Steam alternatives?
Its not Foss, but gog.com is based in Europe. It offers DRM free games. Lots of old games, but also tons of new games as well.

Baldur's Gate 3 dev calls Randy Pitchford's $80 Borderlands 4 comments "gross" because it implies the FPS is more important than "making it day to day"
I haven't bought full price games in ages. Games are always released half finished now. Wait six months to a year until it goes on sale and they actually finish the game.

I didn't realize how truely frustrated I was with windows until I switched a few months ago. I realize now that most of my recent windows troubleshooting was trying to make windows stop doing things I didn't want it to. Now most of my Linux troubleshooting is just learning how to get Linux to do things I actually want it to do, which is actually quite satisfying.

Trill Symbiont Lifespans
I really like this take. I did get the impression that Dax is also kinda the wild child of the symbiotes too, for many of the reasons you listed. They are also very passionate about their friends. They chose to uphold a blood oath that even the Klingons didn't consider binding, they stood by Sisko for 3 lifetimes, they refused to break the confidence of one of Curzon's married lovers, at the risk of their life, and they protected Jake's book, for many centuries. They hold onto these generational bonds, even though its taboo for the Trill.

I'm starting to like the Venari Ral quite a bit actually. They seem to be more like actual mustache twirling pirates rather than a tyranical government masquerading as pirates like the chain was. I'm waiting for Calebs mom to be re-introduced as his right hand in the finale.

Obsidian's The Outer Worlds 2 Underperformed, and There Won't Be a Third - IGN
Reply in thread
AAA games are just too expensive and many are just not finished at release now. I'm not forking out top dollar for a half finished game. Outer Worlds 2 is still $89.99 CAD. That is absolutely insane in my opinion. I enjoyed the first one, but I also bought it on sale. Indy games nowadays are generally a better bang for your buck anyways and theyre only $30-40 regular price and they are also generally at a finished state or at the very least very honest about the state they are in.
I'll probably pick the game up in 2 years when its $20 on Steam or something.

I don't know about other people, but I can barely smoke a whole joint in one sitting in a day. My wife on the other hand can smoke half a pack of cigarettes a day. I don't really know many other people that smoke weed though. I actually smoke less now that I ran out of my home grown stuff I grew last year. The commercial stuff in Canada is way too strong for me.

This was most definitely my least favourite. Why show what Kionians look like in episode 1 when you're just going to make them all look human in episode 7. Just seems lazy to me.
Genesis and Caleb's story was better, but seemed out of character for Genesis. I also disliked the suggestion that men & women can't be friends without falling in love with each other.

The 2026 Linux Summer Games - Dankpods compares performance in games across Windows and Linux on 12 machines
I understand why he did it that way, but I completely disagree with the assessment that was all an end user should do after installing a fresh is on a new PC. Whenever I start up a fresh install of Windows or Linux I always make sure everything is working properly before I really do anything else. Is my GPU working properly, is my printer working, can I hear sound, etc. I just assumed that was standard.

'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' Producers Promise Season 4 Will Be Better

This is the problem with modern TV shows. We only have 10 episode seasons now vs the 20+ long ones from the TNG era. If these were all episodes in a season that lasted 20 episodes I doubt we would be seeing as many complaints, but as it is 10 episodes does not leave much room for any change of pace mid season. This season, while in my opinion was quite well written, was a little all over the place and didn't really seem to have a lot of direction. It really bounced around a lot, which wouldn't be a problem as much if there was 20 episodes to work with, but when you only have 10 its hard to justify some of the "fun" or experimental episodes.
As an aside. My least favourite episode "This is Starfleet" was also my favourite story in the season and if it was shot as a normal episode I think would have probably be my favourite of the series so far. It really captured the "Classic Trek" vibe for me.

I've only used KDE until recently because it's pretty familiar feeling after coming from windows, but my wife recently put gnome on her laptop and she loves it. I've used it a bit, and besides just being unfamiliar I do actually like it.

I had some concerns going in, but enjoyed them a lot more than I expected. Good to see some familiar faces, especially Vance as he was one of the better Disco s3 additions.

Ottawa, Alberta’s ‘pipe dream’ faces surge of resistance in BC
This whole thing seems like its just a charade to deflect Albertans spite away from the Feds and instead towards BC, because everybody involved has to know that cutting BC out of any pipeline deal was a terrible way to get BC onboard a pipeline through BC. Even people who wouldn't normally care seem to be pissed off about this.

I feel like this could have been a great episode, if it wasn't a documentary and was just written as a normal episode. Most of the quirks of the documentary really distracted me and I felt like they got in the way a bit.

The day I have to watch ads is the same day I stop youtube. So far ad blocks seem to work well for now and I'm more than willing to spend hours getting them working if needed.

I found four and a half vulcans the weakest episode in my opinion, but a friend of mine loved the episode. My biggest problem with the episode, other than why was it really necessary, was actually pointed out by Kirk in the episode. They didn't actually even act like Vulcans they were just dicks, Pike especially was uncharacteristically rude and would have never treated anyone the way he treated Spock in the episode.
Most of the season scored between 5-7/10 for me. Terrarium was an 8.5, Vulcans was a 4, This is Starfleet was a 3, but if it was filmed differently could have been so much better. I really this that This is Starfleet had one of the better stories and checks a lot of "Classic Trek" boxes for me.

PS6 and next Xbox console are both aiming for 2027 release, separate reports claim | VGC
Man, I was soooo excited about the PS5, but then it turned into such a shit show to get one that I just put my money into my PC and I never even got around to picking one up when availability became more reasonable. I don't think I'd ever really want to get back into the console gaming space anymore.

"Game preservation only works if people care" As GOG doubles down on its commitment to saving old games, it's asking players "who give a s**t" to support its crusade
Reply in thread
Gog has been my preference for a few years now, but there's no way I'm subscribing to a patreon that gets me literally nothing. I honestly assumed at first you'd get something out of it at first, like a free game from the preservation program every month or something similar to Amazon Prime's giveaways. Its honestly cause me to start to re evaluate how much I purchase from them. Its kinda skeezy.

I very much enjoyed this one. I've always loved Klingon culture and Worf was always my favourite main cast member. In TNG/DS9 we often saw a juxtaposition between Klingon honour and victory/power at any cost that often took over. I really found it heartening that Klingons post burn are willing to risk extinction for their culture when 800 years ago many wouldn't think twice to using dishonourable means to get a seat on the council.
