Technically Correct

According to the story I heard as to the origin of the "no liquids over X amount" rule, years ago there was a terrorist that tried to smuggle hydrogen peroxide and acetone - which can be used to rather easily synthesize triacetone triperoxide (TATP, a highly sensitive explosive) - onto a plane in plastic toiletry bottles. They got caught and foiled somehow, and then the TSA started restricting liquids on planes. This was in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, if I recall correctly.

And I happen to know, from a reliable source, of someone who accidentally made TATP in a rotary evaporator in an academic lab. So it seems plausible.

Not that the rule is actually effective prevention against similar attacks, nor that the TSA even knows what the reason is behind what they do at this point, haha. I just thought it was an interesting story.

Spain, Ireland and China to join more than 20 states to declare ‘concrete measures’ against Israel

What can we realistically expect from this group?

It would be great if they could at least sanction Israel and the US in addition to what some of these states are already doing unilaterally, but short of blocking any further shipping of arms (many of these countries are positioned on or near key straits in the region, I guess) what else can they do other than direct conflict or more performative decrees from the same neoliberal-dominated institutions that are currently failing us?

This article is so heartbreaking, but people should definitely read it. I am not very well-informed on what the Nakba involved, so this was eye-opening. Like wtf, it's as if the Zionists just took the genocidal baton from the Nazis and said 'thank you, we got it from here'. I appreciate you linking it, as much as it hurt to read.

Don't let fake leftists in!

Fuck the ACP, especially their leadership (I use that term loosely). They practice tailism at best, but their clear connections with the esoteric fascism of LaRouche and Dugin, and personal connections to Gabbard (through that loser Hinkle), makes me think they're more like what this image shows - fascist infiltrators that are grifting their way into prominence and fooling well-meaning people into funding and legitimizing their petit-bourgeois bullshit.

Not to mention their dismissal of queer and women's liberation - which are fundamental to any real socialist movement - and their admiration for US 'revolutionary' history (specifically 1776 and the 1950s) with no regard for the survivors of the settler-colony's genocide, slavery, and oppression, all which illuminate just how empty and meaningless their socialist aesthetics really are. These clowns and their ideas can't disappear fast enough.

Exactly. I don't understand why so many people have this mentality of 'the fediverse must grow, or it's a failure', but I think a lot of them are from the recent reddit exodus (I am too, for the record) and are addicted to the firehose of content that a massive social media platform brings.

I participated less and less on reddit in recent years, after joining in 2007, partly because it became such a behemoth. Nowadays, I am enjoying the modest size of my lemmy instance and the values I've seen espoused throughout. It's like a small(er) get together of like-minded people rather than an open-door rager - the first has always had more appeal to me, personally.

"We will do everything in our power" = watch out, we each have a 'vote' and aren't afraid to use it!

Lmao, all these electoralist jokers are cooked. What a weak ass letter. Their votes never meant shit (and it sure as hell didn't make any Dems or Repubs less genocidal), not when this whole imperial project is run by corporations and the MIC, yet they still can't seem to think outside the ballot box.
