In The Sentry, Reed Richards calls Doctor Strange "Steven"

I'm not a big comic reader but every once in awhile, my best friend will show up with a comic he thinks I should read. He's never been wrong - last time it was Ultimate Martian Manhunter, this time it was The Sentry.

The only Marvel movie I've seen in the past decade is End Game so we both thought it was really funny that I caught this. He correctly calls him "Stephen" a few pages later.

As for the comic itself - it's an awesome self-contained story that unfolds very nicely. The artwork is amazing and diverse as you read through different hero's perspectives. I've never been a big Hulk fan but wow, his section was my favorite??

I really liked the timeframe, too. Something happens and something had to be done. But the comic isn't about the something...it's about the anticipation of doing it. Cool idea built on top of another cool idea with a really good conclusion.

!!SPOILER WARNING!!

::: spoiler Tap for spoiler For the most part, I assumed The Sentry was a classic superhero I just wasn't familiar with. And ironically, the part that clued me in was knowing Bruce Banner did not 'get better' in a watchtower. But I still wasn't certain until the end.

Meanwhile, my friend went in knowing he wasn't real AND that every flashback story was fake but was still doubting himself by the end. :::

Anyone have success propagating Monstera Adansonii?

I've propagated a dozen different plants but this one just won't happen for me. I'm using all the methods I've had success with elsewhere and always end with a dead vine.

I've tried right into soil, right into water. Letting a cutting dry overnight. Dabbing rooting hormones on it. Sharing a cup with other rooting plants. Nothing!

So if you've had success, what did you do? Did you find it any harder to propagate than others?

Who runs the "SteamAndEpic" bot?

And what is wrong with you?

You made an AI agent to summarize random video game news. It never provides sources outside of the occasional Steam link, it's just uncited garbage about unlocking skins in some stupid game or GTA 6 leaks. And as a cherry on top, emoji.

Are YOU reading the posts? If so, what are you getting out of it? And if not, why would you think anyone else wants to read it?

Before you say "just block them," that doesn't answer this question that has me baffled. I want to know what the creator thinks they're adding to the fediverse with this slop.

I'm pretty sure I'm the #1 commenter simply through trying to answer this question. It's a dead community with a bot posting to no one. What is the point

Can anyone recommend a light similar to the one in this picture?

Hey there. I grew some Stephania and want to give one to my friend but where she wants to put it will require some supplemental lighting.

There's nothing above it so undershelf lights won't work. She understandably doesn't want a floor stand or clip-on light in her foyer, either.

So I'm looking for something like the photo....minus the "smart" app stuff. There's a lot of crap brands on Amazon and I only really know of Barrina and SANSI whose options aren't great for this.

Any suggestions?

(The light in the picture is a Glowrium but I know nothing about them)

What is the point of this community compared to asklemmy?

I don't get it. Without any sort of posting guidelines, how is this any different than asklemmy? Both communities come from subreddits but over there, Askreddit was for general/public opinion questions and nostupidquestions was for questions you feel stupid for not knowing the answer to. Over here, both posts are acceptable. And this one seems to get way more vague "what do you think about X?" posts.

So what's the point? Why have two separate communities on the same instance for the same thing? Most posts here are, frankly, stupid questions. The post that inspired this question was the one about Harambe. Come on lol

Got banned from suppressed_news for asking for a source

https://lemmy.world/post/47375566

I don't know how to see deleted comments but I said something like "is there a link here I'm just not seeing? This is a screenshot of a reddit post"

After looking at their profile I see that OP, the only mod, is a very pro-russia. Go figure lol

I don't actually care that I'm banned from a reddit repost community but I thought it was funny that it was the result of asking for a source

Fedora 44 - the start menu takes WAY too long to find the right program?

I'm several months into my Linux journey and this is one thing that is driving me absolutely crazy because it legit just works on Windows and OS X.

  1. I hit the start button

  2. I type "note"

  3. I hit enter.

If I give it a full second between steps 2 and 3, Notesnook opens as intended.

But if I hit enter at a normal speed, a game (Necesse) launches.

This is presumably because it's executing the command before the search finishes.

Can I change this behavior? I use AutoCAD for a living so typing a command and hitting enter really fast is a habit I won't be able to break.

What do you keep around to cover making most soil mixes?

When I started getting more serious about plantkeeping last year, I picked up the essentials for repotting the plants I had. I have potting mix, perlite, orchid bark, spaghum moss, and fertilizer pellets

But times have changed and I may have impulse bought a bunch of caudex roots online and I definitely don't have the right soil for it so I have to pick up some cactus soil. I also may have purchased a bunch of seeds of various plants...

