If you get convinced than your opinion changed and you now have a new opinion of your own.

How do you reply to people saying "i have nothing to hide?"
They don't think they have anything to hide because they think of it as "evil activity"
Reframe it, like sure you are not doing anything bad but these companies don't care about criminal or evil behaviour. For them you are like livestock you only serve one purpose: making them money, there are no morals involved. They would sell your data to absolutely anyone for any reason! YOU can't think of anything bad they could do with your data because YOU are not evil but THEY absolutely are. If an evil person wants your data you shouldn't give it to them because they WILL find a way to use it against us, its a law of nature just like gravity.

The ads, the tracking, the eavesdropping
When you say "Solution" your endgoal would have to be that the ad creep ends and this isn't done through personal consumption fir various reasons.
I start by telling you i am already participating in ethical consumption for decades you know what changed? Nothing.
I could go on and on but the main problem is that you would need a critical amount of people doing the same as you and they will not people will take the easiest way and you can be mad about it but you shouldn't blame them. The crux of the issue is how the economy works. We need regulation that forces companies to act responsible anything else is doomed to fail. I am not saying don't consume ethical where you can but if you want to really have an impact you need to focus on politics.

I am very sorry to tell you but no, people will not stop contributing once they know.
Personal responsibility is a brainwashing tactic from big corp to blame yourself and your neighbour for systematic Problems they created. Don't fall for it.

I think we should put the blame where it belongs. Insta and all other plattforms have massive amounts of power and reach. They make more money from their users than the other way around. Its also not just artists livlyhoods on the line. With that level of power we need to inforce respinsibillity as well.
Your plan does simply not work. Just like you are not comsuming solely ethical products so does everyone else. "personal responsibility" IS what these companies want you to believe the solution is when we KNOW it is not.
There will not be enough people leaving to make a difference IF enough people would leave to theoretically make a differnce than the new place gets either sold to the bigger company OR sued OR banned since they are basically our politicians bosses. You can't fight these things with "personal choices"
We should always stand with the people with us in the mud and demand responsibillity from those who have actual power. Just assume that everybidy in your class is doing their best and will probably be more deserving of your support. They want you to blame the creators don't help them.

Its not on us to "forgive" her. I don't know why people feel like they personally got victimized by her. From all accounts she was a loving mother, the people that actually knew and loved the kids are supporting her bc they are certain she must have been insane at the time.
She should have a chance of getting out when sane since there is no reason to keep someone when not a danger anymore. I don't really get off on punishing people, i only tolerate it as long as it serves a purpose.

Okay you have to understad that we are trying to have a civilisation here.
Your point of view is not consistent.
If you want a murderer punished like you would a "rabid animal" because we are just animals and don't need further understanding than there is no reason to object murder in general.

Oh... I forgot 24/7 surveillance!!!
I don't really see a problem with most of it, 2fa is obviously a good thing and necessary bc people just don't use strong enough passwords.
Being able to do government stuff at my own home is great too.
Most of these things are for convinience.
I see a problem if there is no alternative way to pay for things in cash.
Surveillance is a different beast alltogether but this comes down to legislation. Countries managed to cut down freedom without any mobile phones at all. This is what we need to focus on not on mildly annoying tech.

Union smarts

Where i am from (austria)if you work in an unionised sector you are part of the union, no matter which job title. You can get a payed membership with extra benefits but the union is doing the things they are supposed to do for every worker in that sector/industry. You are practically a member no matter what. There is one collective contract for an industry (metalworkers for an example) companies can give you a better contract but not worse. Industries that don't have a union have to use the contract that resembles their industry the most. In theory we do not have a set minimumwage but in practice your not getting easily away with not paying a living wage for very long.
We are also forced to pay a fraction of our income to "Arbeiterkammer" which will help any working person with work related problems like providing an attorney free of charge. Managers have to oay and use it just like anyone else.
Very weird that this isn't allowed where you are.

There is no evidence. What we know is that generally, throwing money at poor people will have positive effects, thats it.
We have no idea how prices will react, we have no idea how culture around work might change when people grow up with such a system, we have no idea how employment will change and we have no idea what people will actually use their freedom for.
I am personally in favor of some kind of UBI but not because i believe without a doubt in its positive effects but i believe that the world belongs to all of us and simply being born entitles you to parts of the "fruits of the land" and if UBI really doesn't work out i guess we might just deserve our fate.

The 4-day workweek: How one Ohio manufacturer is making it work
Reply in thread
You are creating a strawman. Nobody says pay me for being cool.
I produce value, in fact we are more productive than ever and are generating more wealth than ever. We do this as a collective not everyone can or wants to have their own company. This wealth needs to be shared fairly. Our goal should be using more and more efficient work to benefit the company AND the worker. You never get your lifetime back.
Without workers putting their lifetime in we wouldn't have an economy with this mich output. They are entitled to a better life because of it. The economy has to serve us, the majority, the people that give away most of their lifetime to make it possible not a tiny minority.
P.s. I own part of a company, i would be ecstatic about government issued 30 h workweek. We can't do it on our own since we don't produce anything, we would just loose to our competition but if everyone had to do it there is no problem here since everyone would have to raise their prices. I want my workers to have the best life i can possibly give them anything else is just evil.

They punch left to protect and defend the right
This infighting is very dissapointing and counterproductive.
I don't really understand why we can't give each other a little bit of grace. It sounds like everyone believes the "other side" is downright evil which begs the question what are we even fighting for ?
There is no perfect not even a good choice to make here. On the one hand republicans are extremly dangerous and everything they fuck up can't be easily repaired, you still suffer from the policychoices under reagan but on the other hand democrats are very complicit but they at least give room for positive development.
I can't be mad at people not feeling great about electing someone that supports israel but Palestians are probably worse off now than they would be under kamala but than again how can we expect the party to change when they get votes simply for being not as bad.
We should focus on the real problem which is a antidemocratic voting system. You can be as mad as you want about your countrymen and the democratic party but as long as you don't have a real choice and megadonors the problems will remain, the most important part is to rally as many people as you can behind a shared believe not necessarily convince them to share all of yours.
I almost never see discussions about how to actually make your country a democracy, only infighting. In theory it would be relativly simple to impliment these changes, practically it is obviously complicated and an uphill battle but it is certainly more practical and unifying than shitting on each other.
