Head of Germany’s far-right AfD condemns ‘theatrics’ over Navalny’s death, says widow Yulia Navalnaya at the Munich Security Conference had been “stage managed”
The German fascist party AfD is largely bankrolled by Putin. Go figure.

BTW for the uninitiated: That's the actual quote from the former federal drug officer. No joke - we wished it was.

Maybe it's that homophobia and transphobia are so dominant on more popular platforms that there is a natural migration towards more free and liberal platforms. I always wondered why you see more and more racism, hate and such degeneracy the larger a platform becomes.

Fact checking: Social media users are claiming the West broke a 1990 treaty undertaking not to expand the NATO security alliance closer to Russia’s borders. It's false.
Reply in thread
Also, NATO did not "expand its territories". Sovereign countries that saw the Russian aggression seeked membership to be protected.

People are forgetting an important lesson

Yeah, same as wood, who would build houses out of that? /s
Hay is great insulation and it's sealed with protective material anyway in modern houses. Also, even if not: Some tribes make houses out of hay or straw and those houses are quite great in their particular circumstances. There are experiments to use hay bales for structural support as well and it holds up surprisingly well.
Also, fun fact: wooden houses are less dangerous in case of fire than houses made of steel and concrete because the steel rod reinforcements start becoming soft at low temperatures (~200°C) and crash. Wooden houses announce crashing when burning, concrete buildings don't.

Trump keeps praising dictators like Hitler and Kim Jong Un. Will Republicans ever care?
Reply in thread
It seems like they don't back Trump despite him being a fascist, they back Trump because he is a fascist.

Thank you! Finally someone speaks out, too. Singapore is a totalitarian capitalist dictatorship and the closest thing we have to a true cyberpunk dystopia. It is a horrible place with clean sidewalks.

Proton giving more to the free plans
Reply in thread
Unlimited for seven or so years now, never regretted it in the slightest. I feel like they throw some bonus to you whenever they can - under promise, over deliver. I've been burned a lot by companies that became evil over time, hence I'm careful with praise but so far Proton has been one of the most pleasant customer experiences I had.

UN report says world is racing to well past warming limit as carbon emissions rise instead of plunge
Reply in thread
But I drive my car less, that should do it! /s
This is the reason we're should focus out efforts to make a ruckus and force decision makers to enforce carbon neutrality BY NEXT YEAR instead of by next century. Of course that won't happen but that would be the reasonable way.

Targeting the Teacher
Reply in thread
While I agree that gun control is a good thing I strongly doubt it will eliminate the issue as it's only addressing the symptom, not the cause. Free healthcare, fair education and equal rights to achieve something in life are far more important triggers. Of course those require much deeper adjustments to the system and society as a whole.

Reply in thread

In my experience, gaming in Linux works even better than on Windows. Every game I installed so far was supported by proton.
The main thing holding Linux back is professional software I think. If Photoshop and the likes are supported better, a lot of people will switch and find out that they also can play games on Linux.
