What is a "tax write off"?

I'm seeing a lot of complicated explanations so I'm gonna go with a simpler one.

Say you build a fence for somebody and they pay you $1000. You have to report that income to the IRS. Let's say the tax rate is 40% so they say "Well you owe us $400." But instead you provide them with receipts saying you bought $500 of supplies in the form of lumber, screws and such. You have "written off" your expenses and shown the IRS you really only made $500 so you only owe $200 in taxes.

A reminder to all you far left and far right nutjobs that think Joe Biden has done nothing significant in office

You don't need to listen to far right nutjobs. They were never going to vote for any Democrat candidate.

You do need to listen to us far left "nutjobs" if you think you need our votes.

EDIT: Goddamn for a group that loves to call us "childish " moderates really don't appreciate being told they can't get what they want on their own and have to gasp cooperate with others.

Then move to China

If I spoke mandarin fluently and had a solid support network of friends and family i would. 🤷‍♂️

Dictatorship means no accountability, so once it’s set up, they do as they please no matter what you say.

Show me all this accountability here in the United States. A known pedophile is in office and the previous guy in office spent four years giving a huge number of his voters the finger.

By "trustworthiness" do you mean continuing to try to vote our way into policy which benefits the American people? Because that hasn't worked in 40+ years.

Yeah I'll take a "dictatorship" like China if it means we get socialized Healthcare, 25,000 miles of high speed rail, affordable housing and nationalization of corporations who have received billions if not trillions in subsidies. American "democracy" certainly hasn't delivered on any of that.
