That's actually what I think of as how the open source works. It's not that millions of people are working for you to have things all the time. It's just that instead of making something and letting it be lost in some hard drive they share it. If something has enough interest, use value, and passion from the creator then the work will continue.

Some programs with heavy industry use, or a passionate user base will be successful, but even the niche small programs are there so if someone wants to continue the work they can.

Vs the same little programs from companies that are not open source will be just lost, you can't get the source and continue even if you want to. Even they will discard the source, or the guy that worked on it will be gone and noone knows anything.

So appreciate open source, even if it doesn't work for all the cases, it is better because it can continue, the effort isn't lost. Open source licenses don't promise future maintenance, they are just available as they are

I honestly think this is one of the reasons AI is so popular with people. We didn't notice because we have been using ddg, and adblocks. But searching for things in google, and finding any decent sites that's related and not shoving down ads all over the screen is hard to find.

Then people found something where they just search/ask things and get answers without any of the hassle. If you don't care about the source, or want to check multiple views then you have what you want. Specially because I think lot of people seem to use google to just find what they already have bias towards.

The reality where people cannot afford $10-20 things. And the corporations just start charging those poor people interest.

So why are mothers expected to just figure things out on their own? We humans have women living way past fertile age because they were important for children, and suddenly we decided we don't need grandma's help passing along generational knowledge and helping first time mothers. Grandma/Grandpa are supposed to be free and focus on helping the parents so they learn and don't make mistakes because they don't know anything.

And community too. It's so isolated. Makes me sad, and afraid to have children.

So anyone has a good suggestion for countries that accept people with PhDs are are nice to different race of people (I have a mixed family). Lots of countries are starting to lean right so I'm a bit scared moving somewhere where I don't understand the native language since I saw how immigrants in US (and even people in their home country) like trump because they don't get the whole picture and only know news through multiple transfers and biases.

Even if the current administration goes back to what it was I feel like the attack on science and overall direction of the people's thoughts aren't going to change overnight and it might be hard living as a scientist.

People knew. Then everything started being "i need people to work in my factory/office doing the same thing again and again" and everyone had to be the same.

Edit: Think of all the advancement in science from people that were not "normal", now they'd have just failed basic school and never had any chances to do academia. I think Einstein failed history and other subjects in a college entrance but excelled in physics and math.

This is one my comment talking point. When people have to think about "can I afford this?" anytime they need to goto the doctor, then they'll only go when it's serious. But they are not qualified medical professionals to decide what needs medical attention or not. So they seek advice from other people, past experiences and Internet and we have this problem.

Honestly, it shouldn't cost that much to just goto a doctor's office and return. We don't need MD for everything, have other professional people there that are qualified enough to tell you when something doesn't need attention, or simple solutions. Maybe just cleaning a scrap, or giving you a brace for minor sprain, all those without having to see MD.

Then you start saying you can't complete things, ask them which one is the priority. And actually not do everything.

I witnessed an interaction where a grad school professor used AI detector and threatened to fail a student for submitting "AI generated" paper. It was so stupid, even after showing them how if you just add a few spelling mistakes the detection says human written, or even putting their own email in AI detector to show an example. It's like the saying "little knowledge is dangerous"

You can use your library for commercial projects that you have. Just have dual license that requires payment for commercial use or something similar. You don't have to pay yourself

On the other hand I think he's lucky. He has enough media coverage and people know him. He is under the watchful eyes of many. Anyone else that was in the exact same situation as him without the media making it a big deal like this, would not have made it back. When someone uses his example, all I can think is, you can't expect people to be lucky as he was.

This was my logic. The type of girl I'm into, I'll not meet because of this logical fallacy. I was beyond lucky, the probability were so low, yet I found her.

I was on a car from ride sharing app recently, and there was a tablet in front of me playing ads continuously for the whole ride. Asked the driver to turn it off and he said, "I have to keep it on". I know it's not the requirement from the app, so honestly how dystopian is it?

The way things are going people can't afford anything and will have ads blasting in front of them for discounts.

I support this if it applies to everyone, not just AI. We should be able to use everything that we see as well
