What on Earth are you on about? Trump deserves to be tried for his crimes, and George Floyd should also have been tried in a court to see if he was guilty of committing any crimes. Only Floyd was executed in the street before he could be tried for anything, and Trump is still barely facing any consequences for his life of documented crimes.

Only on Reddit: posting about US voting against making food a universal right every year, and the top comments justifying it

Lots of cringeworthy American exceptionalism and nationalism in that thread. I especially like this one:

It doesn't, all of these countries have different definitions on what "Rights" are, most of their constitutions don't even define a right in the context of a divine power as the United States does, most countries actually believe its the government's job to assign what rights its people are allowed.

It takes an impressive amount of baseless self confidence to speak with such certainty, yet with such ignorance, not only about other countries but your own country as well.

Argentina election: front runner vows to slash science funding

Reply in thread

This guy is the only candidate who actually has a very detailed plan on how he can end Argentina’s fiscal deficit, which has been prevalent for over 100 years and has caused 20 of our 22 economic crises.

It seems extremely naive and dangerous to trust that the crazy anti-science right wing populist actually having a working plan for anything, much less ending a national deficit.

Johnson: We're Not A Democracy, We're A "Biblical" Republic And Separation Of Church And State Isn't Real

Reply in thread

No, republic just means that the role of head of state isn't hereditary. Lots of dictatorships are republics, some democracies are as well. The actual political system of the USA is representative democracy (in theory at least).

The fact that these terms are so muddled in the minds of the average American is completely deliberate, because it makes it so much easier for them to subvert US democracy when people have been told that the US is not one.

Trump Shares Article Doxxing NY AG’s Address, May Violate Gag Order

Reply in thread

I’m pretty sure he has a dedicated lawyer checking his statements for gag order violations and if the lawyer can’t directly say if it’s a gag order he goes ahead with it.

I don't share your certainty on that at all. Trump doesn't exactly employ the most qualified lawyers anymore, especially since he has a long history of not paying them and being complicit in sending them to jail. Also he would never let a lawyer hinder his impulse shitposting.

Tankie trolls. The equivalent of The_Donald in behaviour and toxicity, with an MO of deliberate brigading and trolling, especially on smaller instances.

They are a net negative to the entire concept of lemmy.
