So the recent hate towards Pedro Pascal is JK and her loyalists making shit up because he spoke out that she's an awful person?

He's a relative of the Allende family. He spent his childhood as a refugee after the US installed Pinochet and his family had to flee Chile. Idk why his anti imperialism would shock anyone.

[likely solved] What are these wires on this water tower? What is their purpose?
Are they always there? Looks like they are getting ready to hang a curtain around it before painting it, or some other type of maintenance.

Anon learns to love the bath bomb

A friend of mine is a non-native English speaker. He teaches at an elementary school and works with 'English as a second language' students. He casually mentioned that he always tells his students to take a 'horse bath' in the bathroom sink after recess if needed. He was traumatized when I told him that he'd misheard that phrase for his entire adult life.

The parable of the "Good Samaritan" is an ancient example of Israeli racism / bigotry
That is kind of the point or the parable, right? But the parable wasn't 'othering' them, it was showing how their background/race/religion/heritage isn't what made them 'good' or 'bad,' it's their actions that matter.
Society at the time already encouraged people to think of Samaritans as the other and to look down on them. The parable tells of an injured, vulnerable traveler in a time of need. Many Jews, members of high society, etc. (people normally thought of as 'good) walk by and ignore the man. A Samaritan passes by and offers aid. Of all the people who walked by, only the Samaritan is worthy of heaven. The moral is that anyone can be a good person by helping others..the kingdom of heaven is open to all, not just the Jews, and that your actions/the way you live your life is more important than what you call yourself, what tribe you belong to, who your parents are.
It's one of the most basic messages in the Bible. It is clearly anti-racist. It promotes helping others above all else. And somehow modern Christians seem to miss the point completely.

If you've ever interacted with someone who speaks a different language, what is the funniest misunderstanding you've had?
I made this comment about a year ago: https://midwest.social/comment/6247683

"Is there any reason why this needs to be a taxpayer subsidized organization?"
Public safety? Is that a good enough reason? We should be subsiding more things that are in the public interest - programs that benefit the public should never be run by for-profit corporations.

Why Isn't the "All" Feed Different for Each Instance?
"All" is all content on the fediverse, across all instances with which your home instance is federated. It will be similar for all instances, because most are federated with the big instances and those tend to have more posts and interaction.
If you only want to see the feed of communities on your local instance, you can just browse your "Local" feed.

I mean, I love that this happened, but it was at 1 minor US airport and 3 minor Canadian airports (non-TSA). From the article this doesn't seem like a widespread thing, unfortunately.

New Ohio bill would create state registry of applicants who skip job interviews
Reply in thread
Ah yes, "nobody wants to work anymore, and I know that because these entitled college grads decided to work a different job instead of the shitty one I offered them."
If people are going through the effort to take an interview (usually multiple rounds) and go all the way through the process until an offer is made and then still don't accept the job, then that is 50% on the hiring manager not being upfront about working conditions, pay, and other benefits throughout the process and 50% on the company for not offering adequate pay and benefits that match the work. This is 0% on the person who had their time wasted by the interview process. They were obviously worth more than what they were offered as evidenced by receiving a better offer somewhere else.

Also, don't they need to run to move food through their digestive tract? Or to force themselves to cough if they have something stuck in their lungs? I think there is some sort of dependency of basic functions that relies on the movement of their lungs/stomach going back and forth while running that they can't easily do if they just stand in one place all day
