Twitter-like Fedi never clicked for me. I made a bunch of accounts over the course of two, maybe three years, each starting with the intention of maybe making new friends and having a good time. I met a ton of cool people but we never became good friends because I never got really invested into it, simply because my feed was never something I hoped it would be, something exciting.

Lemmy gives me exactly what I was searching for. I didn't use it prior to thr Reddit migration because there were too few people but now I am very happy

Did you expect something else from a link aggregator?

Why tf is this downvoted if it's true? Telegram's own encryption is a joke, you can't enable it in group chats or through desktop clients. There's also part fo ToS that states you can't use your own encryption in Telegram, which is pretty suspicious of a supposed privacy-friendly messenger

Syncthing, I setup synchronisation between my PC and phone in apps that have bad built-in synchronisation or don't have it at all, e.g. for PPSSPP: I am able to have my save files for games synchronised and keep playing a videogame on phone just where I left it off on my PC

uBlock Origin has filters to block cookie pop-ups. I consider the extension a must anyway, no need to download another one like IDCAC or Consent-o-matic

Never go with deals like that. Only use VPNs recommended by known privacy communities like PrivacyGuides And even when you use them, keep in mind that VPN merely shifts trust from your ISP to the VPN provider, it does not make you anonymous, that's why you should still exercise caution anyway. I absolutely love the KDE approach and I always enable telemetry for FOSS apps if I can see what exactly is being sent. Hell, I wouldn't even mind some opt out telemetry if I could see what data the app sends back "home". That's, obviously, if the data sent doesn't violate my privacy significantly

Kbin and Lemmy operate on the same network, so if somebody has a problem with that they are better off on the first platform. Or they can just host their own instance like Behaw mods do. I just wish people would finally shut up about Lemmy's developer views, it's a circlejerk at this point

You're exaggerating, I can definitely see how Twitter users changed the general atmosphere of the Fediverse, at least on the instances that I have used in the past. As for Reddit, I think it will be something similar to that, not everyone is going to migrate but Lemmy is going to be significantly bigger, better and THE place to go if you want to ditch Reddit. Also, it's not like having a big portion here of social media audience is going to do a lot of good. I have serious doubts about people being able to give value to the community if they can't even figure out how to register on an instance other than the main one

The thing is, you pick the door totally randomly and since there are more goats, the chance to pick a goat is higher. That means there's a 2/3 chance that the door you initially picked is a goat. Yeah, I don't really get why they can't make that optional. Session and SimpleX are running just fine with no phone numbers, so I don't think that's a technical problem. If Signal wasn't audited and recommended by tons of privsec enthusiasts and experts, I would have believed it's a honeypot

Uhh, I have to disagree. Hate for corporations isn't hard coded into Lemmy and neither of us are using an instance moderated by the dev. Lemmy could easily be used by right-wingers

No Fediverse software is obliged to be an alternative to an already existing proprietary platform. Misskey is just another microblogging platform.
