Keep in mind that social security is set to run out in 10 years time.

It is not going to "run out". That is republican talking point and propaganda. God damn that myth is believed by everyone.

The concepts of solvency, sustainability, and budget impact are common in discussions of Social Security, but are not well understood. Currently, the Social Security Board of Trustees projects program cost to rise by 2035 so that taxes will be enough to pay for only 75 percent of scheduled benefits. ^1

75% of benefits will still be paid in even the worse case scenario. The fear mongering is not necessary.

How likely is Project 2025 to happen?

I honestly think this will be the last time we have an election. It's looking like he could possibly take the house, Senate is already red. Likely control of all 3 chambers. Our systems of checks and balances likely won't survive the next 2 years.

The man has outright said he would be a dictator on day one and would make his enemies pay.

1776-2024. RIP America's experiment in democracy.

IRS successfully launches their own free Direct File - some of my fellow 'murcans are eligible

I'm 100% for a simple IRS tax return but what the heck is with this?

To use Direct File, you need an IRS account with ID.me.

To get an ID.me account, you need to:

Take a video of your face

If you can't or don't want to take a video of your face, you can have a video call with an ID.me agent who will confirm that your face matches your identification.

Is that really necessary???

Plex is overhauling its apps with a redesign and under-the-hood upgrades

There are some punctuation errors in your title. It should read:

Plex is "overhauling" its apps with a redesign and under-the-hood "upgrades"

Those who use Plex to access personal media will find that their libraries are in a dedicated [hidden] tab, while the Watchlist will take up prime real estate in the top navigation section. Plex says it also streamlined the user menu for quick access to things like your profile, friends and watch history.

So they're hiding the entire point of Plex deep in the menu and promoting things that make them money. Enshittification.

Trying on a new perspective

One can appreciate the sentiment of the quote to value every minute while you have it, but under a more optimistic lens, the quote is not always true. I was 10x unhealthier 20 years ago than today, and I would give anything to never be there again. We all walk a different path.

Feedback from all moderators

Is there an alternate survey site that could be used other than Microsoft? The site is pretty much impossible to see in dark browser mode as well (light grey text on white background).

Aside from that though, what is the difference between Lemmy and sublinks?

I get these are jokes but I really don’t find anything funny about it, it becomes a meme and then people start getting more creative and pushing it more and being more covert and people come up with other little japes then new Linux users get their shit destroyed and maybe important info gets lost or precious memories so they say Linux is a piece of shit and go back to windows.

It’s not even funny to start with so when it inevitably inspires people to be assholes and bullies that’s all we’ve achieved.

copied from the original post but was exactly what was going through my mind

The election that will take place at the DNC to replace the chair will decide the policy direction of the Democratic party. Let your voice be heard!

Please spread, cross post, share, whatever; wherever you can. People should have input into the democratic policy platform, but they're so brazen as to say the "center is where we need to be".

These people, these few hundred people, are a big problem with the democratic party.

We need to take the narrative back from centrists. It can be done by telling the DNC what to do, not the other way around.
