Reddit usage metrics fall thanks to CEO's plan to boost revenue

I keep accidentally typing "red.." into by browser and visiting the site through muscle memory alone! So I'm definitely still contributing to the daily visitor metrics they seem to be showing here.

But as of yesterday I've completely made the switch. All in on Lemmy to fill that void Reddit used to.

Here's to hoping more people make the switch, instead of putting up with Reddit thinking there's no viable alternatives (like I did just a few days ago)!

Keeping Bethesda games Microsoft exclusives "powerful evidence" against Activision Blizzard takeover, says FTC

Reply in thread

That's what gets me the most - Sony continues on pretending to care about the consumers, when all they actually care about is not having the chance to monopolize the games market themselves

Meanwhile, MS/Xbox is at least showing the care about giving consumers more choices as to where to play there games, while Sony locks down everything they can get their hands on via console exclusivity.

See also Xbox day 1 PC/Console releases vs PS 1-year console exclusivity before sometimes making a PC port. Drives me nuts!

Just revealed Bobby Kotick and Nintendo have had active talks about the next-generation Nintendo console, is close to Gen 8 in power (PlayStation 4 / Xbox One)

This console would literally be doing what the Steam Deck already does - and likely charging you again for games you've already played. Why are you happy about their complete stagnation?

Looking forward to playing 10 year old looking games from a team (Nintendo) that will no doubt be selling them for $70? There's so many better ways to spend your time/money..

I remain forever pissed that the best way to play BOTW or TOTK is through emulation, since they're being held back to consoles that can't play them consistently at 30fps in 720p.

If Nintendo would give me a legal way to play these, I would happily buy them again on PC! I want to enjoy those brilliant games the way the deserve to be enjoyed..

Star Citizen costs exceed Cyberpunk 2077, GTA 5, and RDR2 combined

Rock on, man.. I backed in early 2014, and it's honestly been such a wild ride throughout that time! Space Games have come and gone since then, and I've enjoyed my time with each and all of them, but nothing's held my interest quite like Star Citizen.

Even the janky fun present in the game right now blows most of the competition out of the water, for me personally. And the weekly videos into the development process (Jarod's the best!) are insightful and honestly enjoyable in and of themselves..

But it's absolutely not for everyone! But if people are honest with themselves I think they'll realize there's a reason people are dumping money into a project like this: it's got tons of promise, and there's quite a bit to show for it even now :)

NEW - Via an FTC vs. Microsoft exhibit: In 2019, Microsoft mulled trying to buy Square Enix. Unclear at what level this was pitched, but Phil Spencer gave feedback to the internal proposal

Wow that Twitter thread was toxic - people pretending like "greedy" Xbox is one acquisition away from world domination, when all the facts have pointed at Sony making game-level deals to continue dominating Xbox across so many new titles.

Of course Microsoft has considered acquiring other studios - that's what happens in the business world: you consider making purchases of other companies/competition to see if they make business sense to do so. Even Sony has acquired Bungie recently to expand their portfolio of live service games, of which they showed off like 10 at their recent games showcase a month or so ago.

CD Projekt: "We need to fix the relationship with our players"

From what we've heard, the Phantom Liberty expansion is as much about amending the base game via QoL improvements and UI/AI improvements as it is adding some new story missions and worldbuilding! Skillup mentioned that in his review from being on hands with the game at SGF.

So there might be something for everyone here, especially if they add some depth to the RPG elements and entice us to go back for 2nd (3rd or 12th) playthroughs of the game!

What do you guys think is going on with Squadron 42?

Reply in thread

Great take!

Honestly the last Citizen Con breathed a lot of confidence back into SQ42 for me. I've been excited about the PU and Squadron for a long time now, but seeing the space-station demo (with the grabby hands, and Zero-G push-pull) really got me STOKED!

I'm holding out hope that the 2 Day CitCon this year indicates that they have plenty to show us about SQ42 and the progress they've made :)

...or they just decided to give Tony Z his own day to wildly build our hype in Quanta :D

OOP’s dog ate her neighbour’s drone. Neighbour takes her to small claims court which ironically is the best thing that happens to OOP.

As a full-time dog dad, and hobbyist drone pilot, I take extra precaution not so spook my pups with the loud buzzy machine I fly around our house sometimes. And since I'm not an absolute dickhead, I don't fly low in other people's property! That parts just common sense.

Good on OP putting the time in and getting some justice in all this :D
