Meet the AI vegans. They are refusing to use artificial intelligence for environmental, ethical and personal reasons
Abstaining from a thing does not make one a vegan. That's not how any of this works.

At first I thought this was unrealistic because the comedy portion was so bad. Then I realized it is probably about Joe Rogan, in which case this checks out.

Apocalypse
This was kind of how I felt when COVID was taking over the world. There was literally a pandemic where people were dying and our bosses were all scrambling to keep productivity up.
It's like dude, brad, our metrics aren't the most important thing right now.

AIPAC and Citizens United are actually frightening.

They are able to change the outcome of races with seemingly unlimited money. A spend of 8.4 million in a Missouri primary is absurd, and likely is a drop in the bucket of what is spent influencing the presidential race.
I don't think there is a way to fix this either, since the people that should be writing laws to prevent it are the ones benefiting the most.
I imagine this is also happening in Republican primaries, so one can't just vote differently to address the root cause. Both republicans and Democrats seem to be tripping over each other to prove what a friend they are to Israel. It's really weird and stressful to be a US citizen right now.

The problem is that companies like Intuit have resources/lobbyists and really want to maintain their position in the market.

Google’s Sergey Brin Says Engineers Should Work 60-Hour Weeks in Office to Build AI That Could Replace Them
My CEO is starting to get ideas. I work at a startup, and recently they have been floating 60-80 hour work weeks. So far it has been an idle threat and is really just their hail Mary play, but big players doing this shit is really worrying as far as normalizing it.
I'm more productive than ever, and the punishment seems to be piling on even more work in order to chase those short term profits.

I just need someone following me around to ask questions like "Are you sure deep cleaning the microwave is the most effective use of your time right now?"

That's how I treat them. Maybe with a bit more nuance: I'll upvote for something funny, informative things, or general good takes. I'll downvote if someone has a bad take, is unnecessarily mean, or is generally incoherent.
If the comment doesn't spark a reaction I just keep scrolling.

Finland: 'Automatic NATO Membership for Ukraine in Case of Future Russian Aggression'
Reply in thread
If they joined immediately, NATO would have to directly engage Russia now -- which would be bad, especially with the US being shitty right now.
If they predicate membership on a Russian attack it will defer and potentially remove that risk. Seems like a solid idea to me.
