Why does everyone put celery in soup stock?
Reply in thread
Yep, exactly. If it's palpably in the dish then it wasn't chopped finely enough or cooked long enough.

I would say unless you have a specific problem that is fixed by the new firmware I would keep your system the way it is.

Newborns fucking suck, actually
Yup. The only good thing about that phase is the end. I can only assume the people who enjoy it are either A) Fundamentally built different, or B) Lucked out and had easy babies.

While I agree with you, I think it's a bit unkind to reply in this way. Sometimes bash is all you have, and it's interesting to learn about tools even if you're unlikely to use them.

90% of "bikeways" in Brisbane are shared paths/footpaths
Good detective work, I appreciate it! Bike infrastructure in Brisbane is a joke. Plenty of "bike lanes" that run for three blocks and are disconnected from any other suitable paths.

Love to see it. More first-party support for HASS.

Anyone using a FOSS-friendly robot vacuum?
I put valetudo on my Roborock s8 and blocked its access to the internet at my router. Works perfectly and integrates well with home assistant.

[ On | No ] syntactic support for error handling
I liked the thorough explanation of the decision process, but I think universal approval is a paralysing requirement. This risks stagnation.

I think it still looks awesome though. Please post the final result when you're done!

Limits of smart
I think the biggest improvement in output compared to baseline humans would stem from synthesis between fields. At best a human can become a turbo-expert in a single field of study, maybe two if they're truly exceptional.
Being an expert in everything would let The Being see links between fields invisible to normal folk.
Imagine a master sculptor who's also an incredible portrait artist. Bam! Photorealistic sculptures!
It's not hard to imagine a field of maths linking closely with biology to produce statistical models for cell propagation. Multidisciplinary teams can achieve great things, but imagine that team is inside a single skull.

Household battery storage surges as plunging solar tariffs improve the economics
We had a big solar array and oversized battery installed about a year ago. I have custom control logic setup that lets me discharge the battery to the grid when the electricity price spikes at night. We are on a electricity retailer that provides real-time pricing. This system means we draw nearly zero power from the grid, nearly zero demand charges, and usually earn about $3 to $5 a day selling at night. About once every 2 months there is a huge price spike and we earn $20 to $80 during the night which is a nice cherry on the top.
On cloudy days my logic charges the battery from the grid when power is cheap so we don't draw power at night when it's expensive.
