Fuckin' beats me

I don't know if he survived more attempts than Castro, but you have to admire Tito's responds after Stalin tried to have him killed 5 times:

Stalin. Stop sending assassins to murder me. We have already caught five, one with a bomb, another with a rifle. [...] If this doesn't stop, I will send one man to Moscow and there will be no need to send another.

A real, US government website

The US is following the playbook by the letter. The biggest difference between nascent Nazi Germany and the US today? We've had 80+ years to build up military power which we'll use to crush any who stand against us, while Germany was still fighting against crippling debt and hoping not to generate too much notice as they built up their military power. While the Nazi's had to coax, cajole, and bully the media into speaking or reporting on them favorably, this administration has managed to get the media to eagerly accede to demands that haven't been made. The government shuts down, President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Camacho Mayor McCheese will declare a state of emergency that includes the criminalization of the opposition party for causing the shutdown, then he'll cite whatever war Secretary HePronoun Removed-Man has started as the reason for a full martial law implementation and the military annexation of Canada for "Secure the Borders!". In this scenario US=Germany, Canada=Poland, and we just skip the Sudetenland and The Anschluss (though to the administration, they'll expect that the annexation of Canada will equate to The Anschluss) and go right to the need for "Lebensraum"

yea

I think the more fundamental issue, and something we often forget to highlight with these tech bro shitstains, is how many of them are wholly convinced that with enough money they can just live forever.

The Steam Deck has been a lightning rod of getting gaming compatibility into the mainstream. The Proton compatibility layer works for most Steam games and the Proton DB will tell you the level of compatibility for a given game on Linux, https://www.protondb.com/ . Additionally, a number of other compatibility layers and ported front ends for GOG, Epic and various others are available and functioning (I can't list them all as I only use Steam, but I'm all in on Fedora and have yet to find a game that won't run). VR is working now on Linux (I have an Oculus Quest 2 I was given a couple years ago and it works flawlessly), as are most game pads. You can go with something like Bazzite which has a number of gaming specific compatibility tools built in, and it's immutable so it's a deliberate effort to break the thing. The only real limitations for software is anything Adobe (but there open source apps to fill that gap, GIMP is among the biggest) and MS Office M365 Copilot, which you can just use the Libre Office suite or if compatibility is a concern due to macros or addins, OnlyOffice is a decent alternative.

If you could see any band perform live at any point in their history, who would you see?

  • Pink Floyd c. 1979 during The Wall tour
  • Portishead in '94 around the release of Dummy
  • CCR at any point really
  • Deftones in 2000 after the release of White Pony
  • Jeff Buckley just performing Hallelujah
  • Millencolin in 2000 right after release of Pennybridge Pioneers
  • Bob Dylan at Newport in 1964, then again in 1965
  • Nirvana at MTV Unplugged
  • Hendrix at Woodstock
  • AC/DC with Bon Scott in 1979
  • Rage Against the Machine in 1999

Trump Rips Out Presidents’ Historic Trees for New Ballroom

This! There will be no more elections, no more representation, just plutocrats fucking the poor to extract more wealth and power, until there is no more clean water or air and then voluntary slavery to the faceless multinational in charge of your region can be instituted to grant limited access to few remaining clean food and water they've stockpiled. Trump is a cancer and has been ignored and enabled at every turn. There is no future that includes a free voice of dissent for any, but especially of you can't afford the toll.

He doesn't just want to be a dictator, he is actively taking steps to entrench and enshrine himself as one; and our feckless SCrOTUS and Congress are only too happy to do whatever is necessary to further this agenda. For those that support him, the math is simple: "Being in his favor may yield rewards." For those that oppose him the math is still simple, "He's going to leave office eventually, then it'll 'our turn' and we'll be able to rule an authoritarian state with absolute power and a fully functioning surveillance network." The American Experiment has failed...miserably. The US and indeed the rest of the world need to stop pretending that this is suddenly going to end, or cooler heads will prevail. The US is a threat to global stability, peace, and prosperity. Any state, government, monarch, or political body that hasn't accepted that this is the new reality is deluding themselves. This is the new normal and we only become more fascist, draconian, and totalitarian as the days go by. President Thunder Thighs still has 3+ more years left in his Constitutionally mandated term, and it's only taken him 9 months to dismantle everything resembling functional representative democracy. By the time his term is "up" there will be one party rule, lifetime appointments to office, the dissolution of all other branches of governments, and the complete closure of borders (publicly to keep undesirables out, but functionally to prevent brain drain and keep everyone in). Everyday he and his cronies find some new way to assume more power, and there is no check or balance to combat that. While many will say "it's defeatist" or "don't give up", we're watching in real time as the mechanisms for voicing and acting on dissent are being dismantled or criminalized. They come back harder after every set back and it's only a matter of time before even this comment becomes a crime against the state.

The claim will be that it's the Dems fault, so they'll be derided by the gov't media as society collapses; and much the way an abusive partner blames their victim, it'll be people being shot in the streets in droves, drones with hellfire missiles being ordered to fire on urban centers, and the administration will just have whatever blonde talking head they choose come out and say "this could have all been avoided but the Dems were allowed to exist for too long and this is what happened. See what they made us do?"
