Maybe 0,00001% of the user base will. People don’t care, us nerds need to come to term with this

Reddit users who switched to Lemmy, what is the most annoying thing you have seen about Lemmy users?
I’m annoyed by all those Facebook-type boomer comics you see on basically all meme subs. Reddit culture managed to get rid of them, but for some reason people here seem to love them

Yeah, I feel like it’s one of the best current logos. It’s simplified but not oversimplified and it looks really good.

Bees don't have lungs.
Reply in thread
No because you’re likely too big (no offense) :(
I think insects have little holes all over their bodies, in which air gets inside by itself through some physics shenanigans. It doesn’t need to be actively sucked in like with lungs, it just happens because they’re so small.
This method doesn’t scale up though since if you’re bigger, you need more air, and having little holes all over your body won’t cut it. Thats when you know you need lungs, and that’s why you don’t see insects the size of a dog these days (thankfully).
There used to be times in the Earth’s history (Carboniferous) where the air’s composition was different though, and since it had more oxygen in it, insects could grow a lot larger.

Google is embedding inaudible watermarks right into its AI generated music
Reply in thread
I think I’d rather listen to some custom AI generated music than the same royalty free music over and over again.
In both cases they’re just meant to be used in videos and stuff like that, you’re not supposed to actually listen to them.

Apple keeps flogging 8GB of RAM for its Mac computers but it's still a dead horse
Reply in thread
To be fair I had an 8Gb M1 Mac mini for about a year and never even once felt like it was lacking memory. I could open as many things as I wanted and it didn’t slow down, so I can kinda see where they were going with this. Not saying it makes that situation much better though.
I think the current base iPhones with 4Gb or 6Gb suffer way more from lack of memory than the 8Gb Macs, and people aren’t taking about this enough.

Just buy used. You get all the goodies without supporting their shitty practices, while not even having to deal with the ethics of piracy. It’s all win.

Proton releases Proton Sentinel, a high-security program to secure accounts
I feel like Proton is launching too many things at the same time. I wish they’d improve what already exists first (mainly thinking about Proton Drive and Pass here, but there are probably other things as well).

Do people just not use the YouTube subscription feed?
Reply in thread
I started with subscriptions and now I like both methods, they’re complementary. The algorithm is really good at suggesting either random stuff I like or new stuff I might like. And I subscribe for stuff I know I’ll want to watch no matter what. Works pretty well!

Even in Europe, they’re not really popular. Plus Renault decided they won’t be making a next generation Twingo (which shares its platform with the current Smart car).
Always thought this was a really weird decision since it’s an extremely popular car here in France, but apparently it doesn’t make them enough money.

Telegram announces to share its 50% ad-revenue with channel owners.
Reply in thread
I’ve been a heavy Telegram user since around 2016. I’d say the main thing I love about it is their focus on user experience. Everything is always super fast, looks nice and feels smooth. They’re often pushing new features which is always cool to see.
Plus their iOS/macOS apps look native and aren’t web-based, so it’s a great replacement for iMessage.
At this point I’ve converted my whole family and friends and they all love it too!

US iPhone market share jumps to 55% as Android shipments fall
As much as I like my iPhone, I hate where this is going. Monopolies are always bad for the consumers, especially with companies as focused on control as Apple.

I’m French and I can still relate to this meme immensely. Even with basically free healthcare, depression makes it so asking for medical help (and doing everything they need you to do to be able to help you) requires a ridiculous amount of energy and motivation.
Can’t imagine if I had to pay thousands of dollars on top of that :(
