They're so spacious

“She is just giving me a ride to/from work" was often the excuse if people saw ust together but honestly no one cared. The fact she WASN'T a teacher made it no big deal.

They're so spacious

Had a girlfriend when I was in highschool who was too old for me, had an old Chevy Blazer and loved the Cake song Stickshifts and Safetybelts. Everything about her was fun on a bench seat.

🤔 Interesting

Sort of. Unless you go to a private university taxes go to the public schools to fun facilities and wages for the educators. While you may pay tuition, the overall cost of that education and the services needed for one to do research doesn't come wholely out of your pocket.

Now I agree you should be compensated more, as someone who tried to get published academically and has filed patents I can see why there is a split of compensation.

You need to be in the ER to get the vibes right

we just picked up a new intern this month. they did ok in the interview but it was mostly that their dad works with us that they got a job this summer. this week while we were waiting for a meeting to start one of the other devs asked him about the tools he typicaly uses.

he started talking about these vibe coding IDEs and i had to look them up. WTF! but now it is all making sense. who goes to a 4 year uni getting a cs degree and can't navigate a terminal? this is going to be a long summer.

foss nerds stop being condescending to those who don't know the same things you do challenge (impossible)

The other day my wife was talking about her new job and having to take notes. For the past 30 years I've been keeping notes in text, then markdown in vim, starting with personal scripts, then vimwiki. A coworker showed me Obsidian, which while not FLOSS, does use an open standard for all its files. It pretty much does what my setup does.

Then it dawned on me that my wife and other non-techies just use whatever their computer has on it by default (i.e. OneNote). She never thought to go out and look for better productivity software. The idea that there is tons of better apps out there doesn't register. She has a phone, knows about the app store and gets tons of stuff there but as for her desktop or laptop the idea of apps outside of MS Office and the video games she plays is lost on her.

You know what they called people who opposed rounding up jews, gypsies, and the disabled to be disposed of but still backed the party? They were called Nazis because that's what they were.

You don't get an award for staying in a party of hate. Defect and take an actual stand instead of using this as a PR boost.

DOJ Redacted Names of ‘Politically Exposed Individuals’ in Epstein Files: Report

This is such a crazy timeline. Everyone knows our president is an ephebophile (pedo into teens). He has flat out stated it. No one is unaware of this fact anymore.

And yet we live in a system where good people are being deported or tortured in prison camps. We can't have government that actually works because our laws are so fucked up that good people get hurt while we all know a pedo rapist is running the country.

Department of What?

We've now hit the point in the timeline where these morons thought maybe if we change the name back no one will think it was us.

"What? No, we are the Department of DEFENSE. That whole thing going on in the Middle East was caused by the Department of War. That's not us."

‘Your phone is about to stop being yours': anger brewing among Android fans as major Google app change draws near

I currently run GraphineOS. I will probably buy one more refurb phone that can run it until Android is dead. Then I am switching to a dumb phone for calls and SMS, and a mobile hotspot connected to a pocket sized cyberdeck. I can still run the apps I want and no longer need Android. With a 3d printer, 25 years of being an electrical and software engineer I can easily make a device that does what I actually want.

Is this practical for the average person? Of course not. But this whole problem is something the average person can fix. STOP BUYING SHIT FROM COMPANIES WHO SCREW YOU!!! Use your power as a consumer and stop giving them money. Make them feel the pain of doing anti-consumer actions. None of this stuff is a requirement for life. If they see a hit in sales, if everyone who makes apps pulls them from the app store, they will change. But it requires everyone to act, and we damn well know most of yall will do nothing but complain.

This problem is a foot gun where we are all buying the gun, loading it, handing it to someone while sticking our foot out and we want to blame them for the bloody hole. Stop it!

*Permanently Deleted*

Aside from the pandemic showing that half the planet are selfish assholes, I actualy miss being social. Thinking back on my childhood in the 80's and 90's my family could afford to be social. Going out to dinner with other couples, going to events, purchasing the nesessary items to be social like golf clubs, boats, grills, etc. There wasn't this constant anxiety of living paycheck to paycheck as today. I make more than my parents combined and yet after cost of surviving i am sitting on $5 for two weeks as my expendable cash. At that point I have no desire to go out with people as even the gas to get to them would need to be budgeted.

With money being tight I have found that i was always bowing down to work for fear of being replaced. I worked longer hours than I should have because I've always been trying to catch up financialy. Now that I'm in my 40's I've just accepted that I will never have that moment where I reach that plateau and I can take a breath. I will spend the rest of my life tredding water just keeping my head above it. And I wish it was the avocado toast argument boomers give but there is no personal expenses in my life. mortgage (ik I'm lucky), food, utilities, school loans, clothes for the kids and that it. My entertainment comes from the library or is pirated.

After having this daily stressor constantly pinging in my head I just don't have the mental capacity to deal with people. My partner is more stess than benefit. There really isn't any human interaction I have that is fulfilling anymore. I'm honesty just running on autopilot at this point.
