Ich bin jetzt fertig mit "Automatic Noodle" und ehrlich gesagt zählt es definitiv zu den besten Büchern, die ich bisher gelesen habe. Ich mag die vier Roboter, die sich sowohl im Äußeren, als auch im Inneren so deutlich unterscheiden.

Sie nutzen den kleinen Freiraum, den ihnen ein fehlerhaftes und oft unerbittliches System unbeabsichtigt gelassen hat, um etwas zu schaffen, das schön und gut für alle ist. Ihr Motivation kommt von innen, aus dem Spaß und Vergnügen an der Tätigkeit selbst, sowie ihren verfügbaren Mitteln. Obwohl es ursprünglich um sie selbst dabei geht, heißen sie jede Gelegenheit, etwas Gutes für andere (robotisch wie auch menschlich) willkommen. Sie lassen ihre eigene Vision frei wachsen. Wir können es genauso machen. Etwas tun, was una Freude bereitet, und die Gelegenheit ergreifen, wenn wir andere mit einschließen oder anderen etwas Gutes damit tun können. Und dabei bemerken wir oft, dass die Gemeinschaft unsere Freunde noch erhöhen. Mir geht es so, wenn ich bei meinem lokalen Pfadfinderstamm die Lagerfeuergitarre bespiele. Nur wenige wollen selbst darin aktiv werden, aber alle freuen sich und singen begeistert mit. Meine Leidenschaft bringt mir und anderen Freude, und das ist mir sehr wichtig.

In "Automatic Noodle" ist natürlich nicht alles wunderbar. Es ist keine Utopie und zeichnet zuweilen auch ein ziemkich düsteres (und aus aktueller Sicht leider wahrscheinliches) Bild. Es kommt mir in der Handlumg des Buches aber nicht so vor. Ich denke, das liegt an der Zukunftsvision. "Automatic Noodle" sagt: "Ja, ist gerade richtig scheiße, aber schau mal: Da vorne wirds schon besser. Also lass uns zusammen daran arbeiten." Aktuell scheinen wir auf dem absteigenden Ast zu sein. Kaum einer hat noch positive Zukunftsaussichten (trotz der Tatsache, dass es uns in vielen Dingen auch besser geht als früher). Aber wir können die düsteren Aussichten damit kontern, dass wir gemeinsam eine bessere Zukunft schaffen können und es irgendwann wieder bergauf gehen wird.

Interessant finde ich auch die Thematisierung von strategischer Misinformation, sowohl im großen (Informationskrieg), als auch im kleinen (individuelle Hater). Schön fand ich da die Worte von Cayenne: "Sometimes, when people don't have a community, they make one up." An sich schon ein treffender Satz. Besser kommt das dann rüber, als Hands fragt, ob sie das nicht auch selbst gerade tun würden. Sweetie grenzt das schön ab: "We are making a place for people who were already there." Wir können uns die Gesellschaft nicht aussuchen. Es geht darum Orte für die Menschen um einen herum zu schaffen. Gerade jetzt, wo es kaum noch Dritte Orte gibt, an denen sich Menschen ihne kommerzielle Zwänge treffen können.

Und zuletzt: Ich finde es unglaublich witzig, wie Sloan überzeugt davon ist, dass Friends die erste Serie war, die komplett per LLM geschrieben wurde. Erinnert an die unendliche Seinfeld Episode, die vor ner Weile jemand auf Twitch gestreamt hat.

We want a new door bell and we will even be able to run new wires (currently we only have 2 Wires). I would like to have video and 2 way audio locally hosted, though the most important thing is, that the base functionality (door bell button with connected wireless door chimes through the house) needs to be absolutely reliable (no random connectivity issues).

I have found the Acuvox R20A, which is seems to have all the bells and whistles about SIP (audio and video) calls. Though from its documentation it seems, that bell chimes also must use SIP, making it more depending on my network infrastructure and the self hosted SIP server (like Asterisk). I don't see a possibility to trigger a relay on button press for triggering traditional door chimes. Which is a shame, since that would be the most reliable for this basic functionality

Do you have good ideas on how to go with this? Or does it make sense, to break this up and use a more basic door bell, while also adding camera and audio additionally as separate devices?

EDIT: I now decided to buy the Reolink PoE Doorbell. It even has an official integration with Home Assistant. I will see, how good I can get the 2-way audio to run through HA or Frigate

Hey, I hope someone here can help me with Bazzite. I already tried to ask at a Bazzite community, though it doesn't seem to be active enough. ( link )

I failed to install Bazzite besides Windows10 (same SSD) and Ubuntu (different SSD). I got the error that grub2-mkconfig exited with code 1. It did not create an entry in my efi partition (checked in Ubuntu and only saw one Ubuntu and one Windows directory). I checked the logfile mentioned in the error dialog, though that basically just said the same. No further information.

As I wanted to overwrite an existing old ubuntu install on that SSD, I chose to install on a shared disk and then reclaimed the storage space by removing the old root and swap partition of the old Ubuntu in the resulting dialog. The partioning for Bazzite is then done automatically on the resulting free space.

Can you help me with this? All I could find online was either not fitting the problem at all and/or showing a totally different install process (probably for old Bazzite versions).

My hardware is rather old. Ryzen5 CPU, SATA SSDs and HDDs and a Geforce 1060 3GB. I hope to now completely ditch Windows with a replacement for gaming.

Update: As I got the advice to do manual partioning with an additional EFI partition, I tried that. Had to create the partitions through gparted, since the partioning helper in the installer (available through the three dots menu) didn't show any disk. With this partioning I got past this error:

(Mind the flags at the EFI partition) Though then I got the next error later in the process. Result was that the new EFI partition was empty (no files) and no grub2 boot menu either.

