I know going off of headlines is a no-no, but since it's all I have at the moment, and it's the Economist... I really fucking hate the corporate media's push to paint Mamdani as some kind of aggressor and insurrectionist plotting the overthrow of a formerly respectable Democrat party. The voters are choosing progressive candidates, Mamdani is not installing anyone. To claim that he is single-handedly engineering elections and implying Machiavellian means at once discounts the will of the actual voters and gives too much credit to a single person, while trying to dirty him up at the same time.

When I see 85 I assume it's an obituary, not a retirement. Pelosi is retiring from Congress at 85 years old. This is obscenity. We need an age limit for government positions, and it's going to have to come from the ground up because they will never do it themselves.

The problem is really that this has always been the case. Even during 1.0, no matter what horrible thing was going on, approval rating around 38%. Still nearly got elected in 2020, coasted in 2024. These polls don't mean anything.

Fuck that. Biden should make them regret this decision. If his candidacy is as DOA as everyone is pretending it is, then there's no incentive to play by the rules. Move fast and break stuff and get some shit done for a change.

The story is a bit more complicated than the meme lets on.

First, while she was certainly very ill after 2 heart attacks, it is unclear if his wife was terminally ill. She was disabled and had mental illness. The husband says that she wanted to die so she left the nursing home. Second, the drug binge went on for 5 days and her condition deteriorated throughout. While she was presumably doing large amounts of meth amphetamines, she also was not taking her prescribed medications. Third, at least in the article that I linked above, the sex occured at the very end and he said that she was unable to speak at that point and she died more or less immediately after. Finally, she died of a meth overdose, and not of her other illnesses.

I'm all for dying on your own terms, and if this was truly her idea or she was fully on board, more power to them. However, the wife can't speak for herself and all we've got is this guy's word.
