We just surpassed Beehaw in total users putting us at the second most populated instance.
My thought is: It's more useful to think of total Lemmy users, since it's all compatible and mostly federated.

It's not necessary to repeat the hate speech they got defederated over, you can just say "transphobic/homophobic slurs".

If anyone was too old (or young) to remember these, they were sold from 2000 to 06.

[Update: Failed again] Update to 0.18.1-rc.1 tried and rolled back
Dang, I updated Jerboa too hastily, time to figure out how to downgrade back to 0.34

Took a peek on Reddit, it really boggles my mind how oblivious and obedient people are.

What kind of firewall blocks lemmy but not reddit?

What are y'all's all time favourite game OSTs?
The original quake soundtrack is great if "sound textures by Nine Inch Nails" interests you. Adding on to that, try the soundtracks for fan-made quake campaigns like Arcane Dimensions and Dwell.

Yep, I was able to use F-Droid to download and install the older version (either using official F-Droid app or Aurora Droid), it's just not something I've had to do often.

Yes, there's a difference between use and mention, but slurs are still slurs even outside of a negative context or without hateful intent.
Repeating slurs isn't always necessary and can sometimes still be emotionally draining for the targetted group to see even outside of the negative context. Just something to keep in mind.

Quake Monster Comparison Remaster vs Original
I really enjoy all of the remastered monsters and weapons (the Perforator/supernailgun specifically really benefits from the touch up) except the Shambler. Not that the remastered Shambler is bad, it's good! But I prefer the original model.

The 0.34 crashes on startup... Unless I put it in airplane mode to navigate to the login page, then it works fine. 0.35 doesn't crash on startup, but will not let you log into Lemmy.world. Rough growing pains.

Get the Quake Injector to easily download, manage and play custom maps and mods
Does everyone already know all this? Just feels like a Quake comm should start with/include the basics.
I don't know, just trying to get this going.

In addition to the maps that come with the mod, I'm excited to see what other mappers can do with these movement abilities! It's very cool.

should you subscribe to high-volume RSS feeds?
In most RSS readers you can put feeds into folders, I sort my high velocity feeds into one folder, and low velocity feeds either in another folder so they don't get lost.
That way I don't feel the need for a interleaving algorithm or to avoid subscribing to high volume sites, but the beauty of RSS is that you can decide for yourself what approach is best.

git merge --abort
or, after it's been done, the nuclear option is to git reflog, find the state before your did the merge, and git reset HEAD@{4} or whatever HEAD@{#} it is.

Huh, my "hot" feed showed me a 2 year old post. I guess there's still a lot of work to do on Lemmy and Lemmy apps.