Honestly, I will probably wait for when I have more time again, and then backup everything and building up my systems from ground again. This whole mess with the disks comes mainly, because it is my old grown system with too many small disks, filling all SATA ports (so adding a disk is currently not possible. I need to do tabularasa with this to get a cleaner setup. Though that means work, to transfer everythjng to a new system

Update 2: I now solved it with money. I bought a new SSD, where I were able to install bazzite. As I also wanted to install another fedora spin on the same disk I still had to jump through some hoops (partitioning and formating in gparted, setting manual mountpoints and not formating in the installer). Not installing bazzite on a full disk is obviously buggy.

With a lot of more hoops (extra EFI disk, Nvidia driver stuff, grub boot menu chainloading) I then got a normal fedora working on the same disk.

I would like to create detailed plans of my house. Not only the floorplan, but also wall thickness, windows, doors, water and electricity lines, materials,... Best case would be both 2D plans and 3D views (maybe with highlighting for water, electricity etc).

Do you know of some open source software, that might be able to handle this task?

My siblings and I are doing secret santa every christmas. I would like to self host a webapp, that will randomly appoint a secret santa for each of us. And each of us should be able to save some wishes to that app, which then only the secret santa of that person will see.

I'm using e/OS on a fairphone 6 since some months. I would like to use Android Auto for long trips, though the official documentation tells me to install Google, Google Maps, Google Speech Recognition and then Android Auto.

What privacy implications has installing these? Does the "Advanced Privacy" of e/OS help in keeping my data as far as possible?

I know, that using Google Maps and Android Auto will give Google the usage data of what I'm doing in these while I'm using them. But what about when they are currently not in use? Or apps, that I use while Android Auto is active, but which don't have an integration for it?

There seems to be a set of OSS stub apps, that replace the Google Apss, though from what I have found online they give very mixed results.

Ich lese die deutsche Version der Bücher und da sind die Schimpfworte schon etwas eigenartig, wenn auch kreativ zensiert. Vor allem das "Fakke" anstatt "Fuck" oder "Fick" kommt häufig vor. An anderer Stelle nutzt ein Charakter dem Begriff "Penis Aktion", was dann wohl die Übersetzung von "dick move" ist.

Falls einer die englische Version hat: Werden die Schimpfworte da auch irgendwie zensiert oder abgemildert, oder ist das ein Übersetzungsding?

Ich finde das immer komisch. Das Buch wird eher nicht von kleinen Kindern gelesen und Jugendliche kommen damit doch klar. Bei den Amis erwartet man das Abmildern ja schon, deshalb die Frage nach dem Original (ist Wells Amerikanerin?)

Hi, maybe you can help me with some tech suggestions. At my local scouts troop I'm one of only a few guitar players. At camp fires I play the guitar and provide lead vocals, so that others can follow (which is important especially for songs, that are not well known). Because only a few can sit directly beside me and others might talk in parallel, I need to sing very loud, to give an orientation, which makes me hoarse way faster.

I would like to have something, that amplifies my voice, with decent quality (so no megaphone), a microphone fixed to my clothes or my head (as I need to play the guitar in parallel) and being portable (easy to carry, relatively small and powered via battery). I am able to spend like 200€ for it (300€ would be the hard upper limit). I can also build something myself, though I would need orientation on what to build exactly. I don't have experience with audio electronics, but with microcontrollers.

I need help with my first homelab hardware. Maybe you experts can help me with that. I looked at this tutorial about building your own Openshift one node cluster using an Intel NUC, though I’m unsure, if I really should buy one of these.

I have set a budget of 1000€ (I’m located in germany). The tutorial suggests the Intel NUC10i7FNK, which I can get for 450€ new here (would buy 64GB RAM and a 2TB M.2 SSD for that). And I would follow the tutorial in getting a dedicated router for my lab environment.

Can I get more for my money (also in terms of upgradability) with some other product? Or should I just get that suggested NUC? I don’t need it to be that small (can be a tower), but I don’t want real server hardware, since the lab will run in my home office.

I've now decided to buy the NUC10i7FNK. It seems to be a sensible choice and the tutorial says, that it has enough beef for my first goal of building my own Openshift cluster for experimenting.

Ja damals, in einstiger Zeit, als Internetanbieter noch ein ehrbarer Beruf war. Das Erz der wertvollen Bits und Bytes wurde noch per Hand von feinen und arbeitssamen Bergmännern aus den Untiefen der Erde geschürft, ja, das war noch Arbeit für richtige Männer. I'm rather new to web development. For my local scouts troop I'm currently trying to build a webapp to show a big browsable timeline of the troops chronicles (We have many big folders of paper showing what the scouts did that year). I've already build the ground structure based on Django for the backend and vue for the frontend. And I can display the individual elements of the chronicles (Writings, articles, pictures; videos and audio for newer entries) in a list.

Now I want to create a component, that will display a horizontal timeline with the ability to move and zoom, showing elements depending on the zoom level with different level of detail. I want to make it easy to browse the timeline of over 70 years with entries per year (like 30 elements per year).

I already tried timeline-js, but it doesn't quite behave like I want it to be (zooming, different levels of detail,...). For me it seems, that it cannot really be customized enough to reach my goal (though I might be wrong about that).

Then I thought about building that timeline component myself, though I don't know where to start in building such a component (how to draw the timeline itself with its markings, how to draw the elements at the correct position,...)

Can you give me a hint/direction where I should look for a solution? Maybe you know a tutorial for a similar situation (creating your own complex UI components)?
