Nah, I'm good.
I used to say PC + Nintendo, but Switch 2 looks like enshittification caught up with Nintendo.
So just PC now.
Steam Deck ftw
I can play my steam games I bought over a decade ago on any hardware. Its awesome. I just got hadies 2 as well and it works flawlessly on the SD.
And that's just steam. I just don't see buying an Xbox/PSehatever/switch5000. Most games come out for everything now. Who cares?
I still have stuff as far back as DOS and Win9x titles on my shelves. Sure I have to use virtual machines and emulators these days since I'm not willing to buy or hold onto old hardware but I'm still able to do this on modern PC which is the main point: freedom.
I only care about exclusives anymore which is an artificial value yep.
There are some exceptions like PS2 was my DVD movje player and PS3 was Bluray movie player and what I used Universal Media Server with back then streaming from my PC. Not just the games, but there were games too. Plus weird stuff on PSN like Trash Panic or Tokyo Jungle.
Also I refuse to pay for online play and I stuck to it.
I would have disagreed a month ago but Sonic Racing has removed my biggest reason to consider getting a Switch 2. PC really has it all. Blessed.
At the very least, the console cycles are a good indicator of when it makes sense to build a new PC.
the ps5 just came out, what do you mean
Right? It only has 3 games and they're already talking about a new one? They should give it a few years at least before giving up.
Are we over the chip shortage, what year is it!
Even if I was in the market the way they manufacturer & sell them you won't get one for list price for the first year or two
Sony spent this entire generation making live service games are were DOA or failed after years of development.
People generally buy Sony consoles for their single player exclusives. It seems like that is not a factor to consider for their next console.
I’m not interested in PS6. I’m more interested in building a Steambox to avoid Windows 11.
It's a night and day difference compared to Nvidia.
Nvidia is not going to give a crap until the
money launderingAI bubble pops.I like the cut of your jib, pal.
I’m just an old fart. There are dozens of us.
The best situation for consumers is for games to come out on as many platforms as possible. Exclusives are cancer. It's awesome to see less and less of them every generation.
Didn't Microsoft buy up a shitton of studios- killing some of them? I wouldn't consider exclusives a good indicator of health necessarily.
Yes they did:
FASA
Digital anvil
Lionhead
Ensemble Studios
...
Too early. It doesn’t even feel like the current generation has really established. Just got the PS5 Pro, and don’t think it’s such a big improvement over the base model. PS6? - na thanks!
Not that the PS5 was a major upgrade to the PS4. Sure it can produce some better graphics, but the UI is such a downgrade.
I'll never understand why they made an option to silence the beep at startup, but they push the boot up and login music through the TV when headphones are connected to a controller. That's so much more annoying and last so much longer when you're trying not to disturb other people in the room.
Nothing is better than the xmb on ps3. I hate the new UIs.
The one thing that the PS5 brings to this generation is blazing fast loading times. PS3 and PS4 games that load often are unbearable.
The UI is complete shit.
XBM is the best for a TV media box like a game console but corporate trends dictate mandatory enshitification because customers are stupid shit-for-brains idiots that must be advertised to at every possible opportunity or they will read The Communist Manifesto and start a consumer revolt. /s
I never had any long load times on my PS4, usually only about 5-10 seconds. However, I think the 5-10 minute load times for PS2, even when just changing areas in a game made me a lot more patient for Playstation games.
I remember avoiding the save feature on Star Wars Battlefront due to the long time it took to save and hours spent on the PS2 Harry Potter games. Walking through a door would trigger a 5-10 minute wait period and you couldn't necessarily use that as a bathroom break, because you didn't want to miss a cutscene.
Try playing any fighting game on PS4. 50%-60% is loading screens.
I didn't think it was that crazy either, until I booted my old ps4 up about a year later, and im sorry, but it made me appreciate how fast the ps5 is. It really is slow, and once you're used to it, it was very hard to go back, haha.
You can change the default audio device through settings. I set mine to headphones, so it just starts through it, and if I needed to switch, i do it through the menu.
I have it set to automatically change to headphones when they're plugged in and for all audio to go through headphones when they're plugged in, however the startup music and log in screen music still play through the TV. After logging into a profile, it'll switch over to headphones for all audio.
I've even left my headphones plugged into the controller after manually choosing headphones for all audio and then turning the PS5 off and on again and it pushes startup and login screen music through the TV.
Big mistake. They barely have games for the current gen.
But why? They are barely supporting the current hardware.
investors want new product. lack of new product is 'stagnation'.
Gotta get those stock buybacks to raise the "value"!
whenever i buy a new game i tell myself I'm investing in myself.
I'm guessing the cash cow needs some milking. Especially with new lucrative technology lurking around the corner. "Milk before it's overdue"
Better bet your ass that Copilot will be on whatever M$ decides to push out.
Too soon. I still haven’t got a PS5 yet.
So... The PS5 pro lasted for a while huh.
Three years or so.
Only 1 less year than the ps4 pro. It's not really that bad. I don't own it, but I don't mind that it exists. If it was cheaper and I had a better tv that took advantage of its features, maybe I would have swapped for it.
