROMs
• digging into app permissions - even graphene comes with things enabled that I realized I want to turn off (like ad privacy, printer services and android services that enable nearby share which I personally don't use)
• use Obtainium and F-droid for apps
• testing out p2p services to see which ones are useful
• stashing Linux isos, so I hopefully always have at least one that either doesn't have age verification or one where it's easy enough to rip out
• downloaded "linux from scratch", but I'll admit I haven't read it yet

Unfortunately not, the wallet app must have source code available except for parts deemed too sensitive, which are exempt

I hope you're right! I saw something flashing by about the UK suing Steam over price fixing, with the threat of enormous fines or being banned if they don't pay them. Steam has many flaws, but I believe the world is better with them than without them.
