I once helped my parents with a few minor things on one of their computers. Two weeks later I get a call... They have no internet on any of their devices. Obviously since I was the last one to work on their stuff I was the cause of the internet issue. While on the phone I hear my dad's weather radio go off and my phone dings with a severe weather warning for their area.
I ask if they are currently experiencing any bad weather... And they confirm that they have a very nasty thunderstorm and a confirmed tornado on the ground a few miles outside of the town... And they have no power.
I just hung up...

While that is true... There is still a ton of high school bullshit going on, especially in workplaces.
All the same drama and gossip... I'm so glad I don't work in an office anymore.

TIL The Katy Freeway in Houston, TX was expanded in 2008 to 26 lanes (one of the widest in the world) and 5 years later had longer peak travel times than before the expansion

You don't really... You exit and follow the service road until you find a way to get across, usually by going under.
I hate driving in Texas because this kind of shit is everywhere. Middle of nowhere and want to get to the rest area ahead? Exit and follow the service road for a mile.

I had one where yes everything was plugged in but... The power strips never plugged into the wall... They were just plugged into each other.
That one turned out to be an annoying bit of cable management that I wouldn't have had to do if they would have just left things alone and let me handle the original ticket

It's been tried. A huge percentage of the internet runs on Amazon web services... And a massive ddos attack on that barely bumped it beyond the level of holiday shopping.
To get anywhere on "taking down the internet" they'd probably have to physically take out many sites across the globe.

"How am I supposed to explain this to my children?!"

I've found with my kids "I don't really know, how about we look it up together" is very effective.

Clean energy could be 'closer than ever' after a nuclear fusion machine smashed a record

IIRC, this is a big deal because they are achieving more energy out than they put in.
If I've been reading these correctly they are achieving it with tiny amounts of fuel and slowly working up as they achieve success. I'm seeing these as proof of concept and fantastic steps in the right direction.

I'm not sure why you got downvotes... You're correct. Some of the pills do absolutely affect arousal and libido.

Well done steaks are fine as long as they aren't dry... This picture is of a piece of meat most of the way to jerky without anything that makes jerky good.

UnitedHealthcare CEO murder suspect Luigi Mangione suggests evidence ‘planted’ after arrest

I'm sure there is a lot more to the story but the dude was called in because he sort of resembled the pictures and a Karen min wage worker thought he was a little sus... Add in that she immediately tried to claim the reward.
Also, the sheer amount of damning evidence found on him is incredibly suspicious... That was all in his backpack... The day after they found the backpack in central park full of monopoly money. Absolutely nothing about this manhunt and suspect makes sense. Even accounting for social media misinformation this whole thing is almost too much satire to be real.

Add in that as a teacher she likely has student loans to pay on... At least until she can get through the system and get on the public service repayment option. I think they were trying to improve it but last time I tried to get on it the system was less than ideal to work with

This is why they changed their API policy the way they did. They wanted to sell it rather than let bots scrape it for free.

In fairness... Most of the "behind the scenes" are done in metric so we kind of did convert to metric. It's mostly just the public that is imperial still.

It looks like it is assuming paying for a mortgage and allowing like 20% for savings. They are definitely not looking at just a living wage, they are assuming home buyers that are actively saving money.