And then not release a single game built for or exclusive to it until 2035. Hard pass.
They should release consoles when there's a significant leap in hardware that devs are waiting to take advantage of. The last few console releases have been boring. Don't get me started on not only the lack of games but the lack of new types of games. Too many remakes and remasters demanding high prices.
We've got tons of new types of games that have emerged over the years, but they sprout up at different levels of system requirements. The games that need the new hardware are the ones with the largest development budgets.
I think I've turned my PS5 on maybe 30 times since I got it. They just hasn't been anything released for it that I've been interested in basically it's not been anything released for it.
I bought a 3070 and a pair of 1440 gaming monitors, maybe $1000 total, and I feel like an asshole not having time to play my favorite games.
Mine has seen some use.. but its nowhere near what I was expecting when I bought it. I own it for the exclusives and while I did enjoy them (GT7, Ragnarok, Spider Man 2, Astro Bot, Death Stranding 2), I also think I could have done without them and waited for the eventual PC release. I hope Intergalactic (Naughty Dog) remedies my feeling towards the console, but so far, nothing it's seen has been generation defining.
Most probably skipping consoles after this gen.
Ghost of Yotei has been a banger so far. Otherwise, I haven't even plugged it in for over 2 years.
sometimes it feels like the world is kinda moving off consoles for being too restrictive. and I wonder if there will be a future where these two companies just keep making consoles to fight each other while not selling any.
just two giant, hot black chunks of plastic locked in an eternal battle of corporate obliviousness for all eternity.
edit: this comment was meant as a funny and not a serious.
...
The PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 are both ridiculously successful.
it wasn't meant to be taken seriously.
edit ....really? guys take it easy jeez.
Nothing funnier than a statement with no basis in reality, I guess?
The joke didn’t work, move on. It’s not like they insulted anyone.
you don't have to take every single thing a person says as gospel, man. this isn't reddit. we can just have a conversation without everything being an argument.
https://cordcuttersnews.com/playstation-5-shatters-sales-records-with-74-9-million-units-sold/
While it might not feel like anyone cares about consoles, they are still selling a lot of them.
I just wonder what customer satisfaction is. You can get a fool to waste their money only so many times. Buyers Remorse was the PS4 for me.
What even happened in this generation? There was nothing that separated it lmao. Realistically the only thing the next gen can add over this is full ray tracing from ground up, even something like frame gen would be proper embarrassing because a console is supposed to have all graphics baked in.
If MS goes Windows on Xbox then that might genuinely be the way forward atp
slaps a sale sticker on his PS5
"was I a good paperweight?"
no
I have no interest with the way the industry's going. Not to mention it will probably cost $700 or more.
I wonder how much they’re paying Rockstar to delay The Only New Release of that generation; which will doubtless be available on PS5/XSX anyway.
At this point I‘m going to assume they‘ll both essentially be handheld PCs. It‘s the only device I could even imagine a market for in 2 years.
Man, I was soooo excited about the PS5, but then it turned into such a shit show to get one that I just put my money into my PC and I never even got around to picking one up when availability became more reasonable. I don't think I'd ever really want to get back into the console gaming space anymore.
Although I had the same experience, I was finally able to get one after a few months. I was very happy I got one over building a PC because at the time PC GPUs were ridiculous amounts of money, and I felt the PS5 was a great deal over the PC. I ended up building a new one in 2023 a few months after prices started falling a bit finally and thought it worked out perfectly.
I still use my PS5 more than my PC just because it sits in our main room and has the nicer TV screen. Everything has its use. If anything, I am always disappointed. I built such a nice PC and haven't used it as much as I would have liked by now.
Good luck with the tarriffs...
The last time a console generation lined up with a giant economic crisis we got the Kinect and PlayStation Move instead and a proper console release was delayed until 2013.
I could see this being pushed to 2030, easy, if it happens at all.
It will just be a PS5 with a sticker on it and $500 more.

Nah, this is about where the last two console cycles would release new hardware. It's the confluence of a lot of things at work here.
It just feels really early since covid fucked us out of a proper world for a while. Massive supply issues meant devs were forced to cater for the previous generation too. They've only really just got started pushing what this gen is capable of.
I got the Series S (the weaker xbox) and already it cant handle the new games. I mean it can, but the framerate suffers and it makes me nauseous when I turn the camera. Makes some beautiful screenshots, just cant actually play them.
I can't believe it's already been almost 6 years.
Needs ai processor
The hardware potential was reached on day one. Everything looks a little bit nicer than PS4 but games need to push ray tracing which is beyond what the system was designed for.
I think it’s capable of doing ray tracing but it is not particularly good at it.
Had the same gut reaction but then realized it’s basically only 1 year ahead of schedule. It REALLY doesn’t feel like the PS5 has been out for 5 years now.
I only got a ps5 two years ago and I'm set with games for years. I'm still working through PS4 games I never got round to. The idea of a new playstation at this point, particularly after the chip shortage debacle, seems absolutely absurd.
Already? Before even the 5th game launched?
breaking news! new console to come out at the end of current generation.
