I had a neighbour friend who was not a mortician but embalmed his own wife.
I (aurally) witnessed a kindergartener get run over by her school bus. I was on a different bus and our bus drivers were talking over the radio, then there was this ungodly wailing from the other bus. The other bus driver just kept screaming "I killed her, I killed her".
Turns out the little girl barely missed the bus, ran alongside it to catch up, tripped, and fell under the wheels of the bus.
Once we got to high school, students on the killing bus were offered counseling. I, not being on the killing bus, didn't talk to anyone about it until I went to therapy decades later.
Yellow school buses freak me out still, for that and abuse reasons.

someone mentioned tattoo parties?
As a former public librarian and current person who walks their dog, I'm of two minds.
I've seen less drug use and public sex at local public libraries than at interstate rest areas and on hiking trails.
If you're going to overdose, I'd rather you do it in public where you can get help. If you're going to engage in public sex please don't do it around people that aren't into that. There are private clubs for that.

So I guess we can boycott Penske now.

They did.

Edit to add: they didn't say "omg we don't approve of this for politics/ethics" they said "omg that's not safe and you're not allowed to use our trucks that was". I get that the first would be more satisfying to hear, but the second is a legalistic reason to refuse to rent to them again.

Icebreaker
Reply in thread
My partner's company starts some standup meetings with optional ice breaker questions. Partner will frequently will say "pass" when the ice breaker comes to him. Since he goes early in the rotation, it helps emphasize to newer employees that they don't have to answer, either.
Anyways, I'm proud of him for helping destigmatize non-participation in silly stuff.

Meta Now Lets Users Say Gay and Trans People Have 'Mental Illness'
It's worth noting you're only allowed to insultingly say someone has a mental illness in relation to their gender or sexual orientation.
Do not post .... Insults, including those about: ... Mental characteristics, including but not limited to allegations of stupidity, intellectual capacity, and mental illness, and unsupported comparisons between PC groups on the basis of inherent intellectual capacity. We do allow allegations of mental illness or abnormality when based on gender or sexual orientation, given political and religious discourse about transgenderism and homosexuality and common non-serious usage of words like “weird.”

Edit: and the changelog is a hoot.

And that's the true story of how I learned all my Polish ancestors came over before modern Poland was a thing, and thus didn't have Polish citizenship to pass on.

I think the person you responded to pointed out the condoms because they believe food-insecure people shouldn't have sex. Which is silly--you don't always have a choice in sex (not everyone's relationships are healthy). And if you're going to have sex, preventing unwanted pregnancy and disease is the responsible choice.

I'm with Great Aunt whomever. Flying sucks.
Plus, you could make it an event or party car. Imagine a traveling bachelorette party with a murder mystery dinner, karaoke, no flying, no driving, and you end up somewhere cool and can nap on the way back.
(100% of the pre-wedding parties I've been to have had karaoke and a murder mystery dinner. Sample set of one.)

The Open-Source Software Saving the Internet From AI Bot Scrapers
My archive's server uses Anubis and after initial configuration it's been pain-free. Also, I'm no longer getting multiple automated emails a day about how the server's timing out. It's great.
We went from about 3000 unique "pinky swear I'm not a bot" visitors per (iirc) half a day to 20 such visitors. Twenty is much more in-line with expectations.

Walmart fires 6'4" cisgender woman threatened by man who thought she was trans

I think it can be a (bad) cultural thing. When I told my mom I worried my cousin's new husband was abusive, my mom told me he was "a regular Kentucky man. They're just like that."
(My other cousin confirmed her sister's new husband was an abusive dick, but sister refused to leave him. Other cousin and I both went out of state for college, which helps break indoctrination. We were back in town for a funeral.)

Massachusetts passed a 4% millionaire's tax last year. Now every public school student is going to get free lunch
Reply in thread
I read an article about it recently. If a student asks to be called by a name other than the one they were registered with (for example, Benjamin asks to be called Ben or William asks to be called Sir Buttface) the school is supposed to inform the parents and get approval. A "side" effect of this is outing trans kids to their parents.

Why did forum signatures fall out of favor?
They get really repetitive and don't add much to the conversation.

I think I'd be pretty distracted if they also declared the anti-trans rhetoric was all a mistake and actually we love and support LGBTQ+ of all stripes and here's a big pile of money as an apology for earlier. Also we removed the sex and/or gender markings from all American passports.
That would help distract me.
