Bunjie Announces Mass Layoffs

They absolutely milked the living shit out of the Destiny franchise until it died unceremoniously. They also funneled that pile of cash into exotic cars and Marathon.

The part that blows my mind is how there are Destiny 2 fans out there that want Sony to greenlight Destiny 3 and let Bungie make it. They expect Sony to give $500M to this group of devs and leadership that managed to kill the franchise through repeated mismanagement and under delivery over the years? Destiny 2 fans want more of the most aggressive FOMO driven anti-consumer microtransactions to nickle and dime them for another decade? Seriously?

Probably the best thing that can happen for Destiny is for Sony to give Destiny IP over to another studio like Insomniac, Guerrilla, Sucker Punch, or Santa Monica. Perhaps they can make a better non-live service Destiny game.

You won: Microsoft is walking back Windows 11’s AI overload — scaling down Copilot and rethinking Recall in a major shift

The title of the article is very misleading. Microsoft has not said they'll be removing AI features already deployed on Windows. All it says is they're reevaluating AI features going forward and streamlining the experience whatever that means. It sounds like they're looking to rename unpopular unwanted feature like Recall instead of scrapping it. The whole thing is just a PR move to placate the disgruntled masses. Also they said nothing about intrusive ads, telemetry, or rapidly declining stability of overall system. Recent update literally broke windows explorer, task bar and start menu. One thing for certain, Microsoft will not stop using Copilot to develop their software in house. That would be admitting Ai tools are useless and that would sink Microsoft stock even further than it already has.

Epic is giving away 17 games as part of its holiday sale

PSA to everyone that has never played Destiny 2.

tldr; Epic is giving away Destiny 2: Legacy Collection. You'll have to give Bungie whole bunch more money if you really want to play. Don't give Bungie your hard earned money because Destiny 2 is now pay to win and they'll always try to screw you. Don't get sucked into this game and give this horrible company your money.

According to the article, Epic is giving away Destiny 2: Legacy Collection which contains The Witch Queen, Beyond Light, and Shadowkeep. If you've never played Destiny 2 and think this seems great because now you can start playing Destiny 2 for the first time. This isn't so. You'll still need to spend bunch of more money if you want access to seasonal content and they're really not an optional. Just when you thought you're done, you'll then have to buy the Dungeon content which isn't part of season pass. Oh by the way you can't just buy season pass with money. You have to purchase their premium currency and then buy season pass with that currency which means you'll always have a left over premium currency. This is definitely scammy and it's by design.

Destiny 2 is dystopian microtransaction hellscape. They've been adding layers of microtransactions for years and this is the result. If you want to see how bad it has gotten watch this video by Aztecross.

Google admits the open web is in ‘rapid decline’

We really need to change the mindset about what the internet experience should be. I think everyone got too used to the idea of centralized services like Google search, Github, Discord, Twitter, reddit, and etc. and that didn't turn out well. We need to go back to federated protocol based system instead. Let's go back to the decentralized federated architecture of email, web, irc where no one corporate entity is the sole owner of said service. I think Lemmy and Mastodon are good start but we have to start replace things like Google search, Github, and Discord with decentralized counterparts. We have to learn from our past mistakes and start reconstructing a better internet infrastructure one piece at a time. It will take lot of effort and patience but it's really the only way out of the mess we put ourselves into by being addicted to simplicity of centralized corporate controlled systems.

Unity backtracks, no runtime fee for sub $1mil or for games on current/old versions

Any game developer that chalk this up as a big win and go back to business as usual as if nothing happened last week deserve to get rugpulled again in a year or two. Just the fact that Unity as a company is in a financially questionable state alone should be a blaring alarm to ditch the platform. Scumbags that tried to fleece game developers are still there collecting paychecks with zero consequences. Every Unity developers should have a plan in place to migrate away from the platform as soon as possible.

LMG has made a response video to Gamers Nexus' concerns

This video is odd to me. The thumbnail of the video is of Linus but you don't see him in the video until almost the end. Even though technically Linus is no longer the CEO of the company the responsibility still falls on him because bulk of the controversy was created by his terrible response post on their forum. Also the tone of this video is very off putting. The awkward half joking "we're human so feel bad for us" tone by whole bunch people other than Linus feels evasive. I think LMG is treating this as a PR problem but clearly it's a serious systemic internal problem and I don't see how the company culture can be changed when Linus is still very hands on. Maybe I'm being cynical here but it feels like they'll just go back to business as usual after this blows over in a week.

Republicans baffled by Katie Britt’s State of the Union response: ‘One of our biggest disasters’

There is something extremely creepy about her tone of voice and body language. One second it feels like she is trying to convince you that she is genuine but she tries too hard which immediately make you think she is faking it. All of a sudden she sounds angry in a very serious way which makes me think she is a psychopath and she about to stab me in the neck with an ice pick. My immediate instinctive reaction is to stop the video. Last time I was this creeped out was watching Anthony Hopkins' performance in Silence of the Lamb. Of course that was just really good acting of a fictional character and this is a real life person which makes it even more disturbing.

Trudeau says Ukraine can strike deep into Russia with NATO arms, Putin hints at war

Here is a video explaining the current situation regarding US and NATO greenlighting the use of long range weapons.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3cgxeFNdqI

The point of allowing Ukraine to use these weapons isn't for Ukraine to strike deep into Russian territory. It is to deter Russia setting up logistics just across Ukraine and Russian border because they feel safe. This forces Russia to move their logistics centers further inward stretching out the line. Another reason mention in the video is to strike the bridge in the Kerch strait connecting Crimea and Russia.

NATO could have made this decision in secret and allow Ukrane to launch a surprise attack deep into Russia but that's not what's happening. It seems like everyone including PM of Canada is essentially broadcasting this new potential capability instead of keeping it a secret because NATO wants it to be a form of deterrent. This is why this is relatively safe move and will not escalate into anything bigger like a full on nuclear war.
