Sad to see Reddit go

The biggest thing I'll miss isn't actually being on reddit but the fact that basically any time you needed to look up somthing you could just google it and add site:reddit.com and find some good threads about it.. it's been a valuable knowledge base.

On Politics and Forking

Sounds very reasonable to me.

On mostly subbed to Bewhaw communities with some Lemmy.world and one or two lemmy.ml so far and I haven't noticed ant nastiness anywhere else so far. If it would start becoming common I'd just cut ties with those communities or maybe even all communities from a specific instance if it's gone that far.

I'm hopeful that Beehaw will stay wholesome and probably most other instances as well.

It would be kind if neatto have the ability to personally block instances as well as communities in the future but so far it's not needed. Plus I'm sure our administration would cut ties with instances that manage to actually turn bad.

If anyone is really bothered by the creators of Lemmy and don't want to use their product there are always kbib I suppose? When their federation is working again you should be able to sub to all your favorite lemmy communities there too right?

So.. not sure what my point with this post is except that I'm happy with the current situation.

Here's to bees! 🍻

welcome, new Beehaw users and lurkers. an FAQ and introduction to Beehaw

Sweet, I'm finally in!

Been trying to sign up for the last few days without luck. Then I saw the thread about the big regarding declined users and thought that was it. Turns out it was another bug! Found it on github, apparently if you try to sign up with a username that's too long it just won't let you but it won't give you an error message either. You just get the spinning icon on the button.

So. Here I am with a shorter username!

Turns out I couldn't set my desired display name either (NorthernLightMountain) since it seems to be configured to the same length limit.

But at least i snagged a short and simple user name instead!

Like so many others I found my way here after reddit started acting like Facebook and I really wanted to join this instance in particular. A corner of the net actively trying to keep the toxicity at bay? Sign me up!

Going to take a little bit if getting used to the whole federated bit but it looks promising.

Anyways, hi fellow bees!

how’s your week going, Beehaw

Overall good but the nice weather is tanking my work motivation.. I'd rather be outside in the woods than in front of a computer tbh, but what can you do?

Keeping up with Lemmy/Beehaw is fun! I'm definitely posting more frequently than I ever did on reddit tbh.

Help me find a fitting distro

Of those I think I'd recommend Tumbleweed, it's a great polished distribution with some extra helpful administrative tools (yast for instance). It's rolling but feels as stable as a normal dist to me.

The others are far from bad though! I just have a soft spot for suse and opensuse :)

Ubuntu or pop_os could be nice starting choices as well since they're so big and well supported.

True.. look at reviews too for instance. Feels like more and more of them are generated by their owners in different ways to trick people. Same with tracks on spoitfy and so on as well, companies script playing their tracks all the time so they'll end up higher in rankins.

It's really starting to be hard to find anything that's honest these days.
