Lemmy.world is now the biggest Lemmy instance!
Unfortunately I don't have much faith in this social network until the bot issue is addressed. There is a huge contingent of spambots just waiting for their moments here.

Can someone suggest a very stable, low-maintenance Linux distro that also won’t hold me back?
Debian 12 (bookworm):

People who use Debian for desktop, why?
These (Mint, Zorin, etc) and Debian are basically the same. You can use either of them and have mostly the same experience once you finish setting up your system. Exception here goes for Ubuntu that forces Snap. I personally go with a minimal installation of Debian and add what I need along the way. If you don't want to set things up thoroughly, you should use a distro you think has the most functionality out of the box.

Are facial expressions universal?
some of them are present in the mammal world, so I'd guess they are universal among humans, at least to a certain degree

Do you think the guys on the titanic submarine will be rescued?
Reply in thread
The sound was periodic though. Every 30min interval. One of the guys in the sub is a former marine member. Some other guy from the same marine was interviewed and said this type of signaling, with 30m intervals, was something taught in said marine.

they're waiting to use the bots when the community is large, over a long period of time. This way it'd be hard to detect the bots.

Is Pop_OS a good distro to use for a beginner?
It's a good distro to use out of the box. It's well polished, pretty and functional.
It has some "foolproof" features, like having to confirm stuff that may break your system in terminal, if you don't like that you may want to stick with Mint.

the hypothesis that dogs learned some expressions to communicate better with humans makes sense, but some expressions like showing the teeth to express disapproval is present in various mammal populations

How can I see how much network data my Linux Mint updates use throughout a month?
There is a package called vnstat capable of doing what you want. vnstati is a complementary package that offers a GUI visualization of the data.
vnstati
If you need help using the tool let me know.
errata: vnstati isn't actually GUI, it just outputs a .png file.

I cannot get Turbo Boost working on Linux for my Intel Kaby Lake R processor (i7-8650u), always below 10W, 2.1GHz. Current throttling. #Surface #Laptop
Reply in thread
My previous reply was erroneus. There are reports of those processors working properly, so they probably are fully supported on linux. I suggest you keep at it.
The first response of this thread has some other things to try: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1329587/intel-core-i7-8550u-cpu-frequency-drops-on-high-loads-on-ubuntu-20-04
