It sure is a good thing the Dems took the high road and didn't have the DoJ prosecute Trump for trying to overthrow the election because that would have led to the current administration fabricating charges against Dems!

Wasn't this case in process when he was elected? Jack Smith was the prosecutor. My point is they absolutely pursued the evidence in criminal court

Merrick Garland waited over 2 years into Biden’s term to even begin preparations to prosecute, ensuring Trump had ample time to delay until after the election. This was very weak cover to give the Dems the appearance of doing something, while accomplishing absolutely nothing.

The investigation started in Jan '22, exactly one year into Biden's term. I agree that Merrick Garland's relentless pursuit of propriety felt incredibly frustrating, but he clearly did everything by the book on realistic timelines given the magnitude of the case. Trump would've gone to court on the Jan 6th charges prior to the election if it hadn't been for the presidential immunity case that first caused the trial to be postponed by the district judge in Feb '24, and then after the Supreme Court ruled that presidents are basically kings while on the job, the prosecution's entire case had to be revised in that context.

all the "by the book" bullshit is there for cover. I felt the same way, like it needed to be done right, because the system would hold. it's very, plainy obvious to me now, especially 6 months in and seeing them fight harder against a winning candidate in their own party, than they do the criminal authoritaran, that it's all part of the same machine.

We think it's a political war, it's really a class one.

Jack Smith's case was Trump retaining classified documents, not elections.

15

He had two investigations running simultaneously, the classified document case in the Southern District of Florida and the January 6th case in DC. In the latter case, the DOJ indicted Trump on:

  • Conspiracy to defraud the United States
  • Conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding
  • Obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding
  • Conspiracy against rights

Trump prosecution for election obstruction

How long do we have to keep mentioning Epstein until he gives us free healthcare as a distraction? I would be quite distracted by that.

That would be a pretty good distraction, although I think I would need labor protections on top of that to be really distracted

I think I'd be pretty distracted if they also declared the anti-trans rhetoric was all a mistake and actually we love and support LGBTQ+ of all stripes and here's a big pile of money as an apology for earlier. Also we removed the sex and/or gender markings from all American passports.

That would help distract me.

Not having a gender on passports could seriously impact your ability to travel when every other country requires you to fill in your gender (male, female) when booking planes, trains, busses or sometimes even hotels.

2

There's already an X marker in use--just use that as "undefined", for everyone. Problem solved.

2

That would be distracting, but if you really want to distract people, you would need to start redistributing wealth, starting with giving people homes reclaimed from the hedge funds that have been buying up residential properties.

20

That would distract the shit out of me. If I had more money, cheaper groceries, and anime titties back on Steam I could even distract myself even harder.

They're being so blatant with the "but look over there" dead catting, surely literally everyone can see through it now

The thought that's been brewing in the back of my mind is what if they just decided to axe Trump for the Couchfucker and Epstein is the distraction while they're doing God knows what. At least for the first time since the inauguration I feel like nobody's interested in "what the other hand is doing". Maybe I'm just paranoid though. Hard to gauge what's within reason these days.

I’ve been too lazy to post a comment like this for a week or so.

(edit:) I wonder do the files matter? Those of us who have seen enough already to know Trump does heinous things won’t be more appalled, and the chance those who worship him will finally realize their error is tiny. If he’s in the files, I don’t think that’ll be the thing that makes the GOP throw Trump away.

There’s also the possibility that there are no distractions. Everything this administration is doing is shitty. They are doing so much at once, overwhelming us, and hoping enough of it sticks.

18

Yeah, honestly I don't think Trump raping kids is enough to take him down. Even if it fully came out, I think his supporters would just shrug. If that was all that was in the files then I don't think they'd be fighting as hard.

I really think Trump was much more heavily involved. Not simply a client, but an active supplier and trafficker. That's why they can't release it.

19

I'm thinking they're going for a Babylon AD type of situation.

1

The public running a psy-op on the Trump admin (by having basic moral decency) is the last thing they expected.

Let's see how long it takes for them to go "yeah, so Bush did in fact do 9/11"

52

Well, precedence has been set. If Obama was president, he has immunity. There's a whole ass supreme court ruling. I guess they forgor. (Yes, I'm using forgor now. I think it's funny.)

28

Yeah, I saw a legal eagle video on that.. the accusations are as ridiculous as they sound.

You reached the end
