I started Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir this week. The first book of the series was on my bingo card last year, and I'm hoping this one helps me understand the hype better. I suspect I'm just the wrong demographic to find the series better than sliced bread, but I am still enjoying it so far. Harrow is definitely more experimental in structure: some sections are second-person, some are out of order, and some are clearly not real, though whether they're dreams, hallucinations, or memories of alternate timelines, idk.

I started squinting real hard at the tesseract dev (before the controversy) when I saw a tesseract patch note that said something about getting rid of Þ (in some form, idr exactly, just that there was no mention of an option to turn it off). I think it's nice to have a few instantly-recognizable posters in the community, esp. when what they're doing is harmless.

I wanted to see this thing in motion, so I tried to search up the youtube video, but no dice. Every article on it is just copy-pasted from the original on the Express site, and I can't get the embedded video attached to it to work. I did find an article on NIWA's site about a species of sea pig, which looks similar.

I'm nearly done with Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett. It's delightful, and I do love seeing more of the Librarian, but I'm a little confused about how much hype it gets. Don't get me wrong, I still think it's pretty great! I'm just not finding it better/more accessible/etc than the other Discworld I've read so far.

Still kinda in a reading slump, so probably grabbing something fast-paced next.

Working on the new T. Kingfisher, Hemlock & Silver.

Read since last time:

The Lamb Will Slaughter the Lion by Margaret Killjoy (fantasy horror, novella) | bingo: creature, minority author, short, LGBTQIA+ lead, alliterative, cover

A wanderer visits an anarchist commune that's protected by a preternatural being.

I think I'd put this in the "fine" category; not sure if I'm interested in the sequels.

The Tea Master and the Detective by Aliette de Bodard (space opera-ish mystery, novella) | bingo: creature, different continent, minority author, orange, short, award

A prickly detective and a sentient ship discover and investigate an unusual corpse.

Intentional Holmes and Watson vibes. Cute enough, but the mystery felt a bit secondary.

Canvas is in 2 weeks!

Would it be possible to get the cotemplate advertised more prominently (like as a community link on the website/in announcement posts)? I know it's not something you guys are directly involved in, but as someone who usually ends up helping work on multiple templates during the event, having (a lot of) them in one place is really helpful as a supplement to asking in matrix. The more people that know about it and use it, the better, imo.
