Hollywood's 'Groundbreaking' AI Proposal for Actors Is a Nightmare
Getting some real Black Mirror vibes from this story.

Where can I find the old school plastic phone screen protector material?
Turns out the expensive space age glass stuff breaks super easy.
Sounds like you are really rough on your phone. The point of glass screen protectors is that it cracks instead of your phone's screen. The cheap plastic film isn't made to do that, just keep the glass from getting scratched.

What movie scared you shitless when you were a child?
Reply in thread
That was the whole point. They even made the actors stay out of public view for a year, handing out flyers at Sundance that they were "missing, presumed dead". There were fake police interviews on the film's website and everything. This was the first time anything like this had been done so I can imagine people were really invested in this movie and thought it was real.

With how decent the browser UI is, what benefits are there by accessing Lemmy via an app?
Swipe controls are a major plus for me, and the app keeping my place when I go back to my feed instead of just starting at the top.

Which out-of-state driver’s licenses are no longer valid in Florida?
As of July 1, these out-of-state licenses are no longer valid in Florida if the driver is in the U.S. illegally.
How is DeSantis/Florida defining when a person is in the US illegally? Just by skin color?

If you ask for "tea" at a restaurant, what happens and where do you live?
I'm in Georgia and if you ask for tea you usually get asked "sweet or unsweet".

Same with me. I've removed all the apps from my phone and I've moved to Lemmy for all my doom scrolling.

Do you think that in the future, body-cameras on people will become as common as dash-cameras on cars?
I sure hope so. I just want to be able to prove to my wife she said that hamburgers were fine for dinner when she argues she never said that.

Running Apple iTunes on a container
I don't think it's possible. iTunes requires a full OS install, so you'll have to just run it on a VM. And Apple has things locked down so much that the only way to do full iPhone/iPad backups is through iTunes.

Is there a business in your town, which you are 100% sure is a front?
Reply in thread
There's a rim sale and limo rental place across the street from me that I'm sure is a front. The only people I ever see there are the owners and they always just have a few limos parked in front.

Soap is not required to clean anything. It’s great at removing oils and stains, but just plain water can clean your asshole just fine.

[Help] New self-hosted instance not crawling communities
You don't get federated automatically. On your own instance you will only see posts in communities that you subscribe to. What I did was set up a "bot" user that I used to subscribe to a bunch of communities that I might find interesting when just browsing the All feed but I didn't want in my personal Subscribed feed. There's a few tools that will automatically subscribe a bot user on your instance to all the top communities but I found just manually going through https://lemmyverse.net/communities and clicking subscribe as that bot user worked for me.
