"Fuck you, we're not paying": inside Unity’s Runtime Fee fiasco
So most of the indie devs will not need to pay if they are sub 1MM revenue, and the large players can just throw the weight around and negotiate the fees down? Then who is this fee meant to fleece, the "middle class" devs?

Steam Deck Enables Man to Not Play Hundreds of Games On the Go
It really is an amazing device. It's so easy to buy new games to neglect, anywhere - on the bus, on the toilet, while the wife is in labor (don't judge, just practicing my neglecting skills,)... You name it. The controls and trackpads are just so well designed for hitting the checkout button and collecting dust. Sniffs vent

ASUS reveal the ROG Ally X with more RAM, more storage, larger battery
Great that ASUS is helping handheld PC gaming advance but from a consumer perspective, I cannot in good conscience recommend anyone buying ASUS products.
Their customer service is legendary for being abysmal and for something like the Ally you need good support.

That's how missteaks were made.

People in Canada can no longer access news content on Meta's platforms

What do you mean? The same people who get "news" from Facebook will still get "news" from Facebook. It will just no longer involve any actual media companies. Think blogger, pseudo-news and AI generated content - fake news gonna fake.

Sam Altman fired as CEO of OpenAI
From the article, quoting statement from the company:
“Mr. Altman’s departure follows a deliberative review process by the board, which concluded that he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities,” the company said in its blog post. “The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI.”

You are talking as if Sync dev went and plastered ads all over Lemmy web app, Voyager, Infinity, Connect, Thunder etc.
Those are still ad-free, so people who love them can continue using them. Those who want to pay Sync can pay Sync. Lemmy platform remains unchanged. What's the problem?
You enjoy that first class crap. Edit: It's official, the $ync army consists of insufferable, ball sucking douchebags.
I do enjoy Sync and I hope to continue to. I ain't mad but you seem to be, I just don't understand why.

Subscription models for an app that’s not hosting anything is just the dev wanting a constant revenue stream, no matter how they try to word it.
Reply in thread
Preach. Not sure why this is so hard for folks to understand.
App development isn't and never has been an one-time done deal. Devs always do the work to fix bugs, add new features / requests, upgrade to new platform / API etc. If they do this for free that is at their will but they are burning their own time / money one way or another. To demand a developer to run their business a certain way and mandate their business model is just mind-blowing to me.

If humans went extinct, what would the Earth look like one year later?
it would be quite nice if humans disappeared from the planet...
"Nice" is a human concept so if all human beings are gone, is it really "nice" and does it matter?
Because Mother Earth don't give a F. Most of what we say about saving the Earth is in the sense of making it sustainably habitable for us humans and not to f up the economy too badly.
Mother Earth don't care if it gets 30 degrees hotter and if the atmosphere turns into sulfuric acid because for the vast majority of its lifetime, it's been human free anyways.

Why do Sync dev need to pay Lemmy and the instance?
The price is for the client, not for the Lemmy platform or instance hosting (which is free, being the point).

Bethesda Is Responding to Negative Reviews of Starfield on Steam
