Anthropic accuses Chinese rival Alibaba of illicitly extracting AI capabilities

Its the 7-step AI leadership program:

1. Create an AI model that can generate data.

2. Brazenly and illicitly steal terabytes of copyrighted data to build a usable product.

3. Publish said model on the internet.

4. Get rich of stocks and user fees, without paying a dime to the actual data-owners.

5. Discover that your competitors brazenly and illicitly stole terabytes of generated data to build their own product at a fraction of the cost.

6. Watch them get rich of stocks and user fees, without paying you a dime.

7. Cry deeply.

U.S. Imperialism Dealt Humiliating Blow in War on Iran - A Welcome Development for Working People and the Oppressed Around the Globe

Actually working people and the oppressed are the ones bearing the brunt of the cost.

Trump’s war not only quelled the Iranian uprising, it legitimized the regime and secured its survival, maybe even for decades to come.

At the same time it sent many families in low-income countries into poverty as food and fuel prices became unaffordable.

Also, countries in the Gulf, with their dependence on oil and gas exports and/or tourism, have seen their economies be permanently damaged.

And the US, once the proud vanguard of freedom, prosperity and democracy, is now a rapidly declining superpower who’s people will soon face even more rising inflation, stagnant economic growth and a treasury that’s been stripped bare by ultra-wealthy, corrupt politicians.

Iran declares the Strait of Hormuz closed again after US lifts blockade

Reply in thread

To be fair, the regime’s response to the civil unrest was so unnecessarily bloody and violent that some sort of international response was almost inevitable.

So yeah, crazy people who don’t give two cents about their people.

And if you really want to muddy the waters, then consider the Iranian diaspora in the US, who are hardcore MAGA-supporters and who literally asked Trump to bomb ‘their’ country.

Or the former prince of Iran asking Trump’s blessing to lead his country again, after spending the majority of his life achieving nothing and living of the fortunes his father stole from Iran.

It really is narcissists all the way down…

Did anyone else note that emphasizes of tolerance/respect over merit, and this causes accumulation of degradation, corruption and Third world traits?

Yes, absolutely. Its by no means scientific (at least I’m not aware of any research on the subject), but I have worked with colleagues from Mumbai for years and I have experienced many situations in which socials norms -especially adherence to hierarchy- strongly hampered results.

In fact, this is by no means an issue limited to the Third world. In my experience this issue also pops up a lot in sectors of Western economies, such as banking, hospitals or construction. Companies that strongly value hierarchy tend to have persistent problems with things like workplace safety, compliance and innovation.

In fact, we have an unique example of how values and beliefs can hamper effectiveness and results in the form of the Trump administration. Trump blatantly favors loyalty and obedience over competence. He has effectively purged nearly all offices of government of political opponents, but in doing so he has filled the ranks with unapologetic yes-men who are utterly incompetent at their assigned task. The speed with which this has degraded the US economy, military power, political influence etc. is absolutely astounding and is very similar to countries considered ‘Third World’.

Trump mulls 'winding down' war and leaving Strait of Hormuz crisis to 'other nations'

Trump expects the world to go to war with Iran. What will actually happen is that the world will re-establish diplomacy with Iran and offer sanctions relief to end the blockade.

Without war reparations, American ships will forever be barred from sailing the strait, and Gulf states will likely start distancing themselves from the US and re-assess hosting American bases and troops.

Trump’s victory looks an awful lot like a strategic defeat that sees the US pull out of the Middle East and leave Iran in a more powerful position then before.

Trump snubs Zelensky’s offer to help US with drone tech and lashes out at him again

Unbelievable…Trump’s would rather save his ego than let Ukraine help save American lives.

My brother in-law actually has a diagnosed personality disorder and the way Trump behaves, especially while under duress, is identical to how my brother in-law would react.

If Trump indeed suffers from a personality disorder, which I am convinced is the case, then he is literally incapable of backing down.

This is an absolute nightmare scenario for the US. Trump won’t stop until he is forced to stop. We will see Trump make even more crucial mistakes and see him try and escalate this as far as he possible can.

Sam Altman Thanks Programmers for Their Effort, Says Their Time Is Over

Not a programmer myself, but I don’t believe for a second that LLM’s will replace programmers.

Altman’s bullshitting on social media is just marketing. Don’t believe for a second that this guy actually speaks truth or even knows what he’s talking about.

However, I do believe that a lot of executives are gullible enough to fall for this vibe-coding scam and kill their business. I also believe we’re going to see a tsunami of racketeers selling broken products.

Donald Trump pleads for UK to send warships to secure Strait of Hormuz

This is the same country that was seriously planning to invade and annex Greenland just three months ago. They might have postponed their plans in favor of bombing Iran, but Greenland is still on the table.

So Europe may suffer the economic consequences of this mess, but the White House getting humiliated and the US military getting degraded and bogged down in Iran are both a boon for Europe.

My only fear that some European leaders (looking at you Starmer) might actually be stupid enough to follow them in this folly out of some misplaced sense of appeasement.
