I'd recommend avoiding Google for web searching. Duckduckgo has been a good alternate for me for about 5 years now. I've heard that Bing is a good alternate, even though its a Microsoft service. ChatGPT is also a good option to compliment web searches, though I'd recommend getting a second result from another service if looking up an answer to a question, but when doing general questions/suggestions it can outperform a web search in both detail and ability to refine/filter.

Google is just a ranked ad delivery service based on an abused and gamed SEO system, it's fucking awful for delivering useful links.

I think people are seeing Reddit as their only solution right now due to the lack of awareness of this place. It's been a bit sad to see all the news articles written about the event but very few plugs for alternate options to visit.

Mostly kept away from news about BG3 story because I'm playing it and don't want to be spoiled. Had no idea that there might be "backlash" against Lae'zel. Though I'm not going to read much stock in an article that's just a bunch of tweets compiled together.

Had plenty of RPG characters not to be to my taste in other games, but my complaints usually only come in if there's too many of them within a single game. I kinda want to know there's a range of characters to explore with, shows breadth. Certainly if it were a full palette of whiny brats then I'd probably bounce off the game.

My only complaint so far (and I know there's been posts in this area) is just how fucking horny people seem to be. I'm trying to buddy up with party members and they're taking it as me coming on to them. There's something to that. Hearing stories of subreddits reopen and ask the userbase what they want to do, well, who exactly are they asking? I'm not there, and I've seen plenty of posts from others who are also not there. Are they taking silence as votes against? I doubt it.

One way I'm looking at this opportunity is like email, anyone can set up an email server thanks to how it got established. So if this pans out and eventually we get funded hosts in the vein of Gmail and Hotmail, who spend money writing fancy UIs and on marketing, we still have a fundamental base where we can shuffle away from the big players and go set up our own servers.

I do hope to see some funded options come into this space, they can control/own their interface into the data, but they can't control/own the data.