I figured if I'm driving to the supply store, I might as well get everything I might need. So what do you keep around if you want to be able to pot anything?

Window control frustrations on Fedora/Plasma (full screen window)

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/42657201

I'm struggling to replicate some window behavior I'm used to (from Windows) on a new install. Does anyone have any insight?

My goal is to play a game full screen but still be able to pin windows above it.

If a game is set to Full Screen, "Keep Above Others" doesn't work.

If I run a game Full Screen (Windowed), it keeps the taskbar visible and gives me cropped resolution options.

The only way I've found that works is manually configuring each window property to turn off the title bar, set a fixed position, and a minimum resolution. And also setting the taskbar to Auto Hide.

I don't want to manually configure every game (which often requires restarting it multiple times). I don't want my taskbar to Auto Hide. And I want it to be hidden until I alt+tab or press the start key.

Is this possible?

The "resume from" option never gives me the right timestamp

Background: Jellyfin app on a Roku Ultra, all codecs and episode lengths are affected

Not a significant issue by any means but it happens every time and I don't know why.

Sunday night I watched Episode 9 of a show then went to bed. Last night, I scrolled to Next Up and selected episode 10. Jellyfin then asked me if I wanted to start at the beginning or resume from 12:42. I THINK the time it gives us 50% through a show (I've gotten used to ignoring it)

I have no other players to test but I did confirm it happens on all file types and run times. I did NOT test if it's accurate when I do stop an episode half way, through.

Is this a Roku-exclusive problem? Is there a solution either way?

Nuts make brownies so much worse

Inspired by the chocolate fruit post. I like brownies and I like most varieties of nuts and legumes but they're ruined when combined

I don't want some soft rocks in my smooth brownie. The chocolate flavor is so strong, you can't even really taste them. It just adds a bad mouth feel.

I do not understand why this is popular. Get em out of there!!

I made the switch last night and am still a bit shocked at how well it went

This won't be interesting for any longtime user but maybe it'll give someone on the fence the courage to switch. This post includes every problem I ran into and how I solved it

I settled on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed but I downloaded a couple more distros and loaded them into a Ventoy USB stick.

Good thing I did because despite partitioning the drive itself, the opensuse installer kept saying it said was out of space and no fix I found worked. So I booted up TempleOS for advice and the good lord whispered through my speakers, "try the Fedora KDE iso..."

The Fedora live environment booted right away. And unlike OpenSUSE, it recognized my 32:9 resolution so it looked good, too. I clicked through the installer and it rebooted. I was up and running in about 5 minutes.

The "app store" had a Steam and Discord flatpak so I could brag about my superior OS to my friends immediately. Do not install Steam this way, though (see below) EDIT: This apparently wasn't a mistake, see viktorz's comment below

The biggest problem I faced was with my audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett 18i8) which was recognized but hardware muted. Had to install alsa-scarlett-gui to unmute them....this was admittedly a huge pain in the ass but it's a niche problem and it was solved.

The best biggest problem was the video drivers. My resolution maxed out at 32:9 [email protected] and the screen would not wake from sleep. I ran two commands to download and install the Nvidia drivers and it worked - 1440&240hz with HDR and it wakes properly

A minor problem I ran into was Steam not creating shortcuts for games. I learned that this was because the flatpak version is siloed. Installing it "normally" solved this problem. I had already downloaded some games but was able to move them from the original folder in /var to the new one in /home. EDIT: In the comments, viktorz said a symlink would have accomplished the same thing. See what he wrote for more info

Another minor "problem" (I was prepared to lose the functionality) was my crappy Corsair mouse/keyboard. I mainly wanted to disable the default RGB rainbow but was thrilled to find CKB-Next which allowed me to change the colors and map the extra keys on my keyboard.

Anyway, I don't know why I wrote all this. I guess I was just surprised to find how easy it was and wanted to share. I'm sure I'll run into some headaches once I try to actually use the computer for stuff but for now, I'm quite happy with the experience.

My 3rd most-played artist on SoundCloud this year was a fediverse user

I am always on the hunt for new music. I made a Lemmy comment to that point a year ago and some guy replied "I make music, check me out"...so I did. Then I listened to every album. And apparently, I kept listening.

This is kind of a useless post but I thought it was interesting. And this is not paid promotion lol

Don't know how to tag people on here but it's [email protected]. SoundCloud link

[FIXED in newest beta] Inbox hasn't worked in a week or so

This happened some time last year, too, and it resolved on its own.

I get the numbers on the bell icon when I get a reply but my inbox brings up a blank page (both Unread and All). Additionally, my profile gets updated with my comments but NOT the scores/replies....so I have to click on each comment individually to see where someone replied.

Website works fine, seems to be an app thing
