'Cringe': Tim Scott panned as he declares 'America is not a racist country' at RNC

While I agree that he should be ridiculed for a statement like that, it's obvious that the attendees at the RNC are supportive of that statement. To them, America doesn't have deep-seated issues with race. Instead, America has the opposite! A system where minorities are favored and granted special treatment, while white people struggle to earn their fair share! (Please understand this is not my personal belief)

This one's a doozy

Am I crazy for not wanting anyone to get shot? I know how crazy our politics are getting, and I'm afraid of the future, but we shouldn't be wanting anyone to be shot at. Life is life, even if it's attached to the absolute worst person on Earth. Sure, lock up people who are a danger to society, but let's not celebrate gun violence.

Deus Ex director Warren Spector thinks that 'if someone made Deus Ex today it might be perceived as a documentary,' so if he made a new one it would be pretty different

Reply in thread

I wonder if people realize that cyberpunk is meant to be a dystopian satire, and not just a cool aesthetic. It should feel like a condemnation of a number of modern practices (including our over-commercialization and hypercapitalism). I guess the issue with Deus Ex is that reality has jumped the shark so hard that it doesn't even look like much of an exaggeration in some spaces, and more like the logical outcome of another decade or two.

I'm sure there are some weird tech bros out there that see it as a utopia, and that's where I stop being able to see eye to eye with them. Who would want to live in a world where the cycle of poverty is more vicious than ever, where literal under-cities of people have to subsist on artificial light and synthesized foods that keep them alive, but only barely?

You have 15$. How would you spend it so that you'll be the happiest you can be for 15$ ?

It depends on what I'm trying to maximize.

If I just want the happiness spike ASAP, then I would just buy $15 worth of Magic cards, or maybe a booster pack or three, depending on the set.

If I'm trying to maximize my overall happiness over any amount of time, I think spending $15 on something reusable, like a nice pair of socks or a hat would work out for me.

If I want to maximize happiness in general, then spending it on someone else I care about does double duty. It makes someone else happy, and I get happiness from being involved in the process.

Epic Games is now 'financially sound,' CEO Tim Sweeney says

I dislike the Epic Launcher and almost every move they've made as a company, but I'm glad that competition exists. People should have choices of where to get games, in ways that make sense for them. Unfortunately, I don't really see a reason to choose EGS other than exclusives and freebies, but hopefully they actually develop it into a valid candidate.

In general, having more publishers and storefronts and developers in a place of stability is good for the industry. It sucks when studios have to get shut down because the funding isn't there.

This is his punishment for Total Forgiveness, where he had to go up and do a stand up routine. I think the full footage of it is listed as a separate thing from the episode it happened in, though.

New Darksiders game teased by THQ Nordic

Embracer doesn't really make a game good or bad. The harm they've brought to the industry has more to do with their acquisition of studios and then closing them down after realizing they've overextended themselves. In the early days, they were looked at as a potential boon to the industry, offering pay stability for studios with their size, but obviously they made some poor choices and have done irreparable damage to many developers' lives.

Huntington Beach to vote on ‘MAGA’ plaque for library’s 50th anniversary

Reply in thread

Unfortunately, yeah. Back on r/losangeles people knew the reputation of HB (and a number of other beach communities, especially as you push further south).

Truly ridiculous, though, to want to commemorate a building like this with the name of a movement that wasn't there when the building was built, and has no ties to the purpose of the building. They rage about identity politics but have somehow tied their identity into their political beliefs.

Trump's Justice Department ends Biden-era task force aimed at seizing assets of Russian oligarchs

Reply in thread

Well, no one voted for"Genocide Joe" because Biden was not in the election. I'm sure there were a number of people, though, who abstained from voting for Harris because she also did not represent their wishes for the situation in Palestine, though to me that feels like being a single issue voter.

I don't understand the quote or run-on sentence of yours. People should indeed try and campaign for candidates they believe align with their ideals of governance.

New Astro Bot Will Feature Over 150 Bots Inspired By PlayStation Characters; No In-Game Purchases Or Multiplayer

Reply in thread

They're just fun little nods to PlayStation's history. Previous AstroBot games have been fun little 3D platformers, with little tidbits that pay tribute to the PlayStation and its various controllers and accessories and even major series.

This is just saying that there are going to be a ton of references, hinting at the scope and budget of the game.
