Marshmallow Test

This study is actually kind of sad, because upon further reflection on the data, it was found that the kids with "poor impulse control" were actually less likely to trust authority figures because they had experienced so many letdowns or broken promises from adult role models in their lives. Kids with happy home lives who were used to getting treats were way more likely to wait for the second marshmallow, whereas kids who had been consistently lied to or had never been given spontaneous treats by their caretakers were more likely to just take what was right in front of them.

Is Lemmy becoming too ideologically homogeneous? Thoughts on political diversity in the Fediverse.

I think the idea that all viewpoints are equally valuable and need to be given equal weight or volume in discussions is incredibly fallacious. Left wing ideals are backed by a multitude of research as well as ethical and moral philosophies. I don't know how you could be a leftist and say "what this place really needs is more right-wing voices" with a straight face. The whole "im just asking questions, everyone deserves to be heard, i just want to hear both sides of the argument" is a common tactic the right uses to try to seem reasonable and propagandize more people. Some ideas aren't worth hearing out and can only do damage to those who listen.

I hope she found herself

I mean if i was just chilling in the woods having a good time and a group of people came along and were like 'theres a dude missing in the woods, we're super worried about him, help us look' id probably join them too. Seems like more of a failure by whoever called the search party. Of course that would never happen to me because I'd never tell anyone where im going and nobody would miss me.

Woke Wars

Right wing star wars fans probably love the empire and wish they were darth vader. Just because they like a piece of media doesn't mean that theyre interpreting it the way it was intended or the same way you are.

still they don't get moderated

This has been proven wrong time and time again. People dont want to casually interact with nazis and hate-mongers so it drives away any reasonable people, leaving only the despicable views. Look how quickly twitter turned into a cesspool. Look at 4chan, which was always awful but has only gotten moreso over the years. Show me one place with low moderation that isn't completely overrun with nazis and other scum, and that still has a thriving community of regular, tolerant people.

Trump Officials Blame Mistake for Setting Off Confrontation With Harvard

Holy fuck "viewpoint diversity" reads like the most dystopian thing I've ever seen. Basically boils down to 'you must also teach right wing beliefs even when they are near unanimously rejected by the scientific community'. If im reading that right it would mean they'd essentially have to have flat earth classes in the geography department alongside all the regular classes, and give them equal resources. Plus who knows what other bullshit. How do you draw a line when you're mandating thar schools teach fiction based on what your followers believe?
